Foster in the Spotlight - Paladin

Contributed by Paladin's foster mom

Paladin was an owner surrender due to hardship and was terrified at the shelter. He has obviously been a very loved dog. He is about 10 years old and a bit larger cairn at about 19.5 lbs. He has already lost over 2 lbs since joining the CP family. Unfortunately, he was shaved when pulled so his coat is slowly growing out. He is fully housebroken and will go to the door or sit at your feet and look at you if he needs to go out. Paladin got along wonderfully with the two resident Cairns almost immediately and followed their lead. Paladin joins the resident Cairns in greeting family and visitors. Paladin hasn't met a dog or person that he didn't like immediately. Oops, he barks at the mail carrier and his truck, but happily takes treats from them. Paladin also barks when he is excited. He used to bark while I made dinner, but quiets when I say no--he spins in circles with anticipation when he sees me with his dinner bowl. Mike gives the dogs a small treat at 7pm nightly. Paladin and friends come running when they hear the crinkle of the treat bag. The three sit nicely and wait their turn and take their treats gently.

He loves long walks and playing tug of war or fetch. He has more energy than my Cairns. Paladin is so excited to walk that he does pull on lead at the beginning of the walk, but he is getting better. The first time I took him to be weighed--at the PetSmart vet's scale--I bought him a little rubber football. He carried it everywhere, even on mile-long walks, and he slept with it for weeks. I wondered if he felt he had lost everything and that the ball was the only thing that was his. Recently, he has started joining us on the sofa to watch tv and is seeking ear and belly skritches. He makes the funniest noises when you scratch his ears. I tried to video it but I'm either too slow to get the camera or he stops when he sees it. I will keep trying.

Please don't let Paladin's age keep you from considering him. He still has a lot of energy and lots of love to offer you. Please keep your heart open to an older guy who would love to spend his forever at your home!

Paladin is being fostered in Illinois and you can learn more about him by clicking here.

CP foster Boscar plays in the snow - VIDEO!

Contributed by Boscar's foster mom

I am so very proud of foster boy, Boscar. He came to us on Christmas Eve and was housebroken within 4 weeks. WELL - I was sure that during this horrendous weather we've been having that there was bound to be an accident. I WAS SURE PROVEN WRONG!!!! This guy was a trooper through the sleet, 45-60 mph winds and unrelenting snow --- not one accident. He is the sweetest most loving guy and so wants to please everyone. I hope you enjoy this video of him playing in the snow and his snuggle time this afternoon.

Please click here if you are unable to see the embedded Video

He has very distinctive coloring, he has a black head, tail and boots on all four legs and a grey/cream/brown brindle on the rest of his body. He is such a wonderful sweet boy. He's one of a kind and looking for his forever home. He's being fostered in Illinois and you can find out more about him by clicking here.

K Pax has a bed and biscuit on the way to his foster home!

Submitted by CP Volunteers

KPax had a Bed and Biscuit here last night. He is one precious boy. he slept in the x-pen and stayed dry. I took him outside in the am and he did his job and wanted to come in immediately. He was cold and so was I. He was then kept in the kitchcn until it was time to go. During this time he met my cats, wagging his tail.

He met my granddaughter(8) and wanted to give her kisses, wagging his body while doing so. I then took him to go with Ron and off he went. I have to quit meeting these dogs I love them all. This was the first time I had seen a black cairn and he was just tooooo cute. we were supposed to meet at 11am but we both got there early in Galena, IL, we had a bright sunny day. Ruby and all of my fur kids.

This picture was taken by his new foster Dad in Illinois. You can click here to see all of the cairns that CP has available for adoption.

See Sainted Riley in Action at his foster home!

Contributed by Sainted Riley's foster mom

Several people have e-mailed me to see how our first foster, Sainted Riley is doing.

He has come a long way from me having to take off the top of the crate to get him out his first afternoon here!!! He is a precious little guy and we ARE making progress.

I'm sorry my voice is so low on the video but he's still very sound sensitive so I was really trying to talk softly so as not to scare him.

I REALLY need to vacuum but keep putting it off because I don't want to freak him out.

Sainted Riley is being fostered in Illinois and he will be available for adoption soon. Please visit our website to see all of the cairns that are ready for adoption now and to check on him when he is available.

Sad News About Sally, lost cairn in Huntley, Illinois

Sent by a CP Volunteer

First of all, I want to thank everyone who helped in the search for Sally and all of those who included her in their prayers.

Below is an email we received from Carol (Sally's owner). I wanted everyone to know, Carol has continued to pay for Lost ads in the local newspapers and did everything she possibly could have done to bring Sally home.

My heart is very, very heavy for Carol and her family. Please say a little prayer for Carol and her family.

"It is with a very heavy and sad heart that I am writing this. Sally's body has been found. She left the 6th hole and was found behind the 8th in all that open land. A spot that was searched many times over. The elements seemed to have gotten to her. She was not hit by a car or overtaken by coyotes. My parents picked up her body today and brought her to the vet for a positive i.d. We will have her cremated and bury her in our backyard. Obviously, not the outcome we had all hoped and prayed for, but closure at least.

Thanks again to all that helped in her search. If I missed anyone on the e-mail list, please forward on. I sent a donation to Col. Potter in California last week in honor of all of your work and effort

Sincerely,
Carol"

Lost Cairn in Peoria, IL - NOW FOUND!

A Cairn recently rescued from a puppy mill is lost. She escaped mill life this week and was transported to her foster home Saturday. Something scared her that night around 10:00 pm and she broke away from her foster parents and ran. She is a 2-3 year old, wheaten cairn named Heidi.

The foster home is in Peoria, Illinois which is about 1 hr and 15 minutes from Springfield and about 1 hr and 45 minutes from Urbana.

It is very cold and the ground is covered in snow so please send prayers for this little cairn girl that she survives and makes it home safely. They have not found any tracks in the snow as a lead.

If you are able to help search or think you might have seen Heidi, please email Gayle at myklzgram@yahoo.com.
