CP Leilani nka Lily Blossoms in Forever!

Written by Lily fka CP Leilani on her 2 Month Gotcha Day!

Lily fka CP Leilani is sitting pretty in her new home!

“Miss Lily!  What do you think you’re doing?”  Do you know how many times my New Mom said that the first two weeks I was here?  Actually, I wasn’t that bad!  I had to try and do things my way – I am, after all, a Cairn Princess!

This New Mom was a real challenge, however.  She didn’t let me get away with much of anything – even when I gave her my cutest look!  I guess I can’t complain, though, because every day I feel more and more secure with this New Mom!  I’ve been bounced around quite a lot in my short life, so a little piece of me doesn’t want to let down my guard, but this New Mom is just worming her way into my heart, and when I look in her eyes I know what I am seeing is True Love!

Lily loves to hang out with her new brother Hershey

Just to make things even better, this New Mom came with a New Brother!  Hershey is quite handsome and a real character!  He let me watch the street from his special perch, and he even let me take over the barking duty whenever there is an invasion happening from outside.  We play and play, in the house and out in our nice fenced yard – until I want to stop – and then Hershey hangs around my crate when I am resting, guarding me, I think.  I am not sure if he thinks I need protection or, like our Mom says, he wants to make sure I don’t go anywhere!

Need some help with that camera, Mom?
Lily loves sitting by the window – but also loves treats!
OK, Mom?  Can I take it off now?

It seems hard to believe that it has only been three months since that nice lady from Col. Potter saw how much I needed help and pulled out the stops to get me on a transport to my Foster Home.  Now, I have been with Hershey and my New Mom for two full months, but it seems sometimes like I was always here – or always meant to be here!  Oops!  There goes my guard again!  Sigh…  What a nice thing to even start to believe that I might be Home Forever!

Back to the window with Hershey!  Got work to do!

Thank you to all the Volunteers at Col. Potter for caring enough to give me this great new leash on life!

Ruby's (fka Prim) 3rd Gotcha Day!

Written by Ruby's Mom

Ruby fka CP Prim is now a Big Sister!

Today we celebrated Ruby's (fka CP Prim) 3rd Gotcha Day!  What a year it has been!  Ruby had a big change in her life this year - she became a big sister!

Our daughter was born in July and Ruby has been the best companion!  She loves to watch us play with the baby, and barks loudly - in typical Cairn fashion - to warn Mommy and Daddy if she hears any noises outside.  The baby must have been used to Ruby's barks from inside my belly, because they don't bother her at all!

Ruby meets her New Baby Sister on her 1st day Home

Ruby has been so loving to her new sister, giving her kisses on her hand, and sometimes even her cheek.  Sometimes she is sneaky and steals a pacifier, but that's just her way of saying that she wants to play.  I have a feeling these two are going to be best buddies!  We can't wait to see our daughter grow up with "the best little pal in the world" by her side.

Ruby is still getting two insulin injections daily for her diabetes, but you'd never know it. She is as spunky and playful as ever.   Thank you, CP, for three wonderful years with Ruby!  We love her so much!

Wiggles Delivers 5 years of Forever Moments!

Written by Wiggles fka CP Erin Renee

Wiggles fka CP Erin Renee doing QA for the grandkids

Hello there!  Little Miss Wiggles here!  I have been with my Forever Family now for Five years!  Five!  Ever since I was a little 10 month old baby!  My Mom is always talking about me like I’m some kind of wild hooligan (like Tigger and Harv are just “perfect”!), so I thought you might like to get the scoop from my perspective…

This is my yard, and I’d love for you to come and play!

I am, after all, a Cairn – all 11.5 lbs. of me!  I love to play with everyone and everything!  I love to outsmart Mom and Dad whenever I get the opportunity (See: Not sneaky; just Smart!... Hehehehehe…).  I love to let people know what I am thinking – and I will talk ‘till the cows come home – whatever that means!  I can also be every bit as deaf as the next Cairn when it comes to taking instruction from Mom and Dad.  I am, after all, a Cairn!

See?  I am very good when playing with the grandkids!

Now, of course, I shower Mom and Dad with kisses, and, just for them, I wiggle my whole back end continually while my tail wags a mile a minute.  I mean, they named me “Wiggles” so I guess this means a lot to them!

I love everyone I meet, and I adore all of the grandkids!  Mom and Dad often Foster other Cairns in need, so I play a big role helping them, working hard to teach them how to play tug with the toys, and definitely how to play zoomies around the yard and house.  Important skills for every Cairn!

I also do QA for the Fosters…
…Got to make sure these rope toys are up to snuff!
So, Mom can say what she wants, the truth is that I am genuinely affectionate, truly loving, and the Cutest Darn Cairn ever!  I am also very happy to have had the opportunity, for each day of these past five years, to wiggle into my Mom and Dad’s laps whenever they sit down – and I plan to keep on doing it!

Mr. Petey & Miss Bessie Celebrate 2nd Gotcha Days!

Written by Petey fka CP Frisbee

Petey fka CP Frisbee and Bessie fka CP Besame

Hello there!  Petey here!  You knew me as CP Frisbee – a good name since I love to run and play – but Petey is a better name because my Mom and Dad picked it out for me!

I love to keep an eye on things…

Dad says I always have something to say, so I thought I would talk with my Col. Potter friends for a spell!  You know, I have been here with Mom and Dad for a Whole Two Years now!   Well, guess what?  Bessie – you knew her as CP Besame – she’s my sister and she will Also be here two whole years on November 27th!

…and I have lots of places to perch…
…even in the car!

Now, I love to talk and I make sure I have a nice conversation with Mom and Dad in the mornings and then again when Dad gets home from work, but Bessie does her share!  Mom and Dad call her “Wookie” because she talks like some Star Wars character – whatever that means!  What do we talk about?   Well, what don’t we talk about!   We have so many things that we might have seen on our walks or in the backyard, and then there are so many wonderful dreams to share in the morning!

Bessie likes to look from Mom’s arms!

Bessie was very shy when she first came here, preferring to stay in her crate all the time.  Well, Mom and Dad finally closed the crate when they were home and Bessie learned that it was not so bad to join me in the same room with Mom and Dad.  Now she will actually let Dad pick her up and hold her for a few minutes!

A major breakthrough occurred several weeks ago when she fell asleep on Dad’s lap and stayed there for nearly half an hour.  It seems like a small thing, but Mom and Dad were very happy when it happened!  She is also learning from me that begging for treats is a Good thing!  She is not hiding anymore when Mom and Dad have guests at the house, and she is happy snuggling with us all in the morning, up on the bed.  I am very proud of my sister Bessie, and really happy that she is getting bolder and developing her own sense of Cairnitude.  Makes play time all the better!

Of course, I am a real lover, more than anything.  My favorite activity (outside of eating) is giving kisses – and I would do it for hours on end if Mom and Dad let me!

OK!  Enough talking!  Let’s play!!!

Bessie and I want to thank everyone at Col. Potter for keeping us safe two years ago and helping us both find the best Mom and Dad ever – Forever!

Col. Potter Celebrates a Beautiful Anniversary!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Anniversary, a Beautiful 3 year old, Light Wheaten Female

For too many people, the economy is not improving and countless families are not doing better than they were a couple of years ago, as evidenced by the story of this little girl.

Her family lost their home and the rental unit they were moving into had a pet deposit that they simply could not afford.  They had to choose between food for their family or a pet deposit.  Time was drawing dangerously close to the point that this little girl had to find a new home when CP learned of her plight.  This past weekend her time was up, and she had to go - one way or the other.

Generally couples that are celebrating 39 years of marriage like to spend the day together doing things they enjoy and reminiscing about their life together.  CP has one such special couple -- Kathy and Barney H.  This past Saturday, Kathy and Barney celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary by first driving the initial leg of our True Love couple, and then, when this little girl became urgent, they immediately packed up the van and headed off for the SIX hour round trip to collect her.  Best part is, they said, they were together and doing what they both love:  Helping the Cairns!

Anniversary is housebroken, friendly, and good with children!

Please help us welcome #4369 “Anniversary”, a 3 year old, Light Wheaten beauty who is housebroken, friendly, and good with kids.

OK, the line forms to my left for this little one!
