Please Welcome Billy the Kid!

Written by a CP Volunteer

This little boy was born July 4, 2008, to a Mom who had been surrendered to a local shelter, whether before or after his birth, I do not know. He was raised in a shelter foster home until he was adopted. It seems that he bullied other pups, was food aggressive and barks a lot - where have we heard that before? At any rate he was returned and the shelter felt he would be hard to adopt given his past record so they asked Col. Potter to take him. He added to his reputation as a terrier-ist by chewing through a staff member's mouse cord when he was allowed the run of the office. I felt he deserved a name to match his reputation, so allow me to introduce Billy the Kid! He traveled quietly on the way home, only barking to protect us from a nearby motorcycle. We had a short photo session before he was crated in the laundry. He complained for a few minutes, but is quiet now. He will B & B with us until transport can be arranged to his foster Mom, Marsha T. He sure is a cute little guy to be a terrier-ist!

  1. This story really reminded me of my Cairn when she was little, our little terrier-ist! She recently passed away. I wanted to share some thoughts my dad wrote about our Lapa:

    On food:

Sometimes the food in the cat’s bowl really is tastier.

Every day should begin with cheese.

Chewing is optional after one has had an extended period of sniffing.

    On barking:

    Bark when you’re happy/angry/afraid.

Bark when you want to bark.

Bark at the neighbors, especially if they are up the hill.

Bark when you see a squirrel.

When in doubt, raise the roof with your barking.

    On life:

Nothing beats a good belly rub.

    The tail never lies.

Good things come in small packages.

    Things are always looking up.

Biting is an example of a good offense being the best defense.

Rugs and blankets work as well as the lawn for some things.

    Cuteness trumps good behavior.

    Blonds have more fun.

    Bathing is overrated.

Nothing beats lying in the grass, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine while surveying one’s domain (and barking).
