Rockford Gets a New Show at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Rockford, a sweet little 3 year old Wheaten Male

For more than five decades, actor James Garner delighted fans with his performances in movies and several television series.  He was a handsome man with a talent for comedy as well as an endearing personality.  Among his notable roles, he played Jim Rockford in the 1970's detective drama.   This weekend, Col. Potter welcomed its own Rockford - a handsome and endearing 3 year old Cairn boy.

Rockford was surrendered to a high volume shelter and was running out of time.  Apparently, this sweet young man had been neglected as he needs to add several pounds to his current 10 lb weight, and he has some hair loss on his back hips from an active flea presence.  The fleas have been eliminated and Rockford has already enjoyed a soothing bath.  He will continue his spa week and join his Foster Home soon.

Please welcome Rockford!

Lenora Finds Love at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Lenora, a beautiful 1.5 year old Wheaten Female

Lets all give this little Cairn girl a Big Welcome to her new life! Lenora is 1.5 years old and weighs 15.3 pounds.  She was an Owner Surrender to a Shelter, but the Shelter knew she would be better off with a Rescue, so they contacted Col. Potter.  Thanks to all our volunteers and Foster homes, we were able to pull this little girl and bring her into the loving arms of CP where she will start her new life.  She is now having her spa treatment and expecting to arrive at her Foster Mom’s soon!

“Thank You!” Beverly S. who went to the shelter to pick her up, and “Thank You!” Dianne P. for offering to Foster this little sweet girl.

Welcome to the Loving Arms of Col. Potter, Lenora!

Calder Collects Kudos at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Calder, a Classic 7.5 year old Black Brindle Male
A Foster Bedtime Story
Once upon a time there were three little Cairns – Calder, Scottie, and NoName. Three little Black-Brindle brothers who loved to bark and roughhouse and chase stuff a lot.  One day, the grumpy old neighbor said, “That’s it – those ruffians have got to go!”  And the human daddy said, “Okay, that’s it – these ruffians have got to go!”  So he packed their little Cairn bags and dropped the three brothers off at the reform school.  (Some people called it the “SPCA,” but the Cairn brothers knew better.)  And there they stayed, waiting for…  Well, they didn’t know what they were waiting for!

Then one day, very soon, a little boy - who loved to shout and roughhouse and chase stuff a lot - came to the reform school.  He saw one of the brothers, and he swooped up the little No-Name Cairn dog and took him home to a nice safe place where they could play all they wanted without any grumpy old neighbors.
…And then there were only two little brothers.

Then another day, very soon, a nice Rescue lady named Erica came to the shelter and said “Oh look, a Scottie dog!” and she swooped up the Scottie Cairn brother and took him to a nice safe place.  But Erica tossed and turned all night. “What about Calder, the other brother left behind?” she worried.

Erica called Col. Potter and said, “I think that last boy is a Cairn boy and not a Scottie at all - and he needs your help!  He’s a good dog and doesn’t belong in the SPCA.”  So Col. Potter said, “Don’t worry!  We’ll save that last Cairn brother!!” And the volunteer put on her Col. Potter crusader cape, rushed over to the shelter, and swooped up that last Cairn boy, then took Calder to a nice safe place!

And now all three brothers are safe and sound!  However…  naughty little Calder still likes to bark and roughhouse and chase stuff a lot - but that’s the Foster Home’s problem now!
The End

Please give a big CP Welcome to a big personality, the new boy on the block, Calder Cairn, who now has a New Beginning, with Special Thanks to thanks to Erica, Marsha, Dennis, and Nicole!!

Frodo finds Comfort with Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Frodo, a sweet 9 - 10 year old Black Brindle Male
Please give a warm welcome to Col. Potter’s Frodo!

Frodo joins CP after a difficult time in his life.  His beloved elderly owner was no longer able to keep and care for him, so she took him to the shelter, not realizing what kind of troubles an owner surrender Cairn might face in a shelter environment.  Once he was there, and she confided in a dear friend what she had done, and the friend explained why this was not an optimal choice for Frodo.  Of course, his owner was devastated by this news.  Sometimes we just don't know something, until it is too late.

With the help of her friend, she then contacted a volunteer with Col Potter, who sprang into action to see if CP could help.  With many phone calls, emails, faxing, all the details worked out, it was finally arranged that Frodo could be picked up!  Frodo was scared, shaky, and worried, but once out of the shelter, he was much happier.  You can see that smiling face, even crated, safe from the shelter environment.

Frodo is estimated to be 9-10 years old. He's reported to be friendly, happy, and curious.  Frodo is 15 pounds and needs to gain a tiny bit of weight.  He is getting his spa treatment now, and will be looking for that wonderful Foster home and then his Forever home.

Frodo's name is a donated by Christine O, through our Name a Rescue Cairn Program, for a friend of hers who just lost their loving Cairn named Bilbo.  What a wonderful way to remember Bilbo!

Thank you to all involved in saving this boy, and all who educate others about safe options for their beloved companions.  Without education, far too many beloved Cairns end up in situations like Frodo, minus a group like CP stepping in to help.

Welcome, Frodo!! May your life be filled with only joy from here forward!
