Lexi - Puppy Tummies and Update - Written By Their Foster Mom

Lexington's puppies are growing like little pigs! Monday night Martha was at 9 1/4 oz, Percy 8 5/8 oz, Tory 7 3/8 oz and Betsy 7 3/4 oz. Betsy is already showing the most attitude and complains when picked up and puts up quite a fight when her toenails are trimmed.

Lexington is doing well and has relaxed into her job as Mom. She seems to be a very smart girl and understands exactly what I am doing after we do it once, and that I am helping her.

All the puppies are doing great and putting on weight. They still have a long way to go before they are as big as their puppy toys in the pictures!

Lexington And Her Babies - Day 4

Lexington and the puppies went to see the doctor. The trip was far from peaceful. The puppies let it be known that they were not happy being in a separate crate from mama Lexi. No shortage of lung power here.

The puppies had their dew claws removed and Lexi was checked over due to no appetite. A slight infection in the drainage she is having after whelping seems to the problem and she is now on an antibiotic and already feeling better and eating a little more.

The puppies are eating like little pigs now. Tory the smallest is up to 5 ounces. Martha does not want her weight revealed! All are active and doing great!

A Lexington and Family Update From Her Foster Mom

Lexington is starting to relax a bit and the puppies are having a much easier time nursing with less help from me. They are all quite active and seem to doing well. I will be checking their weights a little later to make sure everyone is getting enough to eat. Three of the puppies are reddish brown and the fourth, one of the littlest girls, has a more blackish coloring.

It is with great sadness that we report that Lexington's littlest boy, Hancock, is now a Col. Potter Angel. This boy was a true revolutionary and put up a valiant fight, but the odds against him were just too great.

Please light a candle for his journey to the Bridge where he will meet his cousins Truitt and Trenton to play and run free.

The babies have been named and we have a picture! CPCRN is very happy to introduce Martha weighing in at 4 5/8 ounces, Tory at 4 ounces, Betsy at 4 ounces and the two guys, Percy at 4 3/8 ounces and Hancock at 3 ounces and, of course, the proud Mom Lexington!

Lexington Is A Mommy!

Lexington, one of the American Revolutionaries, become a Mom this morning! She had two puppies by 2:30 am and finally finished at 8:30 am with 5 puppies in all.

There are 3 girls and 2 boys. The largest, who is a girl, was 4.7 ounces and the smallest is a boy at 3-1/8 ounces. He had a tough time and could use some good thoughts and prayers that he can gain strength and continue to thrive. Check back for updates on the new babies born into freedom.

We Have PUPPIES!

Burke, one of the American Revolutionaries, delivered 3 boys and 2 girls into FREEDOM!

Can you see the smile on Burke's face?? Can you imagine how different she felt delivering babies where there is love instead of greed??

Every time we (CPCRN) have a puppy mill mamma birth, I am steeped in realizing what it must be like for the mamma to have puppies in such changed circumstances.

She's not alone; she has someone like Lori or Karen hovering, doting, checking, letting her know she's not alone and is special.

Not having to worry about one of her babies getting caught in the wire floor, or someone else stepping on them.

Being warm or cool, having water and milk to drink, food to eat, someone to take her outside to relieve herself and being able to walk around.

Having her babies by her side and having enough to eat and drink so that the babies are taken care of as well as herself.

Having someone help her stay clean, help keep her babies clean, and help feed her babies as they grow.

Being able to stay with her babies until they are ready to leave their mom, teaching them so many social skills. (Well, as many as she knows, poor baby herself).

Having a safe place to leave her babies so she can get out and stretch her legs - and later, so she can escape for a few darned minutes.

Having a helper that will step in and feed the babies when she can no longer supply everything they need, knowing it will be good food for the babies.

Being around your babies long enough to say a joyful 'Goodbye!' to them as they leave for their forever homes.

Thank you so much to the primary caregivers and to those with the wisdom to help the whelpers through this; and thank you Danielle and Col Potter for making this possible. I rejoice in every rescued Cairn, but in the pregger mammas most of all. Their freedom is multiplied many times over.

Pictures of the American Revolutionaries

CPCRN recently introduced a new class of recruits. Below are the first photos of the American Revolutionaries. Soon those sad faces will be replaced with happy smiles in the loving care of CP and their foster homes.

Welcome the American Revolutionaries!

On April 19, 1775, a shot was fired that was heard 'round the world. It was the beginning of the American Revolution. On this same date, in 2008, Col. Potter with the help of Deb and Jim fought for the freedom of 7 Cairns from oppression and won their right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." To honor those original freedom fighters, who played key roles in the Battles of Lexington and Concord; our new Col. Potter recruits are thus named:

LEXINGTON - 2 yr old female
BURKE - 2 yr old female
LAURIE - 2 yr old female
ADAIR - 5 yr old female
BOSTON - 3 month old male wheaten
BARRETT - 3 month old male red wheaten
REVERE - 7 yr old male

Deb and Jim not only spent a long grueling day winning these kids freedom, but also came up with this perfect theme and names for these kids. Thank you Deb and Jim!

There are many more Cairns that need our help right now, but unless we have more foster homes, we will have to turn them away. Besides these mill kids and others like them, we have owner surrenders and Cairns in danger at kill shelters. Saying no to a Cairn in danger is one of the hardest parts of doing Intakes and breaks our heart, but without foster homes, we can't help them. Please consider fostering, so we don't have to turn any away.
