A Big Welcome to Little Minnow!

Contributed by a CP Intakes Volunteer

Minnow
Minnow was picked up as a stray by Animal Services.  She waited 8 long days and no one came looking for her.  The shelter was bursting at the seams (as usual) and contacted us at Col. Potter to see if we had room for her.  Fortunately, we had room AND an available foster home close by!

I suspect Minnow might end up with the nickname of “Mini” – she only weights 11.8 lbs!  The shelter said she’s a real sweetheart and couldn’t believe no one claimed her.  They estimate she’s 1-2 years old.

Welcome to the family little sweetie!

Geordi La Forge and Vana recently graced CP

Written by a CP intakes volunteer

Because of some unhappy events in their home life, these two little cairn siblings found themselves in need of a new home. And their daddy took special care to see that they were placed with the best possible people...meaning Col. Potter, of course.

Geordi La Forge is described as a sweet, somewhat shy, 11-year-old brindle gentleman.

Vana is a beautiful spirited 12-year-old wheaten lady.

These two distinguished "kids" are such a classy addition to our family--lets give them both a big CP Welcome!

Welcome, Kenna!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please welcome Col. Potter's Kenna, who recently joined our rescue family. This sweet, chubby girl is a 4 year old wheaten who is happy to be here. She was living with a family that realized they were not the best family to meet her needs. The family made the hard decision to reach out to rescue to see if a more appropriate home could be found. They were patient while all the details were worked out, knowing that she deserved a great life, not just a life.

Kenna will be working on her weight, getting her spa treatment to look her best, and looking for that perfect forever!

Welcome, Kenna!!

Dacie hits a home run to CP!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

What's a girl to do when life just keeps pitching her curve balls and she doesn't even like baseball??

This little adorable girl had a mom who was devoted to her and doted on her; she had the perfect game going. But then the curve balls started getting pitched. Her mom became very ill, was hospitalized and recently passed away. Not even knowing what ballpark her mom was located in, this little girl just figured three strikes and she was out.

But then a pinch hitter was called in, one that could handle all the curve balls life can throw at you. Col. Potter belted the ball right out of the ballpark clearing the bases and sending this little one scampering for home, well at least a great foster home with CP!

Please help me give a big, warm CP welcome to Dacie, a beautiful 9 year old who is no longer afraid of any curve balls that may be thrown her way. She has the big bats of Col. Potter to win the game for her!

WELCOME OUR NEWEST CP FAMILY MEMBERS!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

OK, this is a challenge. See if you can figure out what the new furkids that recently joined CP are named ...

I just "Can't Stop Dancing", I'm so happy I didn't have to "Shop Around" any further to find them. Our wonderful volunteer who picked them up was singing the "Song of Joy" all the way back, saying "but I think it's a dream" because anything that smells this bad can't be real. But we all know after a week of spa treatment they won't ever be singing "Muskrat Love" again!

Soon they will be with a wonderful foster family where they won't experience "Lonely Night" and will realize "You Never Done It Like That" before and will want to figure out "The Way I Want to Touch You" is a good thing. She will be singing he ain't gonna "Do That to Me One More Time" and he will be playing "Love Will Keep Us Together" NO MORE!

So, have you figured out who has most recently taken the stage as CP's newest celebrities???

Ladies and Gentlemen, please help me welcome Captain & Tennille!

Captain - Male, is just a little bit of a thing and never stops moving

Tennille - Female, has packed on a few extra pounds that she will be working on losing

Both are estimated to be 6-7 years old. Looking forward to Captain & Tennille enjoying a whole new concert tour on the road to their adoptive homes!

Welcome Reagan!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please welcome this adorable little 5 year old cairn girl. She just had a birthday a few days ago. Reagan was very well loved and well taken care of, but due to health issues her mom decided she needed to find a better life for her little girl than she could provide--one where Reagan could be around active people and other dogs, take walks and maybe go to the dog park occasionally. So Reagan is now a Col. Potter girl and happily secured at her foster home.

Welcome little one! We’ll do our best to make your mom’s wishes come true!

Welcome Glynis to CP!

Col. Potter expanded the cairn family to include a beautiful wheaten girl named Glynis.  This sweet girl's life was at risk because she found herself in a shelter too long, was ill with kennel cough, and a planned rescue fell through.  In less than 48 hours of learning that Glynis was at risk, a wonderful Col. Potter volunteer had whisked her from the shelter, cleaned her up, and delivered her to the vet.

This calm, friendly, and well mannered lady had been neglected as evidenced by her matted coat.  Glynis stretched out and relaxed as her coat was combed and her ears were trimmed.  Glynis will enjoy her spa week which will include a necessary introduction to healthy eating and exercise.  Miss Glynis will be working to reduce her current 30 lbs to a more healthy and svelte figure.  Please welcome this lucky and beautiful lady.

TAKE A LOOK AT CP'S VACATION MEMORIES

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

There's nothing better than letting your mind drift back to special memories of vacations past. Or finding a long lost box with pictures of long ago travels and journeys you recall like it was just yesterday. Such a sweet release and escape from our everyday lives...

Recently, two little Cairns are embarking on their own travel and journey to freedom, making new, positive memories along their way. Both of their names were donated by one of our members as she was rediscovering some vacation memories one day. Thanks Claire M. for dusting off those old photo albums and deciding to help these two little Cairns be the subject of some new photo albums and memories.

Introducing CP's Vacation Memories:

Dublin - Male, red wheaten with dark ears, estimated to be 5 years old. He's a little shy, but will warm up quickly with a little TLC.

Jumby - Female, golden wheaten with dark ears, estimated to be 6-8 years old, she needs a little help from a weight loss program, but is super sweet and friendly and ready to grab her new found freedom with all 4 paws. She is still available for adoption and she is being fostered in Pennsylvania, you can learn more about here by clicking  here .

Our Name a Cairn Program is a wonderful way to celebrate or remember someone special in your life, but can also be a great way to recall special events like Claire did and still help the little Cairns we all love so much. I would like to thank Claire for her donation, but also thank a couple of rescue angels who are helping to make Jumby and Dublin's first trips possible--Lisa B. and Kim and Donald.

I know Dublin and Jumby are going to enjoy the journey of a lifetime and fill many a photo album on their way to a happily every after. Please help me welcome them to the CP family and wish them a Bon Voyage!

Please welcome Cherianne

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Cherianne came to us as an owner surrender. She's known to be sweet and loving but also loves to dig.

The owner surrendered her to Col. Potter because Cherianne did not get along with the other female alpha in the house. She knew Cherianne needed a home that did not have an alpha, and knew we could give her a better life than she could provide for her.

Please welcome Cherianne to CP. She is one and a half years old and is being fostered in South Carolina. She is available for adoption. You can learn more about her by clicking here.

WELCOME TWO NEW CP FAMILY MEMBERS!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

Two little Cairns have not enjoyed freedom up until they became part of the Col. Potter family. They are older, which is always more heartbreaking, but also endearing that they will finally get to enjoy being a spoiled and pampered Cairn and learn about freedom.

Fate

Fate - Female, wheaten, born 10/16/04 - donated name by Geri P. to thank Kathy and Barney H. for all they do for the furkids

R. J. Fisherman

R. J. Fisherman - Male, dark brindle, born 5/30/02 - donated name by Mary N. in honor and memory of Richard J.

Please give a warm welcome to both Fate and R. J. Fisherman into the CP Family!

WELCOME CP'S CALIFORNIA GIRL!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

Literally millions of dogs are euthanized each and every year at shelters through no fault of their own ... or the shelter's. Ultimately, it is society, ourselves, our friends, neighbors, coworkers, who must take responsibility for the killing of these helpless animals. Simply put, there are too many puppies born each and every year. Some are the result of breeding operations, but many of these puppies are born because people do not spay and neuter their dogs. The end result from the dog overpopulation in this country is overflowing shelters that have very few options and little other choice than to euthanize large amounts of dogs. What's the answer you ask? Education and enactment of pet laws requiring spay/neuter of household pets will help. And remembering when you take a dog into your home, it should be for life ...

Metropolitan areas are especially hard hit with their massive human population which translates into massive dog population. What many people don't realize is that if a dog is picked up as a stray, a shelter is required to hold them for a "stray period" to see if their owner comes looking for them. However, if an owner voluntarily surrenders a dog to a shelter, they do not have to hold that dog at all. It can be immediately euthanized. So, when a shelter is pressed for space, what do you think happens to the owner surrender dogs???

Meet Thalia, a little girl, who was surrendered to a shelter in Southern California because they didn't have time for her. From the looks of her, she hasn't been well cared for in quite awhile. Knowing that with the way she looks and being very shy and frightened at the shelter, they didn't even schedule her for a spay appointment which meant certain death for her. Luckily, CP has ONE rescue angel in S. CA -- Charlene M. -- who once again spent an entire day driving to this shelter yesterday to save Thalia in the nick of time.

I cannot reiterate enough times how CP cannot rescue these precious furkids if we don't have volunteers to help! Don't think that someone else will do it, don't think the furkid will be safe, don't think the furkid will be rescued ... there is no coming back from death ... PLEASE be pro-active, PLEASE be willing to help if possible when asked whether it be help with an intake, Home Safety Visit, transport or volunteering to be an active member of a CP working team.

Thalia would be dead today if not for Charlene M ... Make a difference in a Cairn's life - GET INVOLVED!

Welcome Thalia to the CP family ... we're glad you are one of the lucky ones ...

Cheerwine joins CP!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Cheerwine is a 3-4 year old, 18lb sweet girl that found herself in a high kill shelter in North Carolina. During her stay there, she was put into caged runs with both large and small dogs. This didn’t phase her at all. Cheerwine hasn't met a dog or person she didn’t get along with!

During her time at the shelter Col. Potter received several pleas to help this little bundle of joy. When her hold time was up, CP was able to pull her and get her to a vet. Cheerwine has continued to impress the vet staff; she is indeed a sweet wonderful loving girl.

Let’s all give a big CP welcome to Cheerwine.
