LB still needs surgery to repair a badly broken leg |
Little
LB gave everyone a real scare today! Before you panic, he's alive, but it
certainly could have gone either way...
When
LB was put under anesthesia today for his orthopedic surgery (to repair his
severely broken rear left leg with fractures in four places), his blood
pressure dropped drastically. This is not all that uncommon, but it
usually comes right back up when treated with appropriate medications to raise
it. This was NOT the case for little LB! It took an extraordinarily
long time - 30 minutes - to get his blood pressure back to normal.
He
was immediately taken off anesthesia and has been put on an IV to flush out his
kidneys. The low blood pressure slows and even stops the flow of blood to
all vital organs, including his kidneys, and could send him into renal
failure. He is being carefully monitored, having some additional testing
done today, and research is being done to find a safer anesthetic solution for
LB. His orthopedic surgery will last anywhere from 3 to 5 hours,
depending on the extent of the damage and repair that is needed, so it is
imperative that they find a safe anesthesia that LB can tolerate. If this
cannot be done, then the only other option will be to amputate LB's leg which
would require being under anesthesia for a shorter period of time.
Of
course, we all hope this won't be the case and that the orthopedic surgery team
will be able to find an anesthesia protocol that LB is tolerant of. They
will be attempting surgery again tomorrow morning.
In
the meantime, LB's medical bills continue to escalate with this latest
setback. Please consider helping with LB's medical expenses.
All
donations should include a note to help LB and should be sent to:
