Cypress has got TALENT!

Written by Cypress' foster mom

Dear Cuzins,
Everybody's got talents, but I think we found mine today. I have been DISCOVERED! I gotz talent!

You see at my house, Mama has a toybox in the famblyroom. It's a GREAT BIGtoybox like Uncle Brian makes. In fact it's JUST like the ones Uncle Brianmakes! Yesterday I found it and climbed right in, head first. Down inside it I found this CUTE pink bunny. She's bigger than my head! but I'm a strong littlecairn girl, so I held my head REALLY high and brought it over to show Mary. ThenI had to go find a whole bunch of other toys to show Mary. I was very busy digging in the toybox for quite a while!

This morning, after I went potty, I got to go in the famblyroom again (this isthe DISCOVERED part). I found a fun toy and brought it to Mary and she tossed itaway from her. I went and got it for her and she tossed it again! I kept picking up her toys and bringing them back to her and she kept throwing them. She said Iwas playing fetch and she said I was the BEST fetcher she'd ever seen! We played for FIFTEEN minutes straight and every time she threw it, I'd bring it back to her.

This is a fun game. You guys should try it at your house!

IT'S NOT FAIR! CYPRESS SPEAKS AGAIN...

Contributed by Cypress' foster mom

Dear Cuzins,

I am SO disappointed! Mommy promised me that I could meet the other kids this weekend after I got my stitches out. Then the vet said my 'incision' (whatEVER that is) wasn't all the way healed and it would be good to 'keep me quiet' for another few days. HA! Keep ME quiet?
Anyways, that means I have to stay in Ft Knox for a few more days! AND Mommy torturefied me today and took off half a dog worth of hair. Now my lovely locks aren't 2-3 inches long! *Sigh*

On the bright side, I don't have any nasty mats in my hair anymore. Of course that means my butt doesn't have much hair at all, but Mommy says it will grow.

Also, I DID get to meet Maggie and Stewart and Katie and Joie, but only one at a time and we didn't get to run and play. Actually, Stewart and Maggie just stood there and let me sniff their butts. Mommy said the word I'm looking for is 'nonplussed'. Katie likes me I think. She thinks I'm cool because I'm smaller than she is. And Joie wanted to play with me. She looked thrilled to see me. Well, that is until I sneaked up and playfully chomped on her ear. She made a 'mama sound' then. But the brother and sisters definitely look promising once I'm allow to join the social circle. It looks like I'm going to be a HIT!

AND Mommy did take me outside for a photo shoot this afternoon. She said I need to work on standing still for a second so my pictures aren't so blurry. WHATEVER! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! I just have lots of things to DO! Mommy says at least you can see my pretty face in these pictures.

OH! And the vet said I weighed 9 lbs 4 ozs on Saturday! Mommy says she can't feel my backbone so much any more.

Here's the link to the pictures!

Meet Cypress, the foster puppy 'monster'!

Contributed by Cypress' foster mom

So have you ever taken a foster because he/she's just SO cute?Little Cypress is a little mite at almost 9 pounds and Mary pleaded for us to foster her. Well it's AMAZING what almost 9 pounds can do! She's a little squirm worm, wriggling with joy whenever you pick her up. She absolutely LOVES people. The past couple of days she's decided that having her own bedroom away from the rest of the family is just NOT acceptable.

She has been complaining LOUDLY that she needs to be included. (Did I mention that a high C is not out of her vocal range? In fact, she quite likes the 'upper register'.) So last night she took matters into her own paws. After her nighttime walkies, but before going in her crate for bed, she was again registering her usual complaints - her expen is the wrong shape, her garbage can is in the wrong place, the towels don't belong on the bed. You know, the usual decorating tips from an 8 month old cairn girl. THEN IT GOT QUIET............In my mind, whether the kids are cairn or human, quiet is NEVER a good sign.

So I opened the door to find out what was happening. Who should meet me from theend of the bed? Yep, little monster Cypress. She'd taken care of her expen. It was now a loooong rectangle stretched across the room. She'd knocked down the garbage can to be more accessible and taken the towels off the bed. (They were in her way and looked better on the floor anyway.) She was SOOO proud of herself, wiggling happily on the bed. So I laughed at her, called her a monster, put the room back together, popped her in her crate with a cookie and a kiss, and turned out the light - threatening a lid for her expen if she tried that trick again.

With nary a peep last night, she arose happily and went on her walkies with Mary. She wasn't back in her pen for 5 minutes before she met me at the door again, happily wagging and wiggling to come out and play, although this time she did it without moving the expen. So out came the expen lid to keep her safe. I've promised her that she can meet the pack on Saturday after she gets her stitches out. She will have had a week to get used to the smells and sounds and routine of our house and will be ready to make some new friends. The good news is that she has kept her crate dry EVERY night since she's been home! YAY! She's a cutie, but a monster. I think she subscribes to the rule: "You can say(do) ANYTHING as long as you smile when you say(do) it!"
Cypress is 8 months old and being fostered in Missouri.

She will be available for adoption soon. Please visit our website to see all of the cairns that we have available for adoption.

Please welcome Cypress!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

A large group of furkids from many different commercial breeding facilities made their way to freedom this week including an adorable little, 8 month old black brindle female Cairn that is now a member of the CP family. My thanks to Stacey for making the drive yesterday to pick her up and get her settled in at the vet.

Her name comes from the Name a Mill Cairn Program and a special group of people in Canada who wrote:

In January of this year we decided to put spare coins aside to participate in the Name a Mill Cairn Program, it is amazing how quickly these coins add up. We also decided that since we all live on Vancouver Island, we would all choose a name that was a place on the Island, and each time we saved $100 a name would be drawn to name our Mill Cairn.

So we of the Vancouver Island Group would like to welcome our first Cairn: "Cypress" to the Col. Potter Family.

With our love, the "Vancouver Island Group"

Iris & Brian A, with Furkids Ceilidh & Betsy BJ Arberry
Geraldina S. and Furkid Maggie Mae
Allison S. and Furkid Rajaa
Iona and Jim T. with Furkids Danny & Piper
Mike L.

This is just so special and such a testament to what spare change can do. Thank you Vancouver Island Group!

Let's all give a big CP welcome to Cypress!
