Shaylee Looking for Love at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

CP Shaylee, a beautiful 9 year old Wheaten Female
Shaylee was found wondering down the street and was very lucky that a very nice lady picked her up.  The lady actually found Shaylee's owner, but the owner did not want her back…  The lady knew she could not keep Shaylee, so she contacted Col. Potter for help and we were able to take her in.

Shaylee is said to be 9 years old and she is very cute!  A very special thanks to Kim and Don S. for helping to get this little girl to safety.  Without these wonderful volunteers, who knows what would have happened?

Shaylee is looking for Forever Love!
Let's please give a warm welcome to Shaylee, who will be on her way to her Foster home today.

Welcome cutie to your new life!

Kelvin takes Comfort with Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Kelvin, a Handsome 9.5 year old Wheaten Male
Kelvin is a 9.5 year old, 19 lb. male Cairn, whose owners’ personal situation changed.  When it was proving very difficult to find a home to rent that accepted pets, Col. Potter was contacted, and Kelvin soon became CP’s newest furkid.

Kelvin gets excited during thunderstorms, is very affectionate, loyal, knows commands like “Sit”, “Come”, and “Sit up pretty”, he is housebroken, good with kids and other dogs, and is good riding in a vehicle.

Let’s all give Kelvin a warm CP welcome!  He is a handsome boy!

Roosevelt has been Rescued by Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Roosevelt, a handsome 2 year old Black Brindle Male
Every Cairn rescue is celebrated, but the rescues where a Cairn was in imminent danger are particularly rewarding.  Last week, Col. Potter found a Cairn that had completed his stray hold at a shelter and could become at risk of euthanasia the next morning. The sweet 2 year old, 16 lb. boy was at increased risk because he was very fearful in the shelter environment.

With the help of a wonderful shelter volunteer, CP was able to gather needed information and, within an hour, a down on his luck Cairn became a very lucky CP boy!  Roosevelt will now move to the safety and comfort of his Foster home after a spa week.

A very special thank you for Mary Ellen L. for donating the name Roosevelt through CP's Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  Mary Ellen donated the name Roosevelt in memory of a very special friend, John, who passed away in January 2013.  A veteran of WWII, John always complained Franklin Delano Roosevelt ruined the country by doing away with the gold standard.  In honor of John, the name Roosevelt was donated.

Welcome Roosevelt!

Inwood City Welcomes Baby Drina Riley!

Written by a CP Broderick aka The Mayor

Mayor Broderick tests the Baby-soft quilts and blankets

As Mayor of this fine city, it is my pleasure to announce that Baby Drina Riley, weighing in at 6 pounds and 8 ounces, was born by C section at about 6:00 a.m. this morning, the 26th of March.  After working long and hard to get out, her first words were, "Why was I put up in such a small room when it’s so big, and wonderful, and dry out here in this room?!!"

Mr. Old Coot was a mess.   “I stink, I didn’t sleep in 26 hours, I’m hungry, and I really need coffee!” he stated to the reporters present.  He did add that he and the Mrs. wanted to thank everyone at Col. Potter for all the many prayers and gifts.  "We know the prayers helped," he said.

As Mayor, I hereby proclaim this day to be a Special Holiday in Inwood City, henceforth and forever, to celebrate the birth of the Beautiful Baby Drina!

Ellabell & Teddi DonEllyn Begin Again!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Ellabell, a 16 lb. 8 year old Gray Brindle Female
Teddi DonEllyn, a 19+ lb. 4-5  year old Wheaten Male
Two weeks ago, Col. Potter Intakes received an email from a friend in rescue.  This rescue group works tirelessly to help Amish mill dogs find safety and a new life as beloved pets. We have worked with this group before, and quite a few of our CP Cairns have them to thank for making their way to us.

Saturday, two beautiful Cairns joined our family:  Ellabell - eight years old, a stunning Gray Brindle girl weighing 16 pounds, and Teddi DonEllyn - a four to five  year old big Wheaten boy, coming in at just under 20 pounds.

Our rescue angel, who dropped everything to retrieve them, named Teddi in memory of her beloved cairn: Ted of DonEllyn

They both have been wagging their tails and, while scared, all reports have been that they are both friendly and sweet.  They are currently getting their spa treatments, and will be moving to their foster homes next Saturday.

Welcome Ellabell and Teddi DonEllyn!

Tennessee Walker finds Safety with Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Tennessee Walker, a Sweet 12 year old Light Wheaten Male
This past Friday, a sweet senior gentleman joined our CP family.  At twelve years of age, this little man found himself in need of a new Forever Home after the passing of his beloved owner.  A friend of the family kept Tennessee Walker safe until CP could work out the details to get him.  The friend knew that at his age, Tennessee Walker didn't stand a great chance at a shelter, and, for this friend’s thoughtfulness, we are grateful.

Tennessee Walker has arrived at his Foster Home, and will be settling in until his Forever family finds him.  Thanks to all the folks, from family friend to transporters, who gave an old boy a second chance.

Welcome Tennessee Walker!

Still Wrapped in Love!

As Spring struggles to shake off the chills of Winter, it seems fitting to revisit a 2009 video honoring our Col. Potter "Blanket Aunties" and many of the CP Fosters who have been touched by their efforts of love.  Each and every Cairn rescued by Col. Potter receives their very own blankie to help show them that they are now SAFE and LOVED.  Safety and love is something very foreign to many of our fosters but our Blanket Aunties help give them a taste of what is to come!

If you would like to become a Blanket Auntie, fill out a volunteer application or email our Director of Volunteerism. If you would like to donate fabric, email us at cpcrn@CairnRescue.com.

Welcome Shaila, CP’s Newest Sweetie!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Shaila, a Sweet 9 year old Wheaten Female
Shaila is a sweet 9 year old Cairn girl who weighs in at about 16 lbs.  We do not know about the first five years of her life, but she was adopted from a shelter about four years ago.  Unfortunately, her owners encountered life changes and made the difficult choice to return Shaila to the shelter.

It is no surprise to find that many Cairns do not adjust well to the shelter environment.  Sweet and quiet, Shaila found the transition difficult.  Col. Potter was asked to assist and we promptly collected Shaila.   After a spa week, Shaila will join her Foster Home.

Please welcome sweet Shaila!

Tohoe gets a Helping Hand from Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Tohoe, a Sweet 11 year old Wheaten Male who likes cats!
Sweet little Tohoe recently found himself in need of a helping hand when he landed in a strange place called a “shelter”.

He and his Yorkipoo brother were dropped off at the shelter after their guardians lost their home.  When his cute little brother got adopted, the shelter worker tried to get the family to take both of them, but they left Tohoe behind.  He was not doing well after his brother left, so the shelter contacted Col. Potter to see if we might take him and find him a special family to love him.

Tohoe is being boarded this week and will soon be on his way to his foster home, where he will wait for his new family to find him.  He is 11 years old and said to be one sweet boy.  He gets along well with both dogs and cats - yes cats too!  He asks to go out to potty, and never made a sound traveling in the car.  Tohoe is a mature gentleman and will make a great companion for someone looking for a Special Cairn to love.

Welcome Tohoe!!

Roper Rides the Wind into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Roper, a 5 year old Light Wheaten Male
As you know, a number of really bad storms have left countless families in situations they never expected to be in, many having to relocate, rebuild, and figure out how to put their lives back together.  In doing so, they often have to make hard decisions, and far too many times that means having to find a new home for their pets.

We are happy that that one such family recently decided to contact CP to take their Cairn boy, "Roper".  A healthy five year old, he was loved very much by his family, and he loves people and belly rubs!  Roper spent the first night with one of our volunteers, cuddled right up with her on the couch, and slept through the night in his crate before being moved on to his Foster Home.  A trooper and a lover, this boy will be ready in no time for his new family to find him!

Please, give a big welcome to "Roper"!

Wrangler Wanders into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Wrangler, a 2 year old Wheaten Male
Last week, Col. Potter learned of a young Cairn boy that lost his way on an adventure. He had been escorted to the local shelter and awaited his owner, but, unfortunately, he was not reclaimed.  Lucky for him, a shelter worker contacted CP so this boy would be safe from any risk.

Wrangler is a 2 year old Wheaten boy, weighing in at almost 19 pounds.  He is enjoying his spa week and will make his way to his Foster Home soon.

Please welcome Wrangler, a handsome and energetic boy!
