Please welcome Sark!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Col. Potter's newest boy, Sark! He is 2 1/2 years old, has a beautiful gray brindle coat with a foxy red undercoat and charcoal gray face and paws. His photo does not do him justice. Sark is very social, enjoys the company of others (dogs and people), men or women, young or old. He knows sit, stay, shake and come. He loves to walk and has the strong leg muscles to prove it. Sark also is a master of vocalization. While not a noisy cairn, he does the cairn trill, scream and whine. He also imitates sirens of all kinds - so well some humans have mistaken his imitations for the real thing!

Through an unfortunate turn of events, Sark and his owner had to part. Sark's caretakers wanted Sark to have the best possible chance of finding a new home and Col. Potter is giving him that opportunity.

Let's all give a big bark to Sark!

Please welcome Whiskey – a very handsome, 2 1/2 year old male, with a gorgeous technicolor brindle coat. He is a happy, healthy, and strong willed typical young cairn.

Welcome little one!

Introducting Anderson

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

After a long hot summer, shelters are filled to their capacity. There comes a time when decisions have to be made. Thanks to Col. Potter, our newest intake, Anderson, was plucked from the “line” just in time!

Anderson reportedly has spent his entire life, which they estimate as 2.5 years, outside chained to a tree. He’s being vetted now, and will be in the loving arms of his foster before the end of this holiday weekend.

I’d like everyone to give Anderson a big CP welcome!

LET'S WELCOME GILBERT TO CP!!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Gilbert is a cute little brindle boy who is two and a half years old. He was saved when he was just a puppy from a farmer's bullet. But the family that saved him never intended to keep him. Rather, their hope was to find him a perfect forever home. Well, that was two years ago.

They gave it their best effort, but felt they could not find the right family for him. They decided to contact CP to see if we could help and here he is! He just arrived to his new foster home this afternoon and his new Foster Dad says he is a super friendly and curious little fella checking his new pad out. Welcome to CP, little Gilbert boy!

Guilt By Association

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Recently a Col. Potter member was contacted about a cairn terrier in need of help. She notified Intakes and contact was made to get more information about the situation. The story that unfolded was sad and hopeful at the same time. Here's the two tales of Wylie!

Wylie, a healthy, happy, 19 pound, 2 1/2 year old cairn enjoyed life with a cairn brother (real or adopted we don't know). They had a family, a home and received vet care. One day Wylie's brother bit the family toddler - we don't know the circumstances only the outcome. Wylie and his brother both ended up at a kill shelter. Wylie's brother was euthanized - the shelter had no choice due to local law. Owner surrenders taken to kill shelters may be euthanized at any time - there is no hold time as there would be with a stray. Wylie saw his brother taken away never to return leaving him confused and alone. As if that wasn't traumatic enough, the shelter had a widespread outbreak of kennel cough. Even though Wylie had been vaccinated, he became ill with kennel cough. Wylie was very unhappy at the shelter and expressed his displeasure. Wylie became in danger of joining his brother at the rainbow bridge. The shelter breed placement coordinator believed Wylie was a good dog not adjusting to his circumstances. She found a guardian angel to take care of Wylie until rescue help could be found. This guardian angel contacted the CP member which brings the story full circle.

Wylie's angel nursed him back to health, helped him brush up on his leash techniques and his command skills. Wylie's guardian angel reports that Wylie is a pretty mellow fellow once in a home. He's smart, sweet and loves to cuddle. His main vice is digging for pesky moles with true cairn determination. As we celebrate Wylie joining Col. Potter, please take a moment to remember his brother who wasn't as fortunate. If you know of a cairn in need of rescue, please go to Rescue Information on www.cairnrescue.com and complete the Report a Cairn in Need form. You may be saving an innocent life.

Wylie is looking forward to a new family and a new life. Thanks to all of you and Col. Potter, Wylie has a second chance!

Heeere's Brexton!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Brexton was brought into Col. Potter's arms on Monday thanks to Wendy D. who picked him up and took him to his foster mommy Krista G. to start his journey in his foster home. This little guy is 2 ½ years old, and through no fault of his own, was an owner surrender. The owners found out that his high energy just didn't fit with their laid back life style. They did their research on CP and knew that this was the place they wanted him to be to find a new home. He's a cutie and I'm sure that we will be able to find him a good home in no time!

We could not rescue these kids without the great volunteers that we have and the funds that are donated, so a big thank you to you all!

Welcome Brexton!!

Heeere's Holke!

Holke (hole-key) is estimated to be 2 ½ years old. He was one of three dogs that were to be put in a pound during a divorce. Instead of putting the dog in a pound this woman took him with all intention of keeping him for the remainder of his life. Her husband has passed away, she had a stroke that effected her keeping up with Holke. She did not want him to go to a pound and came to us for help. She lives very close to Marlene and Chuck so, Marlene stepped in to help pick up and bring Holke into the loving arms of CP. Seems that this little guy wiggled his way right into the hearts of both Marlene and Chuck as they have become an official foster home to foster this boy. Thanks Marlene and Chuck for all you did and are doing for Holke!

Tatum - A Blonde Boy

Friday a 2 1/2 year old cute cairn boy became a member of the Col. Potter blonde boy club! He's an owner surrender and looking forward to finding a forever home! He was once rescued from a shelter and when the novelty wore off he was given away. A kind lady took him in hoping her home could be his forever home. Alas, that couldn't be so Col. Potter was contacted to help this cute young man. Tatum likes playing with stuffed toys. He also enjoys getting brushed and having his coat stripped!!! He enjoys walks and other animals, although he will participate in recreational cat chasing. Sandy has once again stepped up to be a rescue angel as she brought Tatum to Col. Potter. Tatum will be joining his foster mom, Carla in Florida. Tatum's going to need some sunglasses soon!
