Can you help find Fiona?
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- She has survived more trauma than any dog has a right to, but now the owner of a tough, big hearted Cairn terrier is worried that Fiona might not come home.
Fiona has just three legs after being run over by a city bus two years ago. She went missing earlier this week after slipping out the door behind her owner's roommate, and accidentally getting locked outside the gate of her home in the Hamline-Midway area of St. Paul.
Fiona was seen crossing Minnehaha Avenue at 2:30PM Wednesday. Authorities have been notified, neighbors contacted, and Wednesday night a team of volunteers went door to door informing residents and posting flyers.
Owner Pam Hoff says Fiona isn't just special to her, but also to boys who need a steady, loving presence in their lives. Hoff teaches at the Boys Totem Town correctional facility, and takes Fiona there every day. With good behavior and effort, young inmates earn the right to take Fiona on walks, and spend time with her. She has become an important piece in the rehabilitation of many young men.
The little Cairn is unquestionably a tough little character: besides being run over by the bus, Fiona has also survived severe injuries suffered in an attack by a neighborhood dog. Although she appears active, it is unlikely Fiona could survive in someone else's care as she has special, specific medical needs.
If you see Fiona the three legged dog, email her owner Pam Hoff (indiapamela@ yahoo.com, remove space), or log on to the Animal Humane Society website.
