Many people live their lives based on astrology. They will only do certain things, try new things, travel, etc. based on what their astrological sign tells them. I don't believe in astrology myself, but I have to admit, there must have been something aligning the stars and somehow protecting and guiding one little Cairn boy back to Col. Potter.
Not every adoption of an animal from a rescue, any rescue, works out, for various reasons. Many don't work out because no matter how much information, detail and explanations you can give a prospective adoptive home, nothing really compares with actually having that furkid in their home. We all try to screen prospective adoptive homes with a fine tooth comb, but still some adoptions just don't work out. Just about every rescue organization out there has a clause in their adoption contract if the adoption does not work out, for any reason, to contact them. Col. Potter is no exception.
My message is a very simple, but important one--if you adopt from rescue, any rescue, and you cannot keep your animal, for any reason, please be sure to contact the rescue you adopted from for help. Please don't turn them into a shelter.
This little guy just got lucky that he was still wearing his CP ID tag and a careful shelter worker took notice and called or who knows what could have happened to him. He'd been in his adoptive home for less than 8 months and you can see what can happen when a home really doesn't understand what the commitment and responsibilities are for taking on an animal. PLEASE don't post negative messages about the adoptive home. That's not what this is about. This is about education and reinforcement to always contact the rescue you adopted from if there are any issues at all so they can help. And most importantly, it's about the animals, always about the animals.
And now, it gives me great pleasure to introduce Zodiac, a 6 year old male whose travels through the astrological galaxies have brought him back through Col. Potter's orbit until the stars align perfectly to find his happily ever after. We're so happy to have you back with us little Zodiac!

A lucky girl joins CP!
Written by CP's VP of Intakes
Sometimes it takes a little longer for some furkids to find their way into the loving arms of Col. Potter. Sometimes love just isn't enough when a family's circumstances change and they find themselves in an emergency situation and need Col. Potter to step in immediately. That's what happened to this little girl and how her life has been intertwined with CP for the past few years.
It all started a couple of years ago when a neighbor of Kathy and Barney's answered an ad for a free female Cairn. They had seen Kathy and Barney's pack in the yard and thought they were neat little dogs. They didn't have this little girl home two minutes when she yanked her leash out of their hands and was off to the races. Immediately Kathy and Barney jumped in to help and luckily she was caught and returned to the family. Over the next couple of years, Kathy and Barney mentored the family and beat the drum to get her spayed in their efforts to keep this little girl safe, always offering CP's help if needed.
The family was unexpectedly asked to move out of their rental home a week ago and could only find a different rental to fit their needs that would not allow dogs. Then this weekend it became urgent that they find somewhere for her to go within 24 hours or they would be forced to take her to the shelter today. Yesterday this little girl said a sad good-bye to her former family and joined the CP family.
Please help me welcome Besame, meaning "kiss me" in Spanish. Sometimes it's our volunteers who make the difference in a little Cairn's life and that certainly was the case for Besame!

Please Welcome Fritz
Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

This handsome little boy has had a rough year so far. A few months ago, he somehow landed in a shelter. Fortunately for him, he was quickly adopted by a family looking for a young playmate for their resident dog. However, when the owner found out he was quite a bit older than the shelter estimated him to be and discovered that Fritz didn’t seem at all interested in playing with the resident dog, the owner contacted us to see if we could take him and find him a new home.
Fritz is estimated to be 6-8 years old, housebroken, loves men, and is just an easy going little guy.
He arrived at his foster home on Mother's Day– a special treat for all involved. This was foster mom’s reply when asked about his arrival date...."How perfect...Mothers Day. I will get a new furbaby and he will get a new foster mom!"

Clooney snuggles into CP
Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Picture this – one sunny afternoon 2 little cairns go to the dog park with their mom for a little fun. While at the park mom asks another dog family if they could take the 2 cairns and find them a new home. If not, she would have to take them to the local shelter. The compassionate, animal-loving family takes the 2 cairns and quickly finds a home for one. But after several months, they hadn’t found a home for Clooney and contacted us for help.
Clooney is 7 years old and is reportedly a pretty calm little guy. He is a snuggler, good with other dogs and children, likes taking walks and traveling in the car – AND…… he still enjoys going to the dog park!
Welcome Clooney! We’ll find you a new forever family!

Miss Amelia joins CP!
Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please help welcome Col. Potter's new girl, Miss Amelia. This sweet girl has been through a lot in the past month. Surrendered to a shelter by her owners, then transferred to a Humane Society. She was adopted out, but then returned three days later due to "separation anxiety". The Humane Society saw her stress level at the shelter and thought it best that she get out as soon as possible. Her barking and complaining in her kennel was not making the best impression to potential adopters! "Ordinary folk" don't always understand that terriers like to talk!
Now in the loving hands of CP, she is super friendly and loving, wants attention and belly rubs. Miss Amelia now has a chance to work on any issues she may have and gain some confidence while in Foster Care. CP comes through once again for a cairn whose chances were just about over! Thanks CP!

Welcome Mere to CP!
Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Mere is a tiny bundle of kisses that came from shelter that has no funding and no support. Her coat was filled with mats, feces, urine and dirt. Her teeth were literally rotting in her mouth and falling out on their own. At 8.5lbs, Mere’s weight is half of what it should be; she was literally starving to death.
Thanks to Col. Potter this little angel will have the chance to live the life she should have had all along...that of a cairn princess. Please give a huge CP welcome to Mere, our newest intake!
