Montreal, Winnipeg, and Calgary enjoy more Freedom

Contributed by Vancouver and her puppies' foster mom

It's still rainy and wet here and I needed to do the daily deep clean of the ex-pen, so the kids got to run loose in the LR and kitchen. Foster dad took over watching them after I did the video so I could clean of course. He never volunteers for the dirty work.

Montreal, Winnipeg and Calgary Rainy Day Play

Contributed by Vancouver and her puppies' foster mom

Due to rainy weather here the other day, the puppies could not play outside as usual, so we had play time in the kitchen. Tootsie and Wu joined in also. Poor Wu even gets pushed around by a 2 month old puppy......Winnipeg decided to hump her.

The pups were not afraid at all of the new play surroundings. Nothing seems to bother them. They are not one bit afraid of being face to face with the adult dogs either. I think these kids might rule the roost in their forever homes if not kept in check.

Vancouver and Pups Outdoors

Contributed by Vancouver and her puppies' foster mom

Yesterday the ringworm culture on the puppies came back as negative. As my vet suspected, Vancouver and the puppies did not have ringworm, but a staph infection which was treated with antibiotics. Now that we know for sure Vancouver and the puppies are not contagious, they got to go outside for the first time today. Vancouver is less interested in the outdoors than getting attention. She seems to be very people friendly like many of the other City Slickers.

Vancouver and her puppies at play

Contributed by Vancouver and the puppies' foster mom

Here is mama and the kids playing. Vancouver seems to have a playful streak...at least when she is around her puppies.

Vancouver and Pups Day 1

Written by Vancouver and her puppies' foster mom

They are way too cute! Besides missing toes, the pups are missing part of their tails. It could have been due to frost bite, since these babies were born in Feb. We think Vancouver's missing coat could be that she pulled it out herself to make a nest for her babies.

Observations thus far....
Montreal- largest - boy - outgoing and pushy
Winnipeg- smallest - boy - also has his ears up - sits quietly and watches
Calgary- middle sized - girl - whines for attention
These kids are very close in color at a glance. Montreal does have a little white on his chest. I tried to show how long and thin Vancouver is also.

They just turned 7 weeks. Montreal weighs 2.5 lbs, Calgary 1.45 lbs and Winnipeg 1.4 lbs. Calgary looks much tinier than even Winnipeg. She reminds me of out WuWu who was so much smaller than her sibs. They all are eating well, so I am sure they will grow and gain quickly.

City Slickers 2 Arrive in CP

Written by the CP VP of Intakes

You'll all remember in February we brought in the City Slickers. There were several females that didn't make it in at that time as they were about to whelp or already had puppies to nurse. Well, seven weeks later, three females and, to my surprise, three puppies made it into Col. Potter.

On Thursday, April Fool's Day, you know the day to play tricks on your friends and acquaintances, I receive a phone call from our vet telling me the puppies all have ringworm. Ha Ha, April Fool's Day, I chortle back into the phone. Well, this trick is for real and the probable explanation of how these puppies found their way to CP. Now, don't get me wrong, CP is happy to have these puppies and we will get them all healthy and ready to find their forever family.

Oh Canada ... you haven't been forgotten in this group of City Slickers. And, now may I present the City Slickers II:

Dubuque - born 10/1/01

Milwaukee - born 9/1/04

Vancouver - don't have date of birth yet

Calgary - Female, born 2/28/10 - in addition to ringworm, only three toes on rear paws

Winnipeg - Male, born 2/28/10 - ringworm, three toes on rear paws

Montreal - Male, born 2/28/10

I would like to give a very special THANK YOU to Lori and Mike for once again opening up their home to a mom and her puppies. They are currently in the process of setting up a safe, sterile room for Vancouver and her puppies to live in until the ringworm is gone.

With our current four PM groups; Special Man & Woman, Life Been Berry Berry Good, Spring Weeds and City Slickers II, we have brought 21 cairns from commercial breeding facilities into the loving arms of CP within a 5 day time frame. All of them need full vetting, most have health issues of one sort or another, and they need transport to their foster home.

This does not come cheap. Wouldn't it be GREAT if the A New Leash on Life fundraiser was a sell-out? Heck, let's make it more than a sell-out! Give up that pedicure, that extra coffee, pack a brown bag lunch next week, but let's get these furkids taken care of and get ready for the ones still waiting for their chance at freedom!
