COTTON IS HOME AFTER SUCCESSFUL SURGERY!

Written by Cotton's foster mom

Cotton is out of surgery and doing fine! He was able to repair both hernias which he reinforced with collagen grafts, just to provide extra support. The large hernia sack hanging from Cotton's belly did NOT contain her bladder, but it was full of fluid which he drained and the sack was then removed. Once he opened her belly, he could see the bladder was in place and not involved in the hernia. Cotton apparently had a reaction to the sutures for her spay, and several lumps had formed which he has also removed. He used a different type of suture material to close her incision.

My poor little imp is not feeling very impish. I brought her home and she crawled into her little bed and is sleeping. She looks so pitiful.

According to the doctor's write-up of Cotton's surgery, he removed a large fluid-filled cyst from the right inguinal hernia. It appears all previous incisions (both the right and left inguinal hernias and her spay) contained reactive tissue caused by the absorbable suture used in her intake vetting procedures. The reactive tissue was removed from all three areas and the surgeon sutured a collagen graft in place for addtional support in both hernias.

She's pretty swollen right now but they tell me the swelling should start to subside in about a month. I'm to keep her from running, jumping or climbing stairs for three weeks (YIKES!).

Thanks to Col. Potter and her guardian angels, she now has the opportunity to enjoy life as a healthy cairn. If you would like to join her other angels to participate in sponsoring this girl, please click here.
