How many of you remember the Theme from Rawhide?

Written by a CP Matchmaker

Ok, I have taken some great liberties with one of my favorite songs and it is my "motto" for my Match Making. Nothing about this is meant lightly, it is meant to express just how I feel. Hope it isn't too corny!

Rolling, rolling, rolling
Rolling, rolling, rolling
Col. Potter keeps on rolling,
Col. Potter Keeps on rolling
With Pride

Though the streams are swollen
and when the snow is falling
They keep them doggies rolling
With Pride

Rain and wind and weather
Hell bent for leather
Thankful Col. Potter's by their side
All the things they are missin'
Good vittels, lovin', kissin'
Are waiting at the end of their ride

Move 'em on, head' em up
Head 'em up, move' em on
Move 'em on, head' em up
With Pride

Col. Potter keeps on provin'
They can get them doggies movin'
And keep them doggies movin'
With Pride

You'll try to understand 'em
You won't throw, or brand 'em
Soon they'll be living high and wide
My heart is calculatin'
Their true love will be waitin'
Be waiting at the end of their ride

Move 'em on, head' em up
Head 'em up, move' em on
Move 'em on, head' em up
With Pride

Bring 'em out, bring 'em in
Take 'em in, fix 'em up
'dopt 'em out, Bring 'em in
With Pride

Rolling, rolling, rolling
Col. Potter keeps on Rolling
Yes Col Potter keeps on Rolling
With Pride,
Yes with Pride!
Yes with Pride!

ENJOY A TALL, SWEET COLADA

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

There's a popular song entitled "Do You Like Pina Coladas?" about a couple that have fallen into a dull routine and are looking for an ESCAPE. In the end, they find happiness and adventure with each other once again.

Imagine a little female alone, a stray wandering in search of food, water and shelter. She's filthy dirty, covered in matts and fleas and ticks. On top of everything else she has a HUGE hernia the size of a grapefruit which is painful and makes it difficult for her to walk. She definitely wants to ESCAPE! She is picked up by a local shelter, considering her condition she has little chance of being adopted and this being a KILL shelter has little time to find that happiness and adventure she craves. Just like the song, she waited with high hopes for her ESCAPE.

Today she got her ESCAPE when she became part of the CP family! Colada is estimated to be 5 years old and is a little on the larger size of Cairns. My thanks to Cheryl P. for meeting Colada at the shelter and helping her ESCAPE to our vet where she will be boarded and vetted.

So, Col. Potter, DO YOU LIKE PINA COLADAS? I know you'll like this Colada! Welcome to CP Colada!

THE WINDY CITY KIDS VII ARE HERE!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

This week, three more Windy City Kids made their way into the loving arms of Col. Potter.

For those new or unfamiliar with the history of the Windy City Kids, they come from a famed Cairn breeder who in her elderly years has become unable to care for and support her dogs. Col. Potter has been working with her for the past three years to reduce her numbers and find loving, forever homes for her Cairns.

Holding with our Chicago theme, our Windy City VII are named after some Chicago area airports:

Meigs is a 6-7 year old black brindle and the mother of Palwaukee

Palwaukee is a 1 year old cream colored female and the daughter of Meigs

O'Hare is a 6-7 year old male red wheaten

Please help me WELCOME the Windy City Kids VII!!!

TACO BELL MENU DELIGHTS AT CP NOW!! AYE CHIHUAHUA!!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

A very popular fast food restaurant, Taco Bell, has a current slogan "Think Outside the Bun". Well, for our Taco Bell Menu Delights, I would like to use the slogan "Think Outside the Mill"!!!

I have been working on getting these five little Cairns out of the mill for more than two months now since we learned that the miller was fatally injured in an accident. The miller's family doesn't have the time and they all have other jobs, so they finally decided to close down the breeding operation and dispose of the breeding stock. Who says perseverence doesn't pay off? After making another attempt at contacting the family and some negotiation, these five Cairns made it to freedom last Wednesday and are now "Outside the Mill" and in the loving arms of Col. Potter!

Introducing our Taco Bell Menu Delights :

Chalupa: F, DOB 7/14/05, who just whelped her last litter of puppies two months ago

Taco: M, DOB 11/21/05, who was the father of Chalupa's puppies

Gordita: Female, age unknown

Enchirito: Female, age unknown, may be related to Chalupa

Nacho, Male , age unknown

Chalupa and Taco were the miller's first Cairns and were the only ones the miller's family could find the paperwork on. The other three are all younger than Chalupa and Taco, so all of them are under 5 years of age. From first appearances, they all seem to be in pretty good shape physically, are pretty friendly and well socialized and are definitely ready for freedom!

My THANKS to Dawn B. who drove into the middle of nowhere in Nebraska on Wednesday to pick up these kids and to Deirdre B. and her friend Gayle, who then drove to meet Dawn on Thursday to pick them up and get them to Deirdre's vet for boarding and vetting. Also, thanks for the great pictures Deirdre!

Please join me in extending a big Col. Potter Hola and Bienvenido to the Taco Bell Menu Delights!!

An Article Featuring Two CPCRN Volunteers!

Women Provide Home For Abused Dogs
Ten lucky terriers get temporary shelter while they await permanent adoption
By Megan King Staff Writer

Sheryl, has saved more than 25 dogs from abuse and neglect since she started volunteering for the Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue organization. The California-based national nonprofit recruits volunteers in communities across the country to find homes for terriers that have been rescued from abuse or neglect, or from owners no longer able to care for them.

The group was named after Col. Potter, a Cairn terrier who was struck by a car and killed in 1999. The dog had been well known on an online chat group devoted to Cairns, and the organization was founded a year later and named after the canine.

Sheryl helps transport dogs from rescue sites to their adoptive homes, and visits people who have adopted dogs. Sheryl and her friend, Judith, who share the same home, use their home as a temporary shelter. The women said they are motivated by their common concern for innocent dogs that are abused or neglected. ‘‘A dog is totally helpless,” Sheryl said.

Their home now has 10 dogs, the maximum their license allows. They have a hobby license from the city that allows them to keep the animals in their home. Of the 10 dogs at home, some were purchased and some were rescued. A few are foster dogs, which they’ll keep until permanent homes are found. The women originally bought several dogs from a pet store, and got involved with the rescue organization after they began researching information about dogs on the Internet. They discovered that some dogs on sale in pet stores came from puppy mills — where animals are mass-produced and often neglected.

Three of their rescued dogs are part of the ‘‘Pets on Wheels” program, which allows owners to make visits with their dogs to senior centers and other facilities. One Cairn terrier, Rosie, participates in the county library system’s ‘‘Read to Rover” program, in which children can practice their reading skills by reading to dogs. ‘‘She was rescued and she’s giving back to society,” Sheryl said.

The volunteers have a variety of methods for rescuing dogs, mainly through buying dogs at auctions. Puppy mills also occasionally call in rescue groups to take dogs the mill owners no longer want.

A native of Ontario, Sheryl moved to the U.S. 10 years ago. The home’s living room features a Canadian flag hanging on the wall in the middle of the dogs’ crates and beds. Judith is a native of Takoma Park and works for the federal government. Danielle, president of Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue, praised the women’s efforts. She said Sheryl and Judith are ‘‘always willing” to take any dog that needs a foster home. ‘‘Their work is exceptional; they’re always so willing to help out,” she said.
