They are unsung heroes. They are the champions of our backyards. They triumph over dangers big, small and imaginary. They protect us from the intrusions of our friends (you know, the friends they don't like because they have that other dog?) They are loyal. They are loving.
April is national dog appreciation month. What better time to show your beloved canine you care? What better time to show reverence for the sacrifices they've made for you, like allowing themselves to be kicked off the couch so you can rest after a day's work? Or perhaps how they heroically offer to help you with your diet by stealing food off your plate when you aren't looking?
Yes, dogs are heroes. They are worthy of our appreciation and respect just as much as our love. So this April, when your dog barks at the unseen dangers in the night, or daylight, let him or her know you appreciate their diligence.
