This handsome 2 year old boy is a happy and energetic little guy!  He was originally a shelter stray that got adopted from the shelter.  He lived with his new family for about a year.  When the family needed to find him a new home, a friend of the family took him in, temporarily, hoping to find the right new family.

After several months, and no good prospects coming forward, the Good Samaritan contacted us to see if we could take this little boy.  Fortunately, we could!

Welcome Little Boy Brew!

Brew, a 2 year old Brindle Male

Please give a warm CP welcome to our new boy, Brew!

This young man - only two years old - found himself in danger of being set free into the woods.  A good Samaritan took him in to save him from that fate, but after a few months, she realized that she was not the best home for him, and reached out to Col Potter.

Now, this young man has entered the ranks of the lucky Cairns in need in the US that are able to join our fold!  He is settling into his foster home, and embarking on a new life where he will be cherished - as all dogs should be!

Please welcome "McNally" to the CP family!

McNally is a 2 year old fellow! Not much is known about this boy as he was picked up as a stray. He was found on the street where his leash was tangled up on a fence, which in a way was his saving day. He must have been someone’s pet because he had a collar, harness and leash on him but, no one came to claim him. The shelter has a contract with a local vet to house pets if they are filled up so, again he was lucky not to have to go to the shelter.

CP was contacted and on the day he was to be euthanized CP stepped in to take ownership of him. He was able to stay at the vet office for his neuter/vetting. This vet office was very helpful in working with us to save this boy! Thanks again to all the volunteers of CP that give not only of their time but, their money to help save cairns in need or cairns like McNally would not be here. I’m sure he will be ready in no time for a forever family that will love him and be happy to claim him as their own!!

Please welcome Lysander

Lysander was picked up as a stray by animal control and brought to a high kill shelter outside of Atlanta, GA. I was sent his information from a shelter volunteer, and I forwarded his info and photos to intakes. I, Naggy Nancy, inquired on his status a bunch, and felt the least I could do was offer to have him come hang out at the barking boys ranch (aka my home).

Maureen, Deb, and Laura, were instrumental in getting him out of there, taking him to the vet, and putting him on a plane to Connecticut. His flight was on my birthday, so Mo volunteered to go to the airport and fetch him for me.

He is a sweetie, full of affection and kisses, and great with dogs, kids and adults. He loves scritches, naturally. Walks well on leash and is easily handled and very tolerant of poking and prodding. He is very playful and spunky and races through the yard with my other young foster girl.

Lysander is not more than 2 years old, and about 15 lbs. So far he demonstrates good house manners. He is attentive to tone of voice and fairly obedient. Welcome to Col. Potter!

2 handsome fellows join CP

A call came into CP from a shelter that was over it’s capacity and needed to move some dogs out or...

Two cairn terriers were found on the streets, dirty, hungry and lonely. One was neutered, one wasn’t. One was microchipped, the other wasn’t. As often happens, the microchip wasn’t registered. After the required holding period, could we take these two little boys? We could, and we did. Both cairns are estimated to be less than 2 years old.

Manassas is the more “mature” cairn of the two. He weighs a mere 13lbs, but he thinks he is much bigger than that.



Walton, the chubby one, weighs 16lbs, and still acts very much like a puppy.



I’d like everyone to give Manassas and Walton a great big CP welcome.

Where there's a will, there's a way

We all know how strong willed Cairns are; their will to survive, their will to dominate, their will to get their way and their will to win our hearts. Sometimes they have to be even more strong willed than even we can imagine.

This little boy definitely has the will to survive after running loose for several weeks, having found his way with another dog to the home of a kind woman who had been providing food and water for them. They would sleep in her barn during the night and then roam during the day. The last couple of weeks, the second dog, a wheaten color, had not been coming, so this little boy had been snuggling with the barn cats at night.

The woman had been looking for help and finally contacted a local Wheaten Terrier rescue in her state. Friday night they managed to get the little dog contained in the barn and Saturday the Wheaten rescue arrived to pick-up what they believed to be a Wheaten Terrier. Imagine their surprise when they looked in the crate and discovered a little black brindle Cairn!

Where there's a will, there's a way ...the Wheaten rescue was not about to leave him there knowing what could happen to him. They have worked with Col. Potter in the past and were hoping we would be able to help this little guy. I received the message from Wheaten Rescue at 3:03 PM yesterday and by 4:19 PM, we had arrangements made for a volunteer to meet the Wheaten rescue this morning and then drive to meet another volunteer. I'll be on the phone with our vet in first thing tomorrow to let them know this little boy will be coming to stay with them this week.

And now, I'm pleased to introduce Wilton, estimated to be approximately 2 years old, sweet, friendly and adorable! Where there's a will, there's a way ... I'm so happy Wilton had the will to survive and I know he will win our hearts!

Who you callin' Yeller?

Yeller is a 2 year old active male cairn that was purchased as a companion to an aging couple. His cairn spirit was too much for this older couple to handle, and Col. Potter was asked to help Yeller find a good home.

Welcome Poncho to the CP family

Poncho is 2 yrs. old and is a big boy! He loves everyone he meets and isn't afraid of much of anything. He loved playing with another cairn at the vets where he was being boarded. He is said to be a sweet boy, gives kisses and he shouldn't have any problem finding someone to love him for who he is.

Col. Potter welcomes Twilight Stars Edward and Bella Swan!

Yes, CP has its very own Twilight!

Edward and Bella Swan joined our clan early Saturday, being pulled from a shelter where their time was running out due to space issues. These are two stunning cairns- even before grooming! They are having a week's worth of spa treatment before moving onto their foster homes.

What's One More? Welcome Nightcap!

You all remember our 26 furkids - the Cheers to Col. Potter group - who reached freedom two weeks ago with the help of some special people from one of our wonderful vets. Well, when I got the call there was a little girl in the same area that was being offered her chance at freedom, they found room for one more at the vet clinic. Even though she's not part of the Cheers to Col. Potter Kids, she's been bunking with them and the vet staff thought she was a fitting ending, a finale to our Cheers and should have a name to match. So, they came up with Nightcap, the last one ... well at least for a little while.

Nightcap is a beautiful little girl estimated to be 2 years old. She's a red wheaten who is very shy and frightened, but I know with lots of love and patience in her foster home, she will soon be showing that she is a true Cairn.

And so, here's to Nightcap who made it #27 that our wonderful vet is helping us with this month ... CHEERS and WELCOME!

Welcome Jenna to CP!

CP has a new girl! Two year old Jenna- loves to play, have her belly scratched and dig. She was sold as a 'lap dog' who would cuddle by her owner.

Well, you and I know that a lap cairn is a VERY rare, hardly seen thing- and Jenna did not fit that bill. So she joined CP so that she can find a family looking for feisty, active, typical cairn girl. Welcome Jenna!

Fosters Mojito and Singapore Sling are here and I think "Girls Gone Wild" about sums it up. They are sisters and two years old. They are both attention starved and sweet, but VERY effervescent. They have a lot of pent up energy.

Mojito is the dominant of the two girls and poor Singapore, gives in to her demands.

Chloe and Zeus are staying away from their ex-pen for now as the energy level is a little too high for them . A little Homeopet Anxiety Relief and the house is quiet again. More to come as they settle in.

Welcome Wiggles to CP!

Welcome CP's newest bundle of joy- Wiggles! Little Wiggles is a happy girl, ready with wags and kisses for everyone she meets. At two years old, she weighs in at only 12 pounds, a tiny girl with a huge zest for life. I don't expect with a face like hers she will be in foster care for long.

We are glad you are with us, Wiggles!

Meet Laramie!

Laramie is a cute little imp of a cairn, he's two years old and weighs in at 9.8 pounds! He was pulled from a shelter by a rescue angel and has spent a week at the vet's. This boy is so happy and bouncy and full of energy and he clearly loves being with a family again. He was reported to be food aggressive, but we think the shelter marked the wrong dog's card, as we've not found a grumpy bone in his body - and we had to take chicken bones away from him that he found on a walk! Laramie gave them up without a fowl word! He's got some interesting markings - a green spot on his left flank! Vet thinks it's tattoo dye he must have rolled in while living on the streets as a stray. He's off to MI and his foster home!
