New Pictures and updates on Joie's puppies

Written by Joie's foster mom

You asked for it!

Here's the news on Joie's puppies.

Glee has found a forever home in Minnesota. Her mama and daddy will be coming down to pick her up sometime the middle of February. We're still talking to adoptive homes for Jocularity and Mirth.

Everybody has their ears up. They are pooping and piddling on the piddle pad (mostly). Glee has had a couple of nights in the crate where she has been clean AND dry in the morning. The boys are clean, but not dry yet.

Everybody has a hearty appetite and runs and plays. Joc does as much up and down when he runs as he does going forward. We call him Abercrombie because he looks like he should be modeling Abercrombie and Fitch clothes. Mirth is quiet, independent, but comes up for snuggles frequently. And Glee just wants to be held and get all the attention.

Joie was spayed and had her dental last Monday. She did well. She didn't lose any teeth, although the vet said she was already missing several and the ones that are left are worn down a lot. She's only 4 years old. She had kind of a rough time bouncing back from surgery. She slept a lot on Tuesday and wasn't her usual happy self. But she's feeling better everyday and is starting to trot around with a spring in her step again.

A warm welcome to Stoddie and Nanna!

Written by an Intakes volunteer.

Last week, two very lucky cairns joined the Col. Potter family.

Volunteers picked up these two and chose their new names. Chosen from one of the volunteer's Slovak heritage, their names are terms of endearment for the eldest relatives in the family--the men are called Stoddie and the women, Nanna.

Stoddie is a gorgeous red wheaten boy estimated to be 3-4 years old.

Nanna

Nanna is a black brindle petite girl of around 7 years

Both kids are having their spa treatments and will move to their foster homes this weekend.

Welcome Stoddie and Nanna!

Welcome Aponi to the CP family!

Written by an Intakes volunteer

Aponi is a 3 year old female. "Aponi" means butterfly. This little one has skin problems, as you can see from her picture. One of the transport volunteers said she is beautiful and sweet - one that would be tempting to keep. However, the volunteer said that the skin issues are very noticeable.

Aponi is now with her foster mommy who is going to give her lots of tender loving care, get her skin feeling better and help her grow a beautiful coat. This one will be ready for her own family very soon.

While our little Aponi might not yet be a beautiful butterfly, we know that with lots of love and care she will be soon. Please give Aponi a big warm welcome to the Col. Potter family!

Missing 3-legged Cairn in Twin Cities - and it's COLD

From Kare11.com

Can you help find Fiona?

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- She has survived more trauma than any dog has a right to, but now the owner of a tough, big hearted Cairn terrier is worried that Fiona might not come home.

Fiona has just three legs after being run over by a city bus two years ago. She went missing earlier this week after slipping out the door behind her owner's roommate, and accidentally getting locked outside the gate of her home in the Hamline-Midway area of St. Paul.

Fiona was seen crossing Minnehaha Avenue at 2:30PM Wednesday. Authorities have been notified, neighbors contacted, and Wednesday night a team of volunteers went door to door informing residents and posting flyers.

Owner Pam Hoff says Fiona isn't just special to her, but also to boys who need a steady, loving presence in their lives. Hoff teaches at the Boys Totem Town correctional facility, and takes Fiona there every day. With good behavior and effort, young inmates earn the right to take Fiona on walks, and spend time with her. She has become an important piece in the rehabilitation of many young men.

The little Cairn is unquestionably a tough little character: besides being run over by the bus, Fiona has also survived severe injuries suffered in an attack by a neighborhood dog. Although she appears active, it is unlikely Fiona could survive in someone else's care as she has special, specific medical needs.

If you see Fiona the three legged dog, email her owner Pam Hoff (indiapamela@ yahoo.com, remove space), or log on to the Animal Humane Society website.

LET'S WELCOME GILBERT TO CP!!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Gilbert is a cute little brindle boy who is two and a half years old. He was saved when he was just a puppy from a farmer's bullet. But the family that saved him never intended to keep him. Rather, their hope was to find him a perfect forever home. Well, that was two years ago.

They gave it their best effort, but felt they could not find the right family for him. They decided to contact CP to see if we could help and here he is! He just arrived to his new foster home this afternoon and his new Foster Dad says he is a super friendly and curious little fella checking his new pad out. Welcome to CP, little Gilbert boy!

Wacky Wednesday!

Wednesday is the day to be WACKY! Each week we will showcase a terrierific cairn picture with an appropriate caption. If you have a terrierific cairn and would like us to consider YOUR picture and caption for an upcoming "Wacky Wednesday" send it to us at cpcrnblog@gmail.com! A big shout out to Mari and Abilene for being the Wacky Wednesday models this week! For some reason I'm thinking you might not be the only one hoping you get your pillow back, and the SOONER the BETTER! :)

Oh my! A different 'rescued' Cairn, Holly

Rescue drama as Holly goes barking up the wrong tree

Published Date:
23 January 2010 in Scotsman News (Scotland)

By CATHERINE SALMOND

An afternoon walk in the woods nearly ended in disaster for one dog when she plummeted 50ft down an embankment, sparking a three-hour rescue operation involving specialist firefighters. Crews said Holly the Cairn Terrier escaped death by only a whisker, landing on a ledge on Corstorphine Hill which stopped her falling 90ft to the ground. Gordon Fisher, group manager with Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The dog should have her name changed to Lucky."

The dramatic rescue was sparked when dog walker Fiona Hay, dialed 999 after Holly, her friend's pet fell at about 12:40pm yesterday. Ms Hay, of Parkgrove Terrace, had taken the one-year-old dog for a walk as a regular favour for Joanne Burrell, who lives in Castle Avenue. She also had Ms Burrell's other dog Winnie, a one-year-old Jack Russell cross, and her own pet Tilly, three, a Beagle, with her. But when the dogs ran off to explore, and Holly failed to return, Ms Hay became anxious, spending half an hour looking for the white terrier among the woods. She said: "I phoned another friend who came straight away - I went one way and she went the other to try to find Holly."I thought perhaps she had lost her footing and then I heard a noise and looked up and she was on a rocky ledge."

Crews from Tollcross and Sighthill rushed to the scene and firefighter Ian Porteous abseiled down to the dog, which was crying loudly on the ledge. Ms Hay said: "When she saw the fireman she tried to reach him, she really wanted to get down." Mr Porteous tucked Holly in a rucksack and made his way down the drop to reunite her with her walker just before 4pm. Ms Burrell, said: "When Fiona called I couldn't believe it all the talk of the fire brigade and rescue teams. I just got there straight away. I knew they had been away for a long time, but thought perhaps Fiona had taken them somewhere exciting for the afternoon."

Holly was unscathed by her adventure and Ms Hay added: "I cannot thank the fire crews enough. They were wonderful."

Welcome "JAYDEN" To The CP Family!

Written by a CP Intakes Team Coordinator

Jayden is a 5 year old cairn whose world as he has known it was turned upside down. Like many families these days the economy has made them make changes that they would never have thought they would have to and their pets are suffering too. CP was able to say yes to helping find Jayden a new home.

This guy has been left alone so much that he is suffering some big time separation anxiety, whenever he can't see his human and is a big time barker. The foster mom is hoping this will change quickly!! He just needs a family that can give him the love and attention he needs so, matchmakers do your magic as you do for all CP cairns and make that happen. Give a big warm welcome to Jayden!!

For those many foster homes who stepped up to help this group as well as JB, Ranger, Onyx and Hematite, please know that JB, Ranger, Onyx and Hematite have found foster homes.

I'm currently working with several adoptive homes who have applied to become foster homes with the hope one of these pups will become a permanent member of their family. Once I have those sorted, then I will start working on foster homes for the other Card Game Kids. Thank YOU for stepping up to help these furkids and I'll be in touch with those foster homes who are a fit for one of the Card Game Kids.

So, anyone ready to play with the Card Game Kids? Just give them a little time and they'll show you what they can do with their GET OUT OF JAIL FREE card! Welcome babies ... you've just won the biggest card game for the rest of your lives!
