ANNUAL WALNUT CREEK CAIRN POOL PARTY IS ENJOYED BY ALL!

Contributed by a CP Volunteer

You heard them, It's a Cairn Pool Party!

Well, things are put away, my pups are conked out, and I am going to write just a bit about our day at our Annual Walnut Creek Cairn Pool Party which was not without small flubs, like I forgot to check the propane tank on the barbecue, and just when Tim was about to start cooking the burgers and chicken,no heat! Jay ran (actually drove) down the street, and traded it in for a full tank at the Chevron station-very small delay. Then, when the meat was ready, we realized I forgot hamburger buns, but there is a market down the street, and Vicki drove down and picked up buns.

Who's Winning?

We had the usual hot dog eating contest, with ribbons, and Toddy and Monkey got all 10 in the dishpan (in water), in less than 30 seconds. Someone got 7, Beamer got 4 (losing her eyesight), and a couple got 1. There were prizes here, and the ribbons. We had the oldest/youngest dog, and Scout's(my Frannie, who escaped and was gone 12 days) sister Annie was the oldest, at 16.5, and our honorary cairn (Chihuahua), Ace, was the youngest, at 9 mos. He also earned his Canine Good Citizen.

Enjoying the Day

The people there were Col Potter people, adoptive and foster, friends from the Sacramento Cairn Club (now extinct), and my parade and dog training friends. We had 2 Schipperkes, a Norwich (for those of you who know Mary Strauss, she was here with her pup), and a Chihuahua.

We had Delight (foster) and Sciorse (sp) (adopted CP pup), who were 2 of the 3 rescued from a breeder by one of CPs volunteers , and who hadn't seen each other since they went to their respective foster homes. The third of that group, Lord Randall, is in Oregon, and didn't come. Wilhelimina and Withrow (sp.-they call them Lucy and Desi-they've been together through a breeder, on to a puppy mill, and to us of blocks away, and they are darling.

My Satori/Tori, here only a week, had a ball, going from lap to lap (she's a snuggler), and tried to steal Jay's chicken, when he put his plate down on his chair.
Several went in the wading pool, Beamer dived in the "real pool", and Toddy spent time on her usual top step, in the water. They chased the pool sweep, squealing when it squirted them.

That's my step!

One of my friends, from the Sacramento Cairn Club, handed me a check for Col. Potter-I figured 5 or 10 dollars, and when I opened it awhile ago, it was for $50!

Several people got my card, and have friends they think will apply to adopt, so we may get some new members. One tried to adopt from Pug Rescue, and they wouldn't let her, because she had some larger dogs, and cats, who they insisted she had to declaw! She is likely to apply to us-she was a parade and training friend.

Katie's (Hockey) husband barbecued for the second year, and everyone brought their best for the potluck. Denise came early, and HELPED with so much, before and after. Several people bought blankies, and I have money for new fleece. Everyone got a door prize from my stash, and all had a good time.

My friend Sue, from parades and training, has a friend, Dan, who has Chihuahuas, and also chickens and other birds, and he met one of the Cairn club people, and now they go to each, to trade chickens, ducks, etc.

Anyway, a great day, perfect company, perfect weather, and only one small thing marred it-Willie jumped Monkey-didn't hurt him, though. About 4:00, a bunch of pups got a second wind, and they tore around in a chase, up and down the steps to the pool, around the yard, doubling back and forth.

Time to relax!

I'm sure everyone slept well after a fun filled day!
