Miss Wright can do no Wrong!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Wright, a 2 year old Wheaten Female

Let’s give a big CP Welcome to Miss Wright!

This little two year old girl is an owner surrender.  Her mom and dad's life style has been changed and they found they could no longer keep her.  They decided to contact Col. Potter to see if we could help, and we were happy that we could take her in.

Wright was named by Cindy M. in memory of Bonnie B's mother, thanks to our Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  Wright is known to be very friendly and sweet, and she gets along great with other dogs!  She is now at the vet having her spa treatments.

Please join us as we open our arms and give Miss Wright a great big warm and loving Welcome!

Ringing into the New Year…

Contributed by CP Foster Archibald

Hey!  Look at me!  Doesn’t my revitalized coat look great?

Warm greetings from Texas!

In case you don’t know, my name is Archibald, but you can call me “Arch” if you like!  I am hoping, maybe, you would like to call me “your own”?  At least think about it?

I am quite a good companion, now that Foster Mom has taught me a few things, and I am the most excellent house guest she has ever had, or so she says - Even better than the resident dogs!  I am friendly to everyone, I am courteous when playing with my Foster siblings, and I am cool and calm when everyone else is barking up a storm, chasing a squirrel or some other critter.  I am so quiet in the house, Foster Mom keeps my Christmas bell on my collar so she can find me!

I don’t bark so much anymore!  I wear a bell, I’m so quiet!

Surprised?  If you don’t remember, when I first came to Foster Mom, she just didn’t understand what I was trying to tell her, and she did not realize that I did not know how to read lips.  She thought I was just barking and barking!  But Foster Mom really studied me and realized that I could not hear her!  So I couldn’t hear her and she didn’t understand me – sounds like a lot of people, right?

Anyway, my Foster Mom was determined to resolve our communication problem and she started working with hand signals.  I see pretty darn well – and I am very smart – so this hand signing worked out very well!  It is quite simple, really, and I know signs for “Sit” “Down” “Shake” “Quiet” and “Cool it” and my Foster Mom can teach these signs to you very quickly – so we could communicate too!

I am very well mannered with my Foster sister!

“Cool it” is my special signal to not get excited about Foster Mom’s food.  I am very “food motivated” – which is great for training – but I have to be careful about what I eat so my beautiful coat stays lush.  Foster Mom has worked very hard to get rid of my skin problems and she tells me that I have to only eat the proper grain-free food to keep my coat and skin in good shape.   Of course, I would still love to eat Foster Mom’s food too, so “Cool it” comes in handy when I get excited and forget how miserable I was before Foster Mom straightened out my diet.  That’s really the only fault I can confess to, so I am sure you will be able to work this out with me as well!

Oh!  And I discovered you don’t need a lot of teeth to kill a squirrel!

O.K., Time for a quick nap…

I really am a great companion… and very cute!

I would love to be your only companion, getting all your attention, and maybe learning to be a Therapy Dog or something, but I am also perfectly fine with other siblings if you are truly the right person for me.   Fill out an Application for Adoption and tell me about yourself!

It might be a good sign!

Sincerely,
CP Foster Archibald aka “Arch”

Welcome Trisa, CP’s Newest Black Beauty!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Trisa, a 2-3 year old, 17 lb, Black Brindle Female

Please welcome CP's newest Black Brindle beauty!  Trisa is a very shy, 17 lb girl, one who has seen her share of litters before she was surrendered to a local rescue.

Unfortunately, after a number months, Trisa was not progressing.  CP was approached to help Trisa find her Cairnitude and we were happy that we could say “Yes!”  Trisa arrived at her foster home this past weekend and is settling in.

Welcome to the CP family, Trisa!

Stitch Strolls into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Stitch, 8 years old, Black Brindle Male

The CP family welcomed a sweet and very friendly Black Brindle boy this weekend. Stitch lived the entire 8 years of his life with a loving family.

This happy boy knows many tricks:  sit, sit pretty, lay, leave it, go potty, and the dreaded "bath".  During his life, Stitch has battled itchy skin and hair loss, and he has obediently, but reluctantly, endured many medicated baths.

Upon joining the CP family, Stitch was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. With medication and a good grain free diet, this little boy should soon find relief!

Welcome, Stitch!

Sapientia Wisely joins Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Sapientia, 7 year old Red Brindle Beauty

Well, here she is!  One beautiful Red Brindle girl, and "Sapientia" is her name!

"Sapientia" means “wisdom” and, at age 7, she has gained much wisdom.  This girl is said to be sweet and all Cairn, with the attitude of a true Cairn.  She spent a few days on one of our great Volunteers’ farm and loved every minute of it!  She is now in her foster home and settling in, and she will soon be ready for her new family.

Keep an eye out for Foster Mom's update on her:  She is excited to let everyone know more about this beautiful girl!

Welcome Sapientia!

My Mother's Girls Adopt Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Chrysler - Black Brindle Female, born in 2006

Palatine - Wheaten Female, born in 2006

It's been almost three months since my mother's passing, but I know that she is still with me and can feel her presence almost every day.  The first few days after her passing, she "haunted" me, obviously wanting to make sure that I followed her wishes to the letter for her funeral and burial.  She came to me in my dreams, I heard her voice during the day and things would move without explanation in the house.  Gradually these occurrences have lessened and now mostly I can feel her "love" in less intrusive ways which make me smile and think of her with wonderful memories.

One of the great things about Col. Potter is the friendships that develop.  I have to say that I am very lucky to be part of the Rescue/Intakes Team where many of us are much more than just friends, we are family and these relationships will last a lifetime.  Another great thing about Col. Potter is the Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  My wonderful Rescue/Intakes Team members donated in memory of my mother to name not one, but two Cairns.  Sunday, we were out shopping, and my mother came to me in the form of seeing something at the store that reminded me of my mom.  Little did I know that she was sending me a message that there were two little Cairn girls that needed CP's help to find their way to freedom and a new life.  And so, I would like to introduce My Mother's Girls...

#4365 Chrysler - F, Black Brindle, born in 2006
#4366 Palatine - F, Wheaten, born in 2006

My mom was very opinonated, especially as she got older and when she liked something, there was no changing her mind.  My parents bought their first Chrysler car in 1959 and never drove another brand of vehicle and so I chose Chrysler to represent the brand of car my mother loved and how she related her freedom to having her car and being able to drive.  After my mother could no longer live independently and we moved her to Wisconsin with us, she enjoyed her time in Wisconsin, but it was never home to her and she longed to one day go home.  My mother and father are both buried  where they called home, Palatine, IL and so I chose the name Palatine.  I hope this will make my mother happy that she has "her" car and can drive "home".  Freedom and a home are what these two little girls will now have.   I miss and love you mom, rest in peace ...

Chrysler and Palatine, welcome to the CP family!

Col. Potter Welcomes I Have A Dream!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Today is a National Holiday in the United States to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.  Probably more than anyone else, Dr. King is the everlasting symbol of the civil rights movement and his speech where he kept repeating "I have a dream" is undoubtedly one of the most famous speeches in history.  Martin Luther King's dream of equality became reality.

To steal Dr. Martin Luther King's words...  I Have A Dream where all Cairns will know freedom, love and care.  I Have A Dream where there will be no more abuse, neglect or cruelty when it comes to our canine friends.  I Have A Dream where there will no longer be animal overpopulation and kill shelters that have to deal with the issue in the only way they can -- euthanasia.  I Have A Dream where Col. Potter will no longer be necessary because there will be no homeless Cairns in need of Rescue.

Justice - Black Brindle Male
Pride - Wheaten Male
Equality - Wheaten Female
Opportunity - Wheaten Female
Promise - Wheaten Female

The Dream became reality for five Cairns this past Saturday.  Col. Potter, with the intake of this group, has now made freedom and a second opportunity reality for 3,500 Cairns since our inception!  It is with great pride that I introduce to you "I Have A Dream"

#5384 Justice - M, Black Brindle
#5385 Pride - M, Wheaten
#5386 Equality - F, Wheaten
#5387 Opportunity - F, Wheaten
#5388 Promise - F, Wheaten

May there be Equality for every little Cairn to have an Opportunity to enjoy the Promise of Justice for their abusers and take Pride in knowing they are part of the CP family ...

I Have A Dream...

An Uphill Run for CP’s Downhill Skiers!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Ingemar, 7 year old Black Brindle Male

Renate, 7 year old Wheaten Female

Vreni, 6 year old Black Brindle Female

The most successful downhill skier of all times is Ingemar Stenmark from Sweden who won 86 World Cup competitions and several gold medals in the Olympics.  Two of the top 5 female downhill skiers having the most World Cup wins are Vreni Schneider (SUI), with 55, and Renate Götschl (AUT), with 46.

Three gorgeous Cairns skied into CP's Rescue lodge, looking for a warm respite.  While they love the snow and cold, everyone needs a chance to warm up at night.

Please help us welcome CPs Skiers:

Ingemar - 7 year old Black Brindle boy with one drop ear
Renate - 7 year old Wheaten girl
Vreni - 6 year old Black Brindle girl

All three had their spa treatments and are heading to their foster homes this weekend. Safe travels for all!

Welcome, Skiers~

BooBoo Blizzard Blows into Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

BooBoo Blizzard, a 3 year old Brindle Boy

Our furkids are spoiled, pampered, dressed in sweaters and coats to go out and play in the snow; some even wear boots to keep their paws warm and dry.  When they've had enough snow, cold, and ice, they have a nice, warm home inviting them back inside where a treat probably awaits them.  Wouldn't that be nice if all furkids had such a life and didn't have to live out in the elements anymore?

One boy found just such a life today when he became a member of the CP family.  He will no longer have to endure long, cold Winters outside.  He has found the good life!

His name comes from our Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  It is very poignant and meaningful considering where this boy came from and the season...

Please help us give a warm CP welcome to #5287 BooBoo Blizzard, reported to be 3 years old.  His name is donated by Bobbie B. in memory of her son's family dog, Blizzard, who was found as a puppy, abandoned in a snow drift on the side of a country road in AR.  Luckily, Bobbie's son was there, restoring power after an ice storm, and brought him in from the cold.  He had been a much loved family member and was grand daughter Gracie's first dog.  When Gracie was little, she called him BooBoo.

Intakes has already brought in more furkids thus far in January than during the entire month of December.  Our once comfortable list of available Foster Homes has dwindled down to just a few remaining.  PLEASE consider becoming a Foster Home and helping a furkid like BooBoo Blizzard find a happily ever after.  If you are an approved Foster Home and have room for a foster currently, please let us know.

Welcome BooBoo Blizzard into the warmth of CP!

Cailleach Collaborates with Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Cailleach, a sweet, 9 year old, Black Brindle Female

Please give a warm Col. Potter greeting to Cailleach, a wise and witty elder from the highlands who has packed up kit and parcel to come over to join our CP clan.

This lovely 9 year-old Black Brindle girl is a big cuddlebug, weighing in at a trim 26 lbs (!).  Thing weren't working out very well for Cailleach at her home, so now she needs a new home to call her own.  With the super spa treatment and excellent and loving care she'll receive here with Col. Potter, she is sure to find that new Forever home very soon!

Welcome, Cailleach!
