Wolfie Warms Up with Col. Potter!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Wolfie, a Sweet, 3- 4 year old Black Brindle Male

Much of the country is being blanketed by snow and ice this week, bone chilling temperatures, and frigid wind chills.  This is truly weather "not fit for man nor beast" and especially not a little lost Cairn!  Luckily for this boy, some caring people brought him in, out of the weather, and tried to find his family.  Having no success, yet knowing that sometimes shelters aren't the best option for a lost dog, these kind people turned to other people they knew worked Rescue - and they just happen to be a Col. Potter foster home.  Becky and Reed contacted Intakes with the details of this little one's story and asked if CP had room to keep him safe and out of the cold.

Wolfie is now Safe and Warm!

Wolfie is now securely out of the cold, snow, and ice and enjoying the warmth and comfort offered by these wonderful CP Volunteers who will be fostering Wolfie, an approximately 3 – 4 year old Black Brindle male.  He is reported to be a bigger boy, around 20 pounds, and a real sweetheart who loves to cuddle and lean into you for love and snuggling.  Just what is needed for the long, cold Winter nights ahead to help keep you warm!

Please help us Welcome Wolfie to the warmth of Col. Potter!

Zuzu Rings the Bell at Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Zuzu Bailey, a sweet 7 year old Wheaten Female

The Holidays are upon us and after watching the Christmas Classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” the perfect name seemed obvious:  ZuZu Bailey!  She’s the little girl who came down with a fever when she didn’t button her coat, out in the cold, not wanting to crush her beautiful flower.  In the end, she tells her father that every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.

Unfortunately, this little 7 year old Cairn girl has also been out in the cold.  Thanks to Col. Potter and all its Rescue Angels, those days are over.  She is about to begin experiencing a new and “Wonderful Life” of her very own.

Please Welcome ZuZu Bailey to a New Wonderful Life with Col. Potter!

Col. Potter Needs a Few More Bell Ringers for Zuzu’s friends!

LB Acquires 3 wires, 2 plates, and 10 screws!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

LB has had his surgery to repair a badly broken leg!!!

After yesterday's gigantic scare, we are VERY happy to report that little LB had a successful surgery this morning to repair his left rear leg which was fractured in 4 places.  A totally different approach was taken with anesthesia this morning and there were absolutely no issues today.  The orthopedic surgery went very well and the leg went back together cleanly with the help of 3 wires, 2 plates and 10 screws!

LB will be monitored closely today and - if all goes well – he could be heading to his foster home with Ken G. as early as tomorrow for the long rehab and therapy period that will be needed to insure proper healing of his leg.  Little LB has been a wonderful ambassador for Col. Potter at the specialty clinic, wagging his tail and giving sweet little kisses to everyone - as if he knows they are all there to help him!

LB has made it over the major hurdle of the surgery, but his medical bills will be ongoing through rehab and therapy.  At this time of great Thanks and Giving, from the heart, we hope you will consider helping with LB's medical expenses.

All donations should include a note to help LB and should be sent to:

Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network

PO Box 1354
Menifee, CA 92585-1354

If you prefer not to use checks for payment, but you wish to donate for little LB, please go to the Lynch Creek Farm/Col.Potter Cairn Rescue Network Giving Green! fundraiser, click on “Support Now”, then click on “Donate Now”, and make a Comment to indicate this is for LB’s medical expenses.  This is a 100% straight donation with no purchase required, and Lynch Creek Farm will pass 100% of all donations through to Col. Potter at the end of the fundraiser.

Please keep little LB in your prayers and send him any extra luck and positive thoughts you have as he heals from his orthopedic surgery and heads down the road to recovery, waiting for that wonderful Forever home to find him.

LB Gives Col. Potter a Real Scare!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

LB still needs surgery to repair a badly broken leg

Little LB gave everyone a real scare today!  Before you panic, he's alive, but it certainly could have gone either way...

When LB was put under anesthesia today for his orthopedic surgery (to repair his severely broken rear left leg with fractures in four places), his blood pressure dropped drastically.  This is not all that uncommon, but it usually comes right back up when treated with appropriate medications to raise it.  This was NOT the case for little LB!  It took an extraordinarily long time - 30 minutes - to get his blood pressure back to normal.

He was immediately taken off anesthesia and has been put on an IV to flush out his kidneys.  The low blood pressure slows and even stops the flow of blood to all vital organs, including his kidneys, and could send him into renal failure.  He is being carefully monitored, having some additional testing done today, and research is being done to find a safer anesthetic solution for LB.  His orthopedic surgery will last anywhere from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the extent of the damage and repair that is needed, so it is imperative that they find a safe anesthesia that LB can tolerate.  If this cannot be done, then the only other option will be to amputate LB's leg which would require being under anesthesia for a shorter period of time.

Of course, we all hope this won't be the case and that the orthopedic surgery team will be able to find an anesthesia protocol that LB is tolerant of.  They will be attempting surgery again tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, LB's medical bills continue to escalate with this latest setback.  Please consider helping with LB's medical expenses.

All donations should include a note to help LB and should be sent to:

Potter at the end of the fundraiser.

Please keep little LB in your prayers and send him any extra luck and positive thoughts you have that his orthopedic surgery will have a successful outcome tomorrow and that he will be well on the road to recovery.
