Hamish Gets a Hand Up at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Hamish, a sweet and compact 9 year old Black Brindle Male

Please give a warm welcome to Col. Potter’s new little Cairn boy!  Hamish had a family and then he suddenly didn’t because they moved to a place where dogs weren’t allowed.

We have definitely heard this sad story before.  He was very lucky, however, because the shelter he was taken to had a nice lady that helped out by taking the small dogs and finding Foster homes and/or permanent homes for them.  She was very kind to Hamish, but did not have anyone interested in taking him - until Col. Potter came along!!!

Our own Monika R. picked up this little fella’ and reported he is “one sweet little boy who loves to give kisses.”  Hamish is 9 years young and only weighs in at 12 pounds.  Couldn’t you just hold this little one tight and give him some kisses?  Without a doubt, in no time at all, Hamish will have his Forever-ever Home!

A very heartfelt “Thank You” to Christine D. for giving Hamish his name through our Name a Rescue Cairn Program with a donation in memory of their precious boy, Hamish, who they sadly lost in 2013 at the wonderful age of 15.

Welcome Hamish!!

Keets Finds a New World at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Keets, a sweet, friendly, and very lucky 2 year old Wheaten Female

Once again, Col. Potter comes to the rescue!

CP's Rescue Team searches far and wide for Cairns in need.  When the team learns that a Cairn life is at risk, the search shifts to volunteers who can help rescue the Cairn from danger.  CP's newest little girl landed in a shelter where many dogs are immediately placed on death row after their reclaim period ends.  While they may officially be considered “adoptable”, their lives are dependent upon how much space is available at the shelter.

Keets had just three days - total - for her owner to find and reclaim her.  The shelter was full, so she was immediately at risk.  A wonderful CP volunteer, Jamie D., learned of Keets' plight on the eve of her last day.  The following morning Jamie drove straight to the shelter and welcomed Keets to the CP family.  Jamie confirmed the reports that Keets is a very sweet and friendly Wheaten girl.  Keets is estimated to be just 2 years old and weighs in at just under 14 lbs.  She is currently enjoying a spa week which will include a much needed grooming.

A big thank you to new CP volunteer, Terry W, who volunteered to drive through challenging traffic to collect Keets and get her on her way to her Foster home.  The name Keets was the nickname for a much loved CP Cairn named Kitsune.  CP rescued Kitsune from a puppy mill at just 9 months old and he was adopted by Jamie D.  This very happy Cairn lived life to the fullest.  He loved exploring and his adventures included living in numerous cities across America, and even some time in Peru.  Thanks to Jamie's help, another CP Cairn has had the world opened to her!

Wolfie Warms Up with Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Wolfie, a Sweet, 3- 4 year old Black Brindle Male

Much of the country is being blanketed by snow and ice this week, bone chilling temperatures, and frigid wind chills.  This is truly weather "not fit for man nor beast" and especially not a little lost Cairn!  Luckily for this boy, some caring people brought him in, out of the weather, and tried to find his family.  Having no success, yet knowing that sometimes shelters aren't the best option for a lost dog, these kind people turned to other people they knew worked Rescue - and they just happen to be a Col. Potter foster home.  Becky and Reed contacted Intakes with the details of this little one's story and asked if CP had room to keep him safe and out of the cold.

Wolfie is now Safe and Warm!

Wolfie is now securely out of the cold, snow, and ice and enjoying the warmth and comfort offered by these wonderful CP Volunteers who will be fostering Wolfie, an approximately 3 – 4 year old Black Brindle male.  He is reported to be a bigger boy, around 20 pounds, and a real sweetheart who loves to cuddle and lean into you for love and snuggling.  Just what is needed for the long, cold Winter nights ahead to help keep you warm!

Please help us Welcome Wolfie to the warmth of Col. Potter!
