Tying things out at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Ty, a great little 8 year old Black Brindle Male

Ty has now joined the Col. Potter family!  He’s 8 years old and has been a very loved, well cared-for family member through three generations of his former family, starting when he was just a young pup.  He is housebroken, good with children and other dogs, and, like a good Cairn, has been known to have killed a snake or two in HIS yard.  Ty knows several commands, loves to play fetch, loves riding in cars, likes baths and grooming, and is a great leash walker!

Ty’s family was very sad to see him leave, but family health issues made it very difficult to give him the life he deserves.

Welcome little Ty!!!  We’ll find you a new family that will love you just as much as your former family!

Col. Potter Recalls some Soulful Oldies!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Roberta Flack, an approximately 1 year old Wheaten Female

Percy Sledge, an approximately 1 year old Wheaten Male

When you're young and in love, the whole world is an adventure.  For most of us, that conjures up distant memories from a more youthful time.  We were free to explore the countryside with our young love, possibly with the top down on a sporty car, playing what are now some soulful oldies such as "When a Man Loves a Woman" by Percy Sledge and possibly the immortal Roberta Flack with such hits as "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face:, "Killing Me Softly with His Song" and who could leave out "Feel Like Makin' Love".  They were simpler times, life was good, and "free" love was everywhere.

That life still existed for a young Cairn couple that were discovered traveling the rural countryside in the South by themselves.  They graciously accepted some Southern hospitality and, with the help of their hosts, have now found their way to the good life with CP.

We are pleased to introduce CP's own Soul Singers:

#6287  -  Percy Sledge -   M Estimated 1 year old, Wheaten
#6286  -  Roberta Flack -  F, Estimated 1 year old, Wheaten

Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman" was written when his girlfriend left him to pursue modeling.  And so will be the case when Percy Sledge and Roberta Flack have completed their spa treatment and each travel to a foster home.  And I'm sure Roberta Flack's retort will be "Killing Me Softly with His Song".

May CP''s Percy Sledge and Roberta Flack continue to make beautiful music for many years to come with a happily ever after for each of them!

Spunky Sir Charlie Comes to Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Sir Charlie, a Spunky and Handsome 10 year old Wheaten Male

Col. Potter is pleased to welcome a very handsome and sophisticated 10 year old Wheaten gentleman!

Sir Charlie was surrendered to a shelter.  The shelter staff reached out to CP to help find a good home for this spunky, full of energy Cairn.  Sir Charlie can put his energy to good use as he trims some of his 19 lbs.  Sir Charlie will head to his foster home this weekend.

Welcome Sir Charlie!

Sanibel & Captiva Summer with Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Sanibel, a 7 year old Wheaten Female

Captiva, a 3 year old Black Brindle Female

Summertime has finally arrived!  Break out the shorts and swimsuits, get out the sand buckets and water floats, enjoy the sun and warm temperatures, and head to a beautiful beach for a while!  For those of us that live in the Great North, we only get to enjoy these Summertime treats for a couple of months a year.  There are, however, beautiful places that you can travel to and find Summertime throughout the year, no matter what month it is.  Two of the most beautiful little islands lay right off the west coast of Florida.  They offer a respite to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate oneself.

This past weekend, two little Cairn girls got the opportunity to find respite with Col. Potter.  They will now be able to put their prior life behind them and have a chance to relax, recharge, and rejuvenate themselves while they wait for their adoptive homes to find them and have a happily ever after.

Please help us Welcome:

Sanibel:  F, 7 years old, Wheaten

Captiva:  F, 3 years old, Black Brindle

Col. Potter is currently running very low on foster homes.  We don't ever want to be in a position to not be able to offer respite to little Cairns like Sanibel and Captiva because we don't have room for them at the inn.  If you are an Approved Foster Home and able to take a Foster now, please let us know.  If you are not a Foster Home, please consider applying to become one!

Enjoy your Summer, Sanibel and Captiva!

Please  Consider being a CP Volunteer!

Darby Delights at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Darby, a Happy 7 year old Black Brindle Male

Darby’s former owner contacted Col. Potter to see if we could help find a new loving home for his little buddy.  You see, a major job/location change would result in Darby being home alone 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, and he was rightly concerned.

This very handsome Cairn boy is 7 years old, loves to play, loves car rides, and needs to lose a few pounds.   He’s now at his CP Foster Home, ready to begin his new adventure!

Welcome to the CP family, Darby!

Carlyle Listens to Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Carlyle, a 6 year old Black Brindle Male

Carlyle is a 16.4 lb, 6 year old (born 12/06/06) male Cairn whose owner's life had become too hectic to give Carlyle the attention and love he deserved.  Col. Potter was called, and Carlyle quickly became our newest CP kid.

Carlyle loves attention, loves going for walks, will vocalize when he has the need to go outside, but is not the best listener...  We'll work on that!

Let’s all give Carlyle a warm CP Welcome!

The Balcony is Open at Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Get a tub of hot, buttered popcorn and a tall, cold drink, pull up a seat, and make yourself comfortable as you are about to be entertained by two of the most famous celebrities and they aren't even movie stars!  For years, the show "At The Movies" starred Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert as movie critics, usually with very different opinions of the movies they were reviewing.  They were equally famous for their "Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down" rating system.  People watched "At The Movies" as much for the interaction between Siskel and Ebert as for their actual ratings of movies!  During their time as hosts together, the series was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards seven times and also for Outstanding Information Series.  Sadly, Gene Siskel died in 1999 and Roger Ebert succumbed to cancer earlier this year, but the memory of Siskel and Ebert will live on in movie goers' minds far in to the future.

Siskel, a 5-6 year old Wheaten Female

Ebert, a 5-6 year old Black Brindle Male

And now, CP has our own version of this colorful and controversial duo!  While they might not have a TV show of their own, I'm quite certain they will prove to be equally entertaining and have many a story to tell of their past and achieving freedom in the loving arms of Col. Potter.  Making their CP debut, I give you CP's At The Movies:

#5390 Ebert - M, Black Brindle, 5-6 years old

#5391 Siskel - F, Wheaten, 5-6 years old

These names were made possible by the Name a Rescue Cairn Program - donated by the Intakes Team as a thank you to Karen M. and myself for hosting an Intakes Retreat in Florida earlier this year.

So far, their review of Col. Potter has been very favorable by both of them, and Siskel and Ebert are in agreement with TWO THUMBS UP!

Col. Potter Tips the Scales for Norbie!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Norbie, a Handsome 6 year old Wheaten Male

Please welcome this very handsome 6 year old Wheaten Cairn boy!  Norbie was surrendered to a shelter when his owner was no longer able to care for him.  He is a very active boy with plenty of Cairnitude!  Norbie’s activity should come in handy as he starts an exercise and diet regime in order to loose several of his 24 lbs. in his Col. Potter Foster Home.

Norbie's name was donated through Col. Potter's Name a Rescue Cairn Program. What a wonderful way to honor someone special and help a Cairn too!  Thank you to Carolyn and Jeff H. for your support.  Jeff's dad was named Norbert, but everyone called him "Norbie".  He passed away this past October and was a wonderful man who had a huge heart for dogs.

Please join us as we Welcome Norbie into the CP Family!

Darla Joins the Col. Potter Gang!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Sweet and Spunky Darla of The Little Rascals fame!

Years ago there was a show we all watched and still remember with a smile - The Little Rascals - Our Gang!   We all remember the antics of those ornery little boys and their loyal dog, Pete.  Do you remember Darla, the sweet, spunky girlfriend of Alfalfa?   She put up with all the boys and their girl hating.  No girls allowed in the tree house!!!  This young, darling girl stood her ground with the boys quite well!

Darla, a Beautiful 1 year old Light Wheaten Female

Col. Potter now has it’s own darling Darla!  She's a one year old, Cream Cairn terrier who lost her home through no fault of her own.  Her owners, like many others these past few years, could no longer financially care for her.  She was surrendered to a no kill shelter in hopes of finding a new home.  Darla was very confused over losing the only home she had known.  At the shelter she was scared and nervous, so much that the shelter contacted Col. Potter for help as they have in the past.

In no time Darla was picked up by a wonderful CP volunteer and whisked away for her spa treatment at the vet.  Soon Darla will be relaxing in the warmth of her foster home!  Her fears and sadness of her loss will be a thing of the past in no time.  Darla will once again know love!

Welcome Darla to OUR CP GANG!!!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Pavonia, a beautiful 10 year old Black Brindle Female

Please give a warm welcome to Col. Potter’s newest members, Pavonia and Communipaw!

Pavonia is an 10 year old beautiful Black Brindle girl.  She has a lot to say, and will let you know how she feels!  She is named after the first European settlement on the west bank of the North River (Hudson River) that was part of the 17th century province of New Netherland in what would become today's Hudson County, New Jersey

Communipaw, a sweet 11 year old Wheaten Male
Communipaw is an 11 year old Wheaten boy.  He is sweet and timid, a gentle soul.  His name comes from  the time of European settlement in the 17th century- Communipaw was the site of the Summer encampment and counsel fire of the Hackensack Indians

Pavonia and Communipaw are settling into their Foster home, and will soon be ready to find their happy Forever homes.
