Bling says check out my new digs in a VIDEO!!

Written by Bling and Ling's foster mom

Check out my new digs in the video! It is BIG and it is CLEAN and it has TOYS! If Col. Potters wouldn't have rescued my mom Ling and me, I would have been born in a dirty cramped wire cage, exposed to cold, rain and maybe even snow.

I hear there is even matchmakers who will find us the perfect home. I hope my home has lots of toys and maybe a playmate. Thank You Col. Potters People for saving us!

Luv,
Bling

$15.00 Donation / 1500 Tickets available / 1 in 10 chances of winning gift
Check out all the Cool Prizes

Did you ever wonder how Col. Potter has the resources to support its mission of rescuing cairns and providing veterinary and foster care? One of its' fundraisers with proven success has been the New Leash on Life Fundraiser. This one has gotten off to a slow start and we hope that you can find it in your heart (and wallet) to purchase a square for $15.00 - the odds are good. You can give a square to a loved one or in honor of a beloved pet or foster. Please follow the link below to see the fabulous prizes - there is even a roomba!

Storms come in many forms - hurricanes, rain, snow - and financial. They hit different areas of the country at different times, and with differing severity. The little cairns we take in are survivors of so many hard times - living year in and year out in a puppy mill - only the strong survive. This years financial storms have impacted CPCRN and its ability to assist cairns, but we have still managed to have surpassed the 'magic' number of 2000 Cairns saved since our inception. This has been thanks to all of our volunteers, adoptive families and everyone who has cared enough to donate to us.

This New Leash has our usual wide range of gifts, Cairn Terrier related items and more. Besides the fun you are about to have participating in this much anticipated event, you will have the chance to win something really special, as well as helping us help these spunky little dogs. How would you like to spend a week in Hawaii? Or get a VISA GIFT CARD – or any of the OTHER five gift cards? Or a Canon Camera? A new monitor? In the need for a quilt?– we have several beautiful ones waiting for you! Maybe a hand crafted dog bed?We also have a lot of Christmas items!!! There is a wide range for all interests.

Pledge NOW!!!

Your contributions to A New Leash on Life are what gives these dogs a chance at a better life. There are more waiting at the door!

Bling is 24 Days Old - See his new pictures!

Written by Bling's foster Mom

Here is a little photo op of Bling. He is getting around quite well now and will give little kisses. He doesn't play much with no siblings, but we are trying to stimulate him until he is old enough to leave the whelp room and watch the resident dogs interact and play. Foster dad played with him a little tonight and even got a tough boy grrrr:)

Welcome Paisley and Reddy-Kin to CP!

Written by a CP Intakes Team Coordinator

We know that in a perfect world if any cairn finds a home that it would be forever. But, in the world we live in, life takes many twists, turns and changes that are sometimes beyond anyone's control.

For these two life has not been that one perfect home, but thanks to Col. Potter life is looking much better these days!

Paisley, 20 month old wheaten female

Reddy-Kin, 3 year old red wheaten male

We know it won't be long before they find a new forever home! Thanks to everyone that helped bring them into the loving arms of CP!

Update on Cotton -Thank you Guardian Angels!

Written by Cotton's Foster Mom

Cotton is continuing to mend from the surgery to repair her spay and two inguinal hernias. All of her staples were removed last Saturday, but in the area where the hernia was located on the right side, a pocket of fluid has formed between her skin and the muscle wall. This pocket of fluid was of major concern to me, so a week ago yesterday (Monday), I took her back to the surgeon and he removed a cup of fluid from the pocket of skin and sent it off to pathology to make sure there was no infection (and there wasn't). By Wednesday, the pocket had filled up again so I took her back. This time he didn't do anything, but because I was going to be going back on Saturday to have her staples removed, we decided we would wait until then to see if something more should be done. This pocket of fluid was so large that it filled my whole hand with my fingers outstretched. Didn't bother Cotton--she even lay down on it (makes me shiver just to think about it).

On Saturday, after removing the staples, the surgeon removed almost another cup of fluid from that pocket. He says in time it will shrink when the skin re-attaches to the muscle wall. He recommended maybe using an Ace bandage to help hold it closer to her little tummy and not let it dangle and swing when she walks. I just have to figure out how to "rig" the bandage between her legs and around her tail.

Everything else is good with her--eating, pottying, playing. I would say she is pretty much housebroken, but she hasn't had much movement throughout the house because the surgeon wants her to stay relatively quiet which means she is basically confined to her x-pen. She is and continues to be sweet, gentle and loving. And I discovered a bonus--she and my new furkid, Maggie (CP-Magenta) get along wonderfully so they are being fed and let outside at the same time, separate from my other furkids.

I personally would like to thank all of you who have so generously become one of Cotton's Guardian Angels. She deserves this chance and each one of you has helped her along the road to her forever. Cotton and I (plus the rest of my herd) would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

LET'S GIVE THANKS FOR CP'S THANKSGIVING FEAST!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

How many of you have family and friends that just don't understand why you volunteer with a rescue group ... and then a dog rescue group on top of it? There's no salary, it takes away from your personal and family time, you're always being asked to help with something and donate for something ... I know I have many family and friends who think I'm a crazy dog lady ... and you know what ... I'm just fine with that! I believe there is no better gift than to give of your time and your talents to something you love and believe in. I'm one of those people who would generally prefer to spend time with dogs than with many people ... and I can't think of a better way to give and to help than rescuing Cairn Terriers and in the process have found some of my best and closest friends right here at Col. Potter.

Tomorrow, when I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, one of the things I am most thankful for is Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network. When you think about what this group of 100% volunteers has been able to accomplish and the difference we have been able to make in the lives of more than 2500 Cairns in a relatively short period of time, it is truly remarkable! And I know those 2500+ Cairns are very thankful there was a Col. Potter Cairn Rescue to give them a second chance at a happily ever after.

Last weekend, three more little Cairns joined the CP family, three more little Cairns I am thankful I was able to be a small part of helping to freedom and knowing they will now have a wonderful future of love and care. Tomorrow, I will be thinking about CP's Thanksgiving Feast and not only the difference I have been able to make on their lives, but what a difference they and all the others have made on mine:

Drumstick: Male, wheaten, DOB 5/28/05, 17.8#

Dressing: Female, wheaten, DOB 3/14/01, 12/1#

Yams: Female, wheaten, DOB 10/29/07, 14#

Please help me welcome CP's Thanksgiving Feast and remember to give thanks tomorrow for all that we have. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Wacky Wednesday!

Wednesday is the day to be WACKY! Each week we will showcase a terrierific cairn picture with an appropriate caption. If you have a terrierific cairn and would like us to consider YOUR picture and caption for an upcoming "Wacky Wednesday" send it to us at cpcrnblog@gmail.com! (All photo submissions become the property of CPCRN and may be used for fundraising, promotion and/or outreach purposes.)

A big shout out to Angel for being the Wacky Wednesday model this week! Angel remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence and the cookies are ALWAYS close to home! :)

Silk has 3 puppies and we have a photo!

Written by a CP Media Team volunteer

Silk had her puppies early this morning!

In keeping with the fabrics theme, they are named Corduroy (male, 8.5oz), Spandex (female, 7.5oz) and Pique (male, 7oz).

Very sadly, after more than a half hour of trying to bring Silk's fourth and last baby into the world, the little soul of 8 plus ounces was unable to make it.

The birth was hard, due to the nice size the puppies all are, and being the last puppy we are sure that Silk was fatigued as well. Foster mom and dad really worked to save this precious baby.

We are thankful for the birth of these three puppies and sad for the loss of their sibling. Thank you to Silk's foster parents and to everyone who has supported the efforts of CP and Silk's journey to rescue and motherhood. Please welcome these three little ones into the Col. Potter family and say a little prayer for the puppy that didn't make it.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT...IF OUR DOGS COULD TALK

Contributed by a CP Volunteer

I don't know alot about the cartoonist Patrick McDonnell but he is truly an advocate of rescue and from time-to-time his comic strip Mutts focuses on the plight of shelter animals . . . thought I'd share his one . . we can all relate to it. -

Note from CP: Many of our dogs come from situations where they have received little care or affection. They go to foster homes where they are assessed and provided with the opportunity to become a companion animal in a comfortable home. This cartoon should make us all pause.

Urgent Notice: Potential Danger of Dog Hair - Comic Relief

In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amobacter caninii" has been linked with the following symptoms in females: Reluctance to cook, clean or do housework, a reluctance to wear make-up, good clothes or high heels heels. Reluctance to spend money on home or car repairs until after 'Baby' has new collars, leashes, beds, treats, food, blankets or toys.

"Amobacter caninii" usually results in long hours away from home and exhaustion which may lead to a loss of physical contact with other humans (especially husbands and boyfriends). "Amobacter caninii" is thought to be addictive, driving the need for additional sources - this may lead to a "pack mentality" or like the potato chip commercial, "you can't have just one". Beware! If you come in contact with a female human infected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours. We have even heard from a self professed "cairnaholic"

Surgeon General's Warning: Dogs are expensive, addictive, and may impair the ability to use common sense.

FINALLY - MORE PICTURES OF JOIE'S PUPPIES!!

Written by Joie and her puppies' foster mom

Sorry this has taken so long folks. I've been struggling uphill all week, trying to catch up for losing one whole night's sleep Sunday night. It made this work week a bear. BUT.............here are some pictures of the puppies, from Mirth's birth up until tonight. Mirth looks like he might be a red. His daddy was, so it's in his genes (I didn't see his grandparents, so I can't really be sure.) Jocularity has very striking markings. Glee, our little girl, is the biggest and calmest of the three.

I hope you enjoy seeing how much they've grown!

Friday's Feature

Written by a CP Media Volunteer

How could something that requires a person to dedicate a significant amount of their own time, effort, emotions, and even money, be so rewarding?

Col. Potter Volunteers have signs around their necks, marking them as pushovers for any outstretched Cairn paw that needs a helping hand. Many times, the volunteers experience more vexing moments than potentially getting peed-on, but they continue to come back for more. The volunteer can find it reaffirming, as if going that extra distance might show the confused, and in the beginning, "manners-challenged" Cairn that they still have a buddy standing by them, even if they aren’t showing their best side, at the moment.

The volunteer might also be demonstrating to themselves that their commitment goes beyond ear scritches, tummy rubs, and the easy joy of watching a happy Cairn at play. Hanging in there with a new furry acquaintance, who may smell badly, have serious and evident health and hygiene issues, in addition to being scared and defensive, is a true test of commitment. It will require that a sense of the future be present from the very beginning. One must also know that there is an organization behind the volunteer, which knows how to deal with those various hardships and illnesses. An organization which will enable the volunteer to promise the Cairn, life is going to get better; he won’t just be getting a change of scenery, but will also get a completely different life.

When I found Col. Potter, I was exploring the concept of rescue in general, with the idea that I would find a source for a Cairn in the future. I had no idea such small, sweet-natured dogs could have so many things go wrong with their health, or that they could endure so much abuse, and still maintain a core of hope and gentleness, in which many humans would do well to take note. My fondness for the breed grew stronger, as I realized at what length, a large group of very diverse, talented, and dedicated people would go, in order to salvage broken, but not wrecked, Cairn lives.

Volunteering for Col. Potter may open one up to the possibility of being exposed to things that can strain the senses and test one’s emotions. However, once the time of testing passes, what will remain, is a clean, bright-eyed, and loyal friend. A friend who might spend the rest of his life adjusting to freedom, but will know, that because someone accepted him for who he was, he won’t have to go back to his former life ever again!

Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network is in need of volunteers in all areas of the organization. If you interested in helping, we would love to talk to you! You don't have to have "mad skills", just a mad love for cairns! :)

Email our Director of Volunteerism by clicking here, or fill out the volunteer information form by clicking here.

If you are unable to volunteer but you would still like to help change the world, one dog at a time, contribute to rescue by clicking here.

DID YOU KNOW THAT CP TAKES CHARGE CARDS????? YUP WE DO! AND MORE

Written by Danielle Rackstraw, Founder of CPCRN

Good morning everyone: I just wanted to drop a note to remind you all that Col. Potter accepts CHARGE CARDS. We have for quite a while, but it's amazing the folks who don't know this. For any donation to CP, adoption, Mall purchase, fundraiser, etc., you can pay through PayPal, by personal check or by clicking on the PayPal button, you can also pay with any of the larger type credit cards [Visa, American Express, Master Cards, Discover Card, etc.] and do your own payment planning at home. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO JOIN PAYPAL in order to use our SECURE SERVER and PayPal is the safest in the Nation for purchases.

This is a HUGE advantage with the holidays coming up. Our calendars are selling fast [over 750 sold], and our ANLOL (A New Leash on Life) with 150 fantastic prizes is going on now . . . with a HUGE chance on winning. We are only offering 1500 squares/chances and we have 150 GIFTS. The ratio of winning will not change, all 150 gifts will be given. SOME ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and very pricey items for humans and fur kids alike. So go to our web site at CairnRescue.com, and click onto the FLASHING ICON for A NEW LEASH ON LIFE and then the Calendar icon. We have some great deals going also on the calendar. BUY 2 get free PRIORITY mail.

Order in the next day or so and you will most likely have these for thanksgiving as a special gift. We really truly appreciate your love and care in helping CP to help more Cairn kids. We have over 130 dogs in foster care now, with a pregnant baby due to whelp [after our 3 babies born on Monday] with many more that are in desperate need of help that we have already committed for. One ANLOL square is $15.00 which feeds one of our fur kids for a month. What a great gift to give them. Thank you.

NOW TAKING CP CENTER STAGE -- ROCKTOBER STARS 3

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

The lights are dimmed and the curtain rises ... the audience starts applauding and screaming with excitement at the sight of the performers on stage!!! The music comes to life and the party begins!

OK, we all have our own personal favorite Rock Stars, those that you would pay more than you should to see perform, those that, well, get your pulse racing and you fantasize about. Well, this is just a warning that the Rocktober Stars III that I am about to introduce are X RATED for EXTRA CUTE, CUTE and more CUTE!!!

Let's give a rousing CP welcome to the Rocktober Stars III:

Madonna: Female, DOB 5/3/08, wheaten brindle

BeeGees: Male, DOB 8/5/09, gray brindle

Wings: Male, DOB 8/19/09, dark brindle

GoGos: Female, DOB 8/19/09, dark brindle

Santana: Male, DOB 6/20/09, blond

Styx: Male, DOB 7/21/09, cream

These Rocktober Stars III are all currently performing in the Atlanta area, awaiting the destination of their home performance. Madonna in particular is in need of a stage to perform on in a foster home. She would prefer to travel to her home performance via ground transport, so if you have a home stage in the southeast and have room for Madonna to perform live on your stage, please apply to foster.

My thanks to the behind the scenes stage crew who helped to make this performance possible for the Rocktober Stars III. One more round of applause for the stage crew and the Rocktober Stars III please!!!
