Yowie, the Cairn Sasquatch

My name is Yowie! I have been told that a “yowie” is an Australian Sasquatch. That name was given to me by Colonel Potter.

My best friend and partner who came with me to our first CP foster home was actually named Sasquatch. H-m-m-m…. Funny names!
Sassie (left) and Yowie (right)

Sasquatch, or "Sassie" for short, was the love of my life. We had a good life in our foster home until one day someone came and took Sassie away. I heard that her new family already had a male dog and couldn't take me too. I was so sad and sometimes I misbehaved because of that.

Eventually I was sent to a new foster home in Missouri. My foster mom was pretty strict and tried to teach me better behavior skills. Ohhh man, that was hard. I spent a lot of time in the X-Pen. One cold and rainy day, my foster mom bundled me up and took me back to the airport. I had no idea where I was going. There were a few mishaps along the way like when they left me sitting outside the airplane when it took off... yeah, tell me about it!

But I got to spend that night at a really cool doggie spa. The next day, I made it on the plane and finally got off in some place called "Seattle." All I could wonder was what would happen next.

Two people picked up my crate and put me in a car. OMG ….. in the car was my best buddy Sassie! We were together again! I could not believe it! Nothing could have made me happier.

We got to our new forever home and Sassie helped me to be a better dog. What fun we had together. I have since lost Sassie and as sad as that is, I now have a new friend …. a cute little CP girl named Izzy (aka Yaquina).

I am king of the castle in my forever home. I do share nicely with Izzy even though she steals my treats if I don't eat them fast enough. I have other friends in the neighborhood and two big parks for walking and smelling. I am considered a true gentleman in my old age of 14 years. Thank you so much Col Potter. And thank you Laurel, Robin and Suzanne for your help along my journey.

Trigger Celebrates 2 years in Forever!

Written by CP Trigger

CP Trigger enjoying two years Forever in Maine!
Howdy, flatlanders!  What’s that, Mom?...  Oh, ok…  Well, I guess you all might not qualify for that nickname.  I’ve been a Down Easter now for two full years, but I guess I still have some things to learn.

Anyway, you might call me a “Maniac” now, but I prefer “Down Easter” – even though some people think you have to be born here to get that title!  I don’t know where I was born, though, so I think I get a pass on this one.  See, Col. Potter rescued me way back in July, 2012, and sent me up to the wilds of Minnesota.  My skin and coat were in really bad shape, but after Foster Mom got my coat all ship-shape and healthy, Mom adopted me and flew me over to Maine.  It is just about the same kind of weather here, though Mom says the Atlantic Ocean gives us a little better range of temperature than at Foster Mom’s house.

Winter is still a great time to hunt…
…but Spring, Summer, and Fall are much better!

She might have a point because I do get more hunting time out here in the yard, even in the Winter.   Mom is always watching me, of course, so I don’t ever really get to catch anything, but it sure is fun to chase squirrels and chipmunks – and to dig big holes!  I also get to go to the beach sometimes!

I love to go to the beach with Mom!

Sometimes Mom lets me come to work with her, and I go to meetings and sit patiently in a chair, just like a real executive.  That’s OK, but what I really love is to go to dog camp once a week and play with all of my dog buddies!  Of course, I have my BFF Titan at home to cuddle up with, and that’s special too.

It’s nice to have a Special BFF, even if it’s a cat named Titan!

I am so happy that Col. Potter Volunteers were there to help me when I needed help.  Between Foster Mom and my very own Mom, I truly, truly know what it is like to be very well loved and cherished!

Berman Believes in Forever Love!

Written by CP Berman

CP Berman, now Blissful in Forever!

They’re in Love!!!  They are so “crazy” about me (whatever that really means…) and they really seem to be enjoying spending time with me!

Ha!  I bet my Foster Mom is gonna’ be surprised to hear this!  She was like all, “Berman!!!  That’s enough!!!” and that sort of thing, but I have made excellent progress!

I've pretty well figured out that this is my permanent home – Forever! - and it makes a difference, knowing that Mom and Dad will always take care of me.  I mean, it was confusing at first because, almost right away, they up and took me off to some strange place they called “Florida” and I was sure they were going to dump me off somewhere – but they didn’t!  They kept me right with them and then brought me back home – and now I am one contented little camper.

Don’t believe me?  Well, just watch my little movie!  You can’t get much more contented that that!  Mom and Dad love to watch me when I am totally relaxed.  They say I am “a hoot to watch” which I think means I make them laugh!

Making your Mom & Dad laugh is a great thing to do, and it’s really very simple:  I just roll on my back with a toy bone or ball in my mouth, kick my hind legs out, take the toy out of my mouth with both paws and drop it back in my mouth again – They think it's hysterical!  Unfortunately, I killed the squeaker on the bone in the film, but when I have one with a squeaker, I really get going!  It's so cute to watch Mom and Dad giggle!

Foster Mom’s description of me on the Col. Potter website said I had “the potential for being an awesome dog” and I have to admit, she got that absolutely right!  All it took was an Awesome Mom & Dad!

Oh!!  I think I must be in Love too!

Thank you Foster Mom and Col. Potter!

CP Kessler has No Komplaints!

Written by CP Kessler nka Kepler

Look at me!  I got a New Mom!!!

You know, it seems like just the other day when those people over at Animal Services rescued me from that awful situation, out in the freezing cold, but then said I was “unadoptable” because I had so many things wrong with me.  I remember looking up at the pity in their eyes, thinking that I was about to have a rendezvous with my maker…

But look at me now!!!!!

That passionate Intake Coordinator over at Col. Potter just wouldn’t give up on me!  Col. Potter to the Rescue!  Nine years old?  No problem!  Sick?  Very sick?  No problem!  Intact?  No problem!  To be fair, they didn’t ask me on that one, but that’s fine.  A sacrifice I was willing to make!

So Col. Potter Rescued me, for real this time, and then my Foster Mom and Dad did an unbelievable job, following the doctors’ orders and getting me healed and healthy again.  I even got my hair back!

Then these really great people - really, really nice! - decided they wanted a mature dog, just like me, to keep Darwin company, and what a great deal that turned out to be!  Darwin, as far as I knew, was a stuffy old scientist of some kind.  I was a little worried because I even think he might not be actually living anymore, so I wasn’t sure what kind of company I was supposed to be keeping, but it turned out that Darwin is a dog!  Another Cairn just like me!  He is great to keep company with!  He will clean out my bowl, even, if I don’t feel like finishing every bite, and he is very good company at the groomers where Mom took us to get cleaned up.

I know this looks bad, but it’s just my new brother Darwin and me waiting for our bath – no problem!
See!  Darwin will clean up my bowl for me - what a guy!

And I have a new name!  Mom and Dad decided they needed another scientist in the house, so they named me “Kepler” after the astronomer, Johannes Kepler.  Now, in all fairness, Darwin and I did keep our eyes on the Super Moon this week, but I don’t think we are going to get carried away with scientific activities.  After all, Darwin and I find keeping our focus on our family and our bright future is more than satisfactory, especially since that’s all about the science of Love!

Thanks to everyone at Col. Potter who put the “R” in Rescue!

Teddy Rocks in the Cradle of Forever Love!

Written by Teddy fka CP Sir. Albert

Teddy fka CP Sir. Albert making himself right at home!

Hi there, Col. Potter Family!  Teddy here!  You probably remember me as CP Sir. Albert, but my Mom and Dad adopted me last October and decided to call me Teddy, I think because I’m so cute like a little Teddy Bear!  I also think my Mom and Dad were a little confused when they adopted me because I’m not really sure if they realize that I’m actually a dog, not their baby?  Not that I’m complaining!  It works out just fine for me!

What a sweet baby!

Mom and Dad adopted me when I was about 6 years old, and I came to them with some bad allergies.  After lots and lots of doctor visits, my Mom and Dad think they are getting me on the right track, and I do feel much better now!  I love my Mom and Dad so much for taking such good care of me, and I show my appreciation by taking my pills with no problems.

Mom and Teddy bundled up to brave the cold Mid-west Winter.

The only thing I think Col. Potter really messed up was that they sent me to a very cold place!  I’m not sure where it is, and I don’t understand why my Mom and Dad would agree to live here, but, boy, did it get cold here!  I had to wear a jacket and booties all Winter when we went outside!  Being the stubborn little Cairn that I am, I showed my disdain for the cold weather by conveniently un-learning all my good potty behaviors.  Yes indeed!  I fixed it so I didn’t have any reason to go out in the cold anymore!

Of course, Mom got wise to what I was doing and started re-training me to go potty outside so I wouldn’t have any excuse.  Actually, it worked in my favor as I got lots and lots of carrots to reward my great behavior.  I did get a little cocky, though, and started to pretend to pee and poo outside just to get carrots.  Worked pretty good at first, but Mom caught on pretty quick and that idea went out the window!  Oh well!

Dad's pillow is just Perfect!

To be honest, however, I’ve been living a pretty good life with Mom and Dad, so I have no complaints.  When I first moved in, Dad had something called “rules” for me and, for example, I wasn’t “allowed” on the couch or in bed.  He-he-he-he!  That didn’t last very long!  Man, do I love to sleep with my Mom and Dad!  When Mommy tells me it’s bed time, I know just what to do: Jump into bed and go straight to Daddy’s spot!  I don’t usually get to stay there too long, but I sure enjoy it while it lasts!

Teddy loves day-care!

Since my parents can’t spend all day every day with me, like I wish they could, they send me to doggy day care at least once a week.  I LOVE day-care!!  As soon as Mommy asks me if I want to go to day-care, I go bonkers!  I can’t help it though!  They have slides, and pools, and people to pet and love on me all day!  Don’t tell my doggy friends, but the ladies at day-care tell me I’m their favorite!  One day when it was rainy at day-care, the vet staff took me into the offices and put me in the break room so they could just play with me - while the other dogs had to play in the kennels all day.  Yup!  Spoiled at home and at day-care!

Teddy just double checking his Dad’s work!

My Mom and Dad must have been pretty bored before they adopted me.  Since I’ve been here, all they ever want to do is hang out with me!!  Whether it’s watching TV, going for walks, or going home to visit family, they want me with them all the time!  I can’t imagine what Mom and Dad did before I arrived, but I’m ok with it.  Being their baby isn’t too bad of a job for a mature little man like me!  Well, maybe “mature” is stretching it a bit!

Yes, all things considered, I’m doing pretty darn good here at my new digs!  Mom and Dad are great – although they could be a little less stingy with the treats!  I’ll give them a little more time and I’m sure they’ll figure it out!

Blackberry is Berry Happy in Forever!

Written by Berry fka CP Blackberry

CP Blackberry nka Berry has his own floatie…

Well, Hello Col. Potter Friends!  It’s been a couple years now since my Foster Dad told me I had found a Forever Home.  You might remember me as CP Blackberry, the Cairn who ate the cell phone, but now I am just Berry, and I just have to say that I am Berry, Berry Happy!

…or he can hitch a ride with Mom!

My new Mom and Dad fit me right into their family, and I love everyone, especially my older brother, Alex.   It’s summer here in Virginia and that means that Alex and I get to play in the pool!  I have my own “floatie” that I love, and I also love to fetch my ball in the pool!  I am an excellent swimmer, and I know how to get in and out of the pool – all by myself!

Berry loves big brother Alex, also a rescued family member.
Berry and Alex consider jumping in after the ball.
Berry loves to ride in the boat!

I also love cruising on our family boat!  I love being part of a family that includes me on so many adventures, big and small.  I guess that’s what Love is all about!  Thank you Col. Potter, and Foster Dad, and everyone else for everything you did to bring so much Love into my life!

Berry likes to keep his eye on the ball!

Charlie Catches Spring Fever!

Written by Charlie aka Chuckles fka CP Sir. Charlie

Charlie fka CP Sir. Charlie - still Happy in Forever!

Hey, Col. Potter people!   It’s finally Spring!

You might remember me from a few months back (eight, if you want to be precise…) as that charming older gentleman, Sir. Charlie, adopted by another charming older gentleman, my Dad!  He dropped the “Sir.” As it was just too formal for us country folk, so now I am simply Charlie – but I am still Charming!

Do you like this profile better?

A nice lady named “Janet” came over and took some photos of me – and fell in love with me, of course!  (I am charming, after all…)

I like to take my Dad for a walk…

…and Dad likes to check out the other animals!

Anyway, my Dad calls me “Chuckles” because I make him laugh every day, and that’s a good thing too.  He, in turn, takes me for nice walks every day, and I let him stop and check out the pesky alpaca (who is just a stick in the mud as far as I’m concerned), and he likes to stop and make sure the cattle are keeping the grass short enough (especially with the ticks!).

I love the Spring!

Dad calls me “Chuckles” because I make him laugh!
I then always treat him to my "stop, drop, and roll" routine which makes him laugh.  I like to keep him happy!  Happy Dad!  Happy Charlie!  Simple as that!

Well, that’s it for now, but I’ll let you know how things are going down the road.  Now…  Where did we leave that pesky alpaca?
