Bonita means Beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in the vision of Col Potter, who can see past outer looks and can see beauty in the heart and soul of little ones in need. Today was a blessed day for our newest girl, Bonita. She isn't what you might first think of as 'beautiful' right now, quite the contrary. She's seen hard times, neglect, and not much love. Found as a stray in KS by Animal Control, she was given her stray hold time as required by law - and her time was up at noon today. Due to her condition, there was no way she would be adopted out. If not reclaimed, she would be euthanized.
Enter our very own Kaaren J., who saw her ad in the local paper yesterday, and called to inquire about her. Kaaren was told the story, and got in touch with Intakes right away. Pictures soon followed for confirmation that she was a cairn. Hearts broke upon seeing the pictures. We knew that there was a very limited time frame, and wanted her out so that she would be safe. Intakes gave approval to pull Bonita from the shelter. Kaaren drove over and picked up Bonita.
Kaaren reported the following: Bonita is a 17 lb female who has probably whelped at least once. She panicked when we went to crate her at the shelter so when we got to the vet clinic the tech helped to muzzle her so she could be bathed safely. She got a Malesab bath, a powdering of Gold Bond and was popped into a onesie before going to her kennel there. She had calmed from sheer panic to frightened shaking, but appears to be leash broken to some extent. She is one scared little girl but tolerated the beauty routine well. She is sporting a little red mohawk at the moment, plus patches of red fur here and there so she should be a beauty when she gets her coat back. Bonita will be brought up to date on her vetting and on the road to better health. She will grow out her coat, and from what Kaaren describes, she will be a stunning redhead! Special thanks to Kaaren for helping Bonita today. Thanks to all of you who play a part in helping the neediest ones. Bonita says 'Thanks!'.
Welcome, beautiful one!

Wow! This one is a real heart wrencher. Poor little tyke. But she's standing and she's pouring out her heart to anyone who will smile and give her some hope. You all are doing amazing work. Thank you.
