Col. Potter Joins Sacramento Doggy Dash!

Written by a CP Media Volunteer

Col. Potter is fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who are willing to travel and donate their free time to promote the cause of cairn rescue. Jay, Denise, Pam and Jeff set up and worked at the Col. Potter Booth last weekend at the Sacramento Doggy Dash.

The Sacramento SPCA was the beneficiary of the 16th annual Doggy Dash. Col. Potter’s booth was in a row with Westie, Greyhound, Boxer and Mini Pinscher Rescues as well as several others. There were many vistors to the booth who read the information on the display boards and took fliers. It was a great opportunity for a wide variety of vendors, pet health promoters and rescue organizations to get plenty of exposure as well.

Denise brought Monkey and Zoya with her and Pam arrived with Duncan. Pam's husband, Jeff came with their new puppy, Cali, a very cute and attention getting Bernese Mountain Dog. Some alumnae of Col. Potter stopped by and their dogs are Charlie (Col. Potter name Pepsi and Denise's former foster) and Rufus.

There was another lady from Roseville who came by with her CP kid that was originally her own foster. She actually found out about Col. Potter at another doggy dash. Jay reports a lot of Cairn traffic, at least a dozen along with their bodyguards. There were three large activity rings where agility, racing and retrieval took place and they were busy most of the day. There was also a well attended walk with the dogs that went around the golf course that's in William Land Park. The line of folks with their pets that left the starting gate took at least 10 minutes to all get on the route.

The Pug racing was an advertised highlight and it was very entertaining. There were three heats, each with about 12 Pugs. A handler held each dog which ran across the large ring to it's master on the other side. The fourth round decided a winner although they were all champions.

All in all it was a fun, well run day and according to Denise and Pam, it was impressively larger than the previous Doggy Dashes. Jay looks forward to going again. It was definitely a positive day for Col. Potter as we got to explain to many people what we are doing and how they could find out more about us online. Thanks to Denise for bringing all of the materials that we needed to build and stock the booth and to Pam and Jeff for being there to lend a hand all day as well.
