What's One More? Welcome Nightcap!

You all remember our 26 furkids - the Cheers to Col. Potter group - who reached freedom two weeks ago with the help of some special people from one of our wonderful vets. Well, when I got the call there was a little girl in the same area that was being offered her chance at freedom, they found room for one more at the vet clinic. Even though she's not part of the Cheers to Col. Potter Kids, she's been bunking with them and the vet staff thought she was a fitting ending, a finale to our Cheers and should have a name to match. So, they came up with Nightcap, the last one ... well at least for a little while.

Nightcap is a beautiful little girl estimated to be 2 years old. She's a red wheaten who is very shy and frightened, but I know with lots of love and patience in her foster home, she will soon be showing that she is a true Cairn.

And so, here's to Nightcap who made it #27 that our wonderful vet is helping us with this month ... CHEERS and WELCOME!

We Celebrate Freedom!

Freedom

Born into bondage in a country that all are meant to be free,

Kept in a small prison always under lock and key.

We go hungry and thirsty, we are filthy and ailing,

There is no one who hears our cries of sorrow and wailing.




We know no kindness we have only known fear,

Our struggle to survive goes on year after year.

We are one of God’s creatures in this country of red white and blue,

Our freedom from this hell has been long overdue.




But then a day comes when freedom rings clear,

There are people who have come and they whisper they care.

They open the cages and into their arms we feel freedom at last,

No longer will we live our lives in the past.




So now we run free we run proud and run far from where we came,

Our troubles are long gone and we have been given a name.

Freedom has finally come for those of us who have been spared,

We have been given love and respect we been given someone who cares.




We hope that someday freedom will ring for all creatures the same,

So this great country we live in will see that none will have to remain.

God bless America home of the free and home of the brave,

And God help the angels that make sure that there will be more they can save.

Welcome the Easter Eggs!

Easter eggs are specially decorated eggs given to celebrate the Easter holiday or springtime. The egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the earth in Pagan celebrations of spring and was later adopted by early Christians.

Yesterday was the lucky day for three kids looking for their chance at rebirth. Looking for a soft place to lay their heads, for a friend to cozy up with for their naps. They are hoping to find out about living in a home, wrestling and playing, and being a constant companion to their family members. They came from a breeding situation, and they are done with that life forever. In their rebirth, the only thing asked of them is to love and be loved.

These three are doubly lucky. They are part of the "Name a Puppy Mill Kid Program", where you can donate to name a PM kid in memory or honor of someone, or just because. All three of these cairns will hold a very special place in the hearts of those who through their donation chose their new Col. Potter names.

Please meet:

Delight - Delight was named in memory of Shaggy, so named because one of the descriptions of a Cairn Terrier was "short Shaggy Scottish terrier" and she was a delight to have. Name donated by Pam & Bill E.



Saiorse - Saiorse - pronounced Seersha - was named in Honor of Aunt Fran. Saiorse is Irish Gaelic meaning Freedom. Name donated by JoAnn & Jim M.



Lord Randall Taylor - Randy was named for our rescue dog that was shown by a shelter at a local Lord and Taylor. Name donated by Carolyn & Carmen C.



These three kids are all estimated to be between four and six years old. They are in the loving arms of Col Potter now, ready for their new beginning.

Lexington Is A Mommy!

Lexington, one of the American Revolutionaries, become a Mom this morning! She had two puppies by 2:30 am and finally finished at 8:30 am with 5 puppies in all.

There are 3 girls and 2 boys. The largest, who is a girl, was 4.7 ounces and the smallest is a boy at 3-1/8 ounces. He had a tough time and could use some good thoughts and prayers that he can gain strength and continue to thrive. Check back for updates on the new babies born into freedom.

Happy Mother's Day

Col. Potter presents our Mother’s Day Tribute, which not only honors our Canine Mothers, but those who have opened their hearts and fostered or adopted a rescue, and those that have worked tirelessly to help save just one more. This video celebrates motherhood, where Mothers have their VERY LAST litter in warmth and safety and the puppies are born into FREEDOM!

Applause For "Gone With The Wind"

Margaret Mitchell, the author of the great American classic, “Gone With The Wind”, won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature on May 3, 1937. Seventy nine years later, six little Cairns won the Col. Potter Prize for FREEDOM. Much like the story of “Gone With The Wind” and the hardships the characters endured during the Civil War, the final words of the movie ring so true "After all, tomorrow is another day". Another day is today and it is the start of a new life for these precious furkids. Introducing the “Gone With The Wind” Characters:

These furkids are being boarded and vetted this week, but will be ready to move to foster homes this coming weekend, just in time for Mother's Day. We Have PUPPIES!

Burke, one of the American Revolutionaries, delivered 3 boys and 2 girls into FREEDOM!

Can you see the smile on Burke's face?? Can you imagine how different she felt delivering babies where there is love instead of greed??

Every time we (CPCRN) have a puppy mill mamma birth, I am steeped in realizing what it must be like for the mamma to have puppies in such changed circumstances.

She's not alone; she has someone like Lori or Karen hovering, doting, checking, letting her know she's not alone and is special.

Not having to worry about one of her babies getting caught in the wire floor, or someone else stepping on them.

Being warm or cool, having water and milk to drink, food to eat, someone to take her outside to relieve herself and being able to walk around.

Having her babies by her side and having enough to eat and drink so that the babies are taken care of as well as herself.

Having someone help her stay clean, help keep her babies clean, and help feed her babies as they grow.

Being able to stay with her babies until they are ready to leave their mom, teaching them so many social skills. (Well, as many as she knows, poor baby herself).

Having a safe place to leave her babies so she can get out and stretch her legs - and later, so she can escape for a few darned minutes.

Having a helper that will step in and feed the babies when she can no longer supply everything they need, knowing it will be good food for the babies.

Being around your babies long enough to say a joyful 'Goodbye!' to them as they leave for their forever homes.

Thank you so much to the primary caregivers and to those with the wisdom to help the whelpers through this; and thank you Danielle and Col Potter for making this possible. I rejoice in every rescued Cairn, but in the pregger mammas most of all. Their freedom is multiplied many times over.
