Kody’s First Christmas!!!

Written by Kody fka CP IC

This is me, Kody fka CP IC, reading my Special Christmas card!

It’s me: Kody again!   Remember how I told you before that this was going to be my very first Christmas?  Well, my Mom and Dad had some relatives I never met before come to our home for Christmas and Boy, did I have fun!

My new Uncle especially loved playing with me outside.  I kept him pretty busy!  Then, we came back inside and got to open Presents!  Besides the box full of toys that Col. Potter had sent me earlier, and treats and toys that Santa left for me, I got this neat package in the mail from my feline cousins.  In it was this cute Christmas card, and I sat there and read the whole thing!  It said:

“Merry Christmas - Your First of Many!  Welcome to the family of four-legged angels!  As your servants (you call them Mom & Dad) have sent us so many goodies over the years, we instructed our servants to do the same for such a princely young boy named Kody.  You really should wait ‘til Christmas to open, but that's only by human rules.  As you already know, dogs and cats don't have rules - just fun!  Again a very Merry Christmas &  Happy New Year!  Love, Yancey, Lily, Molly and Suzy!”

Look at my special Christmas tin!

In my package was this cute Christmas dog tin.  That was pretty special, but inside, there was an Elf hat, a small stuffed football. and lots of goodies to eat!   Mom said I looked adorable in my Elf hat…   What do you think?

Tell me the truth:  Do I look adorable???

Mom and Dad and the rest of my new family certainly made my first Christmas a memorable one!  It is Great to be Loved!  Thank you Col. Potter for giving me my Forever Home and Happy New Year to all!

CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY PLANT WARNINGS FOR PETS!

Written by a CP Volunteer

Flowers and plants add beauty to any holiday, and they make great holiday gifts. But if your family includes pets, you may want to learn which plants are safe and which ones you need to avoid.

The last thing you need on this busy holiday is an unexpected visit to the local veterinary hospital for an unexpected emergency. So today, I want to remind you a little about common holiday plants that can cause problems.

Here are some of the most common holiday plants to avoid. Remember that ingesting bulb plants often cause the most severe illnesses.

• Holly (Ilex sp.)

This plant, commonly found around Christmas time, can cause intense vomiting and diarrhea. Mental depression can also occur.

• Amaryllis (Amaryllis spp)

Ingestion can result in vomiting, diarrhea, depression, lack of appetite, tremors, drooling and abdominal pain.

• Mistletoe (Phoradendron spp.)

This plant, another Christmas plant, can also cause significant vomiting and diarrhea. In addition, this plant has been associated with difficulty breathing, slowed heart rate, collapse and, if a lot is ingested, death has occurred. Some animals may even show erratic behavior and possible hallucinations.

• Poinsettia (Euphorbia)

This plant can cause irritation to the mouth and stomach and sometimes vomiting. It has a low level of toxicity and is overrated as a toxic plant. Many people consider it basically non-toxic.

• Christmas cactus, Thanksgiving cactus, Easter cactus (Schlumbergera or Zygocactus)

In dogs, if large quantities of this plant are ingested, vomiting, possibly with blood, diarrhea, possibly with blood and mental depression have been reported. With small ingestions, typically there are no signs of toxicity. These plants are considered low toxicity plants.

If you bring plants into your home, make sure they are in a location inaccessible by your dog. They can all cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset if ingested. After all, we certainly don't need any trips to the emergency clinic and unexpected medical expenses this time of year!

Willet's Christmas Tail

Written by a CP adoptive home

I wanted to let you know about my first Santa Delivery job with the big man himself – Santa Claus or as I like to call him Santa Paws.

I have been waiting for the big day and it has finally arrived. I woke up and had to get a bath – which I love! You know I had to look good for the kiddies and to impress Santa Paws.

I had to get my red sweater on (just like Santa Paws) and my bell collar so the kids would know when we arrived.

We went to the North Pole and to my amazement there was a lot of hustle and bustle going on.

I didn’t know so many elves worked there. They were filling up the sleighs, helping Santa get dressed, passing out hot chocolate and candy canes to everyone. They even had special Christmas dog cookies for me. Yummy!

I had to meet Santa Paws. Well this is very difficult because there was so much work that there were multiple Santa Paws. Who knew?

hmmm

is it him?

nice lap!

I sat on every Santa Paws lap and picked the best one to team up with.

I got to meet a bunch of guys that a lot of people tell me they are scary but, I had fun with them and I wasn’t scared at all. They all had cookies in their pockets. Imagine that! My mom and dad told me that they are named policemen and they are there to help Santa Paws, myself and everyone to be safe.

At 2:00 pm we started driving from house to house and I ran up to each door and announced that “Santa Paws will be here in 5 minutes”. The people were so excited they would start screaming and jumping up and down (at first that scared me) but my mom and dad told me it was to be expected. Santa would then show up and the kids would come out and sit on Santa’s lap (just like I did earlier) and they would talk to Santa and get gifts from him. What a nice man.

I had to check on Santa sometimes through my window to make sure he was not eating all the cookies. He tends to do that!

Around 6:00 pm my job finally finished after our 32nd stop and I can tell you I was exhausted!!!!

I gave Santa a big lick to thank him for letting me help and he said:

HO! HO! HO!
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!
