Please welcome Needles!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Needles has been sitting in a shelter for 2 months, just waiting and waiting. No one came to adopt him and once the shelter workers realized he was extremely depressed, they contacted us for help. When he first arrived at the shelter, they said he was a happy, tail-wagging little boy. But as the days wore on, he wouldn’t even get up when someone walked by his kennel. I think he was losing all hope that his life would ever be a happy one again.

Well that all changed today when Carla went to spring him. She said he seemed cautiously happy to be out (even though he’s now at the vet) and kept rolling over for belly rubs. As you can see he has extreme hair loss (and has had for well over 2 months) but will start the necessary treatment to get him on the road to health and happiness.

The shelter thought he was about 11 years old, but the vet said based on his teeth and eyes, she’d guess he’s younger – possibly 8 years old.

Needles shares his new name with a once sickly foal (so named because of his many visits to the vet) who not only got healthy but went on to win both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1956 (and came in 2nd in the Preakness – almost a Triple Crown Winner).

Hang in there little fellow – things will only get better from now on!
