Myers Finds a Few New Friends at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Myers, a friendly 8 year old Rescued Cairn-Westie Mix

Respectfully borrowed from “Fiddler on the Roof”

(Col. Potter and an unnamed Rescue group)

"And among ourselves, we get along perfectly well. Of course, there was the time when they told us a Cairn, but delivered a Westie, but that's all settled now. Now we live in simple peace and harmony and..."

(1st Rescuer)
"It was a Cairn!"

(2nd Rescuer)

"It was a Westie!"

(Chorus)
Cairn!
Westie!
Cairn!
Westie!
Tradition, tradition... tradition!

Okay, genug! (enough)

What’s important is that we all give a big hearty Welcome to Myers, the new guy at the Col. Potter table.

CP’s Myers was picked up as a stray by animal control in a major left-coastal city, and he was placed in a high-kill shelter there, where they had no history on him at all.  So, until we saw him in person, no one was quite sure of his pedigree.  But we knew he needed rescue.  Well, as it turns out, Myers is rather Westie-ish with a splash of Cairn.  Hey, nobody’s perfect!  But this dude comes close enough. Myers is about 8-years-old and a strapping 21 lbs.  And according to his new vet, he’s very friendly and grateful for his second chance at a happy life with people who will love him and take care of him.

Myers’ rescue story is actually a very involved one, with lots of intrigue, rumors and false reports.  This darling Westie/Cairn remained on the “list” while we waited to hear confirmation that we could indeed go and fetch him and bring him home.  And at the eleventh hour, we got the go-ahead, and with the outstanding help of Charlene M. and Brenda F., we brought Myers home to our family.

All of our CP volunteers do wonderful, selfless work, and one of the few ways that Col. Potter can honor them is to name a dog after them.  And each time we do, we are honoring all of our good people as well as our namesake volunteer — because, as we know, it takes a village.

If you’d like to volunteer with us, just let us know.  We have many jobs for creative, dedicated people. Just click one of the links below and fill out the application!

And now, let’s please Welcome Myers to the Col. Potter clan, with open hearts and open arms!

Keeva Gives Sweet Kisses at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Keeva, an adorable 10 lb., 1 year old Wheaten Female

Col. Potter's newest little girl, Keeva, is appropriately named.   “Keeva” means “gentleness and beauty” in Gaelic – and just look at Keeva's beautiful brown eyes!   In addition, it has been reported by reliable sources that this little girl loves to snuggle and give the sweetest, gentlest kisses.  Keeva!

Makes it hard to believe that this sweet and petite Wheaten girl was placed on the euthanasia list at a high volume shelter.  How lucky for this little girl that Col. Potter volunteers were able to rescue her that same day!  Keeva is about 1 year old and just under 10 lbs., but she has already had a litter of puppies and, at the time of rescue, she was already back in season.

Keeva has already had puppies at her tender young age

Think about it:  She’s only 1 year old…

Enough of that!  Some nutritious food and TLC will help boost Keeva's weight and she will never be asked to, once again, subject her little body to the rigors of motherhood.

Welcome to the CP family, Keeva!

Thank you to Bill and Charlene M. for devoting a day to rescue Keeva!

Rockford Gets a New Show at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Rockford, a sweet little 3 year old Wheaten Male

For more than five decades, actor James Garner delighted fans with his performances in movies and several television series.  He was a handsome man with a talent for comedy as well as an endearing personality.  Among his notable roles, he played Jim Rockford in the 1970's detective drama.   This weekend, Col. Potter welcomed its own Rockford - a handsome and endearing 3 year old Cairn boy.

Rockford was surrendered to a high volume shelter and was running out of time.  Apparently, this sweet young man had been neglected as he needs to add several pounds to his current 10 lb weight, and he has some hair loss on his back hips from an active flea presence.  The fleas have been eliminated and Rockford has already enjoyed a soothing bath.  He will continue his spa week and join his Foster Home soon.

Please welcome Rockford!

Keets Finds a New World at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Keets, a sweet, friendly, and very lucky 2 year old Wheaten Female

Once again, Col. Potter comes to the rescue!

CP's Rescue Team searches far and wide for Cairns in need.  When the team learns that a Cairn life is at risk, the search shifts to volunteers who can help rescue the Cairn from danger.  CP's newest little girl landed in a shelter where many dogs are immediately placed on death row after their reclaim period ends.  While they may officially be considered “adoptable”, their lives are dependent upon how much space is available at the shelter.

Keets had just three days - total - for her owner to find and reclaim her.  The shelter was full, so she was immediately at risk.  A wonderful CP volunteer, Jamie D., learned of Keets' plight on the eve of her last day.  The following morning Jamie drove straight to the shelter and welcomed Keets to the CP family.  Jamie confirmed the reports that Keets is a very sweet and friendly Wheaten girl.  Keets is estimated to be just 2 years old and weighs in at just under 14 lbs.  She is currently enjoying a spa week which will include a much needed grooming.

A big thank you to new CP volunteer, Terry W, who volunteered to drive through challenging traffic to collect Keets and get her on her way to her Foster home.  The name Keets was the nickname for a much loved CP Cairn named Kitsune.  CP rescued Kitsune from a puppy mill at just 9 months old and he was adopted by Jamie D.  This very happy Cairn lived life to the fullest.  He loved exploring and his adventures included living in numerous cities across America, and even some time in Peru.  Thanks to Jamie's help, another CP Cairn has had the world opened to her!

Waggie Breaks out of Jail thanks to Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Waggie, an Adorable, 6 year old Light Wheaten Male
Please roll out the Welcome Wagon for Waggie, a cute little 6 year old Cairn boy.  He spent a little over 3 weeks at a kill shelter and no one adopted him!  Time was quickly running out, so Col. Potter to the rescue!

A big thank you to Charlene for answering the call (again) and quickly picking him up and delivering him to the vet for his spa treatment.

Waggie is Grateful to be let out of Jail!

Charlene says he is Mr. "Totally Adorable" and that his name really fits -  Waggie is just a happy, tail waggin' kid!

Welcome Waggie!
