Lovemuffin is Now on the Menu at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Lovemuffin, a tiny 6 pound, 3 year old Black Brindle Male

Col. Potter was contacted by a shelter regarding a very sweet and friendly 3 year old Black Brindle Cairn with a very big problem.  Apparently, Lovemuffin must have crawled out under a fence without enough clearance, resulting in a painful wound all the way down his spine.  While the shelter cleaned the wound and provided antibiotics, they sought CP's urgent assistance so that this boy would receive proper veterinary care.  Within an hour, CP made arrangements to collect Lovemuffin and get him to the vet!  While under anesthesia, Lovemuffin's wound was debrided and a laser treatment was administered to boost healing.  It will take time and care, but Lovemuffin's wound should heal nicely.

Lovemuffin is now at his Foster Home where he will recuperate and gain some much needed weight.  This small boned Cairn will add a few pounds to his current 6 lb weight.  Despite all the turmoil in this boy's life, and the obvious pain from his wound, both the shelter and veterinary staff reported that Lovemuffin was active, friendly, and very loving.  All felt he was perfectly named!

Thank you Cindy M. for donating to Col.Potter’s Name a Rescue Cairn Program in memory of Donald S.  Cindy requested that the name be chosen by his wife, Kim, who chose the best term of endearment she and Donald shared – “Lovemuffin”.

Lovemuffin has a painful racing stripe, apparently earned during his escape

Darleigh Looks Ahead with Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Darleigh, a loyal 3 year old Black Brindle Male

Please join us in giving a hearty CP Welcome to our new, handsome, Black Brindle Cairn boy, Darleigh!

The story of Darleigh is a story about a dog and his man.  In this true-life story, both Darleigh and his beloved man were dealt a rough hand this time around, and Col. Potter was called in to help ease the situation a little bit for both of them.

The man has to undergo life-changing surgery in a few weeks, and he feels that he just won’t be able to take care of Darleigh in the way he needs to be taken care of.  And that’s because Darleigh, a young 3-year old Cairn boy, has been having unexplained seizures.

The man told us that once he undergoes this surgery, he won’t be able to get down and sit on the floor with Darleigh and comfort him and tell him that things will be “okay” when Darleigh has one of his seizures. He wants to make sure that someone else will be able to be there for his dog.

Darleigh’s dad also warned us that Darleigh does not like people on bicycles at all!  He explained that by suggesting that when the two of them were watching  The Wizard of Oz together—“it was…the part where that nasty lady takes Toto in the basket on the bike.  Maybe it’s his way of getting back at people that are mean to his kin?”

Meanwhile, nobody knows quite what’s wrong with him yet, but Darleigh is in a wonderful CP Foster Home now with very savvy people who have a lot of experience with dogs like Darleigh.  Although Darleigh will never forget his first dad, we are sure he will soon be ready to adopt another lucky person and give his loving heart away again.

Please welcome this brave boy to the Col. Potter family!
