Aubrey Finds a Safe Haven at Col. Potter!

Aubrey was found as a stray by a young woman.  She was a matted mess and covered with fleas.   The young woman took her to a vet for a microchip scan and quick check-up and then posted her on Craigslist, looking for a new home or rescue for her.   She was heartworm positive and had a growth on her gums that needed to be removed.   The young woman could not afford the recommended procedures, and was very thankful when the Col. Potter Rescue Team contacted her offering  assistance.

This sweet little girl is estimated to be 5 years old and weighs 13 lbs.   Our vet removed the mass and sent it out to pathology, believing it to be a benign growth called an Epulis, and her confirming heartworm test indicates she’s a Stage 1.

Aubrey is in her Foster Home and undergoing the heartworm treatment, and is a true joy to foster with her sweet temperament and excellent house manners.  When she is determined to be heartworm free, she will make a wonderful addition to some lucky home!

An average of six to eight times each year, Col. Potter rescues a heartworm positive Cairn, giving them the chance to overcome this dreadful condition and live a happy, healthy life.  The prescribed treatment program runs an average cost of $1,000 and is not for the faint of heart, requiring a dedicated Volunteer to be there for a three or four month duration, managing every aspect of every day for the dog undergoing treatment.

PupsEtc is pleased to offer Col. Potter a special Heartwarming Tails fundraiser to help offset the cost of our current stable of four Foster Cairns undergoing this expensive heartworm treatment.  Beginning Saturday, October 19th through Friday, November 1st, a full 20% of all proceeds taken in by PupsEtc during this two week period will be donated to Col. Potter.

NEW!  The Picaboo Square Bolster bed with Removable Center Pillow in honor of CP Picaboo, currently undergoing treatment for heartworm.
