Introducing Sidra

Westie Rescue saved a beautiful sick brindle cairn. Her vetting revealed she not only had kennel cough, but she was also heartworm positive. To add to this poor girls pain and suffering, she has double ear infections. Westie Rescue did as much vetting as they could, but didn’t have a long term foster available for the HW treatment.

Col. Potter was called and now Sidra is a CP kid! Sidra will be at the vet clinic for a few more days before she is with her foster home.

 Look at this little ones face, is she not the cutest?

Alina gets a Second Chance!

Miss Alina was found as a stray with her pups who were all adopted out from the shelter.

Alina tested positive for Heartworm, and surprisingly was adopted out to a family who was happy to treat her for heartworm.They were happy until they visited their vet and found out what that meant in financial terms, and time of limited activity.

They returned her to the shelter, it was more than they bargained for when adopting her. Sadly, this meant that they could not adopt her out again, nor did they have the funding to treat her heartworm. Luckily, their rescue coordinator wanted her to at least have a chance, and reached out to Col. Potter to see if we could help. If not, it was the end of the road for her. Col. Potter said "YES!"

We have amazing foster homes, who know what Heartworm treatment entails, and know that while it isn't quick or easy, when its over the results are worth the time, money and work! We have amazing volunteers who work to raise every penny possible so that we can say yes to kids with Heartworm. Add to that every other volunteer that helps to round out the group, and make every cairn get whatever he needs and WE WORK MAGIC! Thanks to Dee P. who picked up Alina, and got her settled in for her weeklong spa treatment! Dee said that she is very sweet, very friendly, and loves to give kisses.Hugs to you Alina!

Col. Potter Is Singing A Child's Lullaby

All babies, human and animal, should be able to have soft lullabies sung to them and sweet dreams. Puppy mills turn those lullabies into frightening voices and dreams into terrorizing nightmares. Once they reach the loving arms of Col. Potter, we try to give them back the lullabies and dreams, but some still have to endure the fright and terror that travels with them.

Eugene Field, a Denver Journalist, in 1889 wrote a Dutch Lullaby:

Wynken, Blynken and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe --
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three...

Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea ...

Please meet CP's Wynken, Blynken and Nod:

Wynken - female, estimated to be 3-4 years old, she's shy but will lick fingers

Blynken - female, estimated to be 2 years old, she makes good eye contact but it's apparent she has had very little human contact and is very unsure of people

Nod - male, estimated to be 3-4 years old, he's the sweetest little thing, great social skills and acts like he was somebody's baby at some time in his life

These furkids won their freedom from an Arkansas puppy mill and their soft lullaby and sweet dreams should have now been in reach. However, the PM had one last dose of fright and terror for two of them -- one of the females and Nod, are heartworm positive.

Col. Potter will be there for these furkids and they will get treatment to make them healthy so they can have their chance at hearing that child's lullaby. Is there anyone out there that would like to start singing that lullaby to them? Is there anyone out there that would open their hearts and their home to these heartworm positive kids and foster one of them? We have a great medical support team and mentors that will be with you every chorus of the lullaby to form an entire choir. Hunter Update - Written By His Foster Mom

Hunter is free to be a real cairn terror!! He is baby heartworm free! The vet says he can run and play to his heart's content now and he and Cassie did exactly that ... 30 minutes of play until they both pooped out!

Hunter Update From His Foster Mom

Hunter really had a tough time after his first injection to treat his heartworms and we were worried about him. But the Lord has had His hands on Hunter since then, and thankfully he has done remarkably well. Hunter's allowed some "freedom" to play now (hopefully even more after his checkup at the vet tomorrow). He's feeling good and definitely is NOT happy being contained most of the time. Cassie initiates play and this is something we never ever would have imagined she would do. They grrrrr and nibble at each other and have a great time for the short time that Hunter's allowed! He and Cassie really enjoy their little bit of play time, and Hunter is as good for Cassie as she is for him.
