Rescued by an Angel!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

A few weeks ago we were contacted about a little girl that had been rescued from a shelter by her own angel.

Seems her rescue angel was walking through the shelter and spied a little girl huddled into a corner of her cage scared and sick. The angel adopted her knowing she couldn't keep her, but she also knew that she wouldn't be adopted in her current condition. So the angel took her to the vet and found out this little girls mouth was so infected from bad teeth that it was openly visible in her mouth. After recovery from an extensive dental where 9 teeth were removed and lots of love and care, her rescue angel contacted Col. Potter and asked if we could find this baby a new home.

Please welcome CP's Gracelyn! She is a 5 yr old Mill momma that was a previous confiscation by the state from a puppy mill. So by the grace of this generous angel and Col. Potter this little girl will have a chance at a new wonderful life. Doncha just love happy endings?! :)

Welcome The Magnet!

Word came through the rescue grapevine that there was a young cairn in a shelter that needed help NOW! He was an owner surrender to the shelter which means the legal hold period that a stray is afforded does not apply. An owner surrender may be PTS (put to sleep) in a short time depending on the surrender conditions and the shelter's policy. Contacted by one of her rescue pals, Ruth H. got the wheels in motion to save this boy.

Magnet is just barely a year old. He has some bare spots from being outside in a pen where he rubbed the cage so much he caused bare spots on himself, all he wanted was human attention and affection. The attention he got was to be taken to the shelter. With a good diet and some grooming he will be one handsome guy. (Check out his "after grooming" pictures below!) In honor of Ruth's animal magnetism, this cutie will now be known as Magnet! Ruth says he has beautiful brown eyes - sounds like his magnetic powers are at work already! Better days are ahead for you, Magnet - may you attract only good things in the future.

Meet Laramie!

Laramie is a cute little imp of a cairn, he's two years old and weighs in at 9.8 pounds! He was pulled from a shelter by a rescue angel and has spent a week at the vet's. This boy is so happy and bouncy and full of energy and he clearly loves being with a family again. He was reported to be food aggressive, but we think the shelter marked the wrong dog's card, as we've not found a grumpy bone in his body - and we had to take chicken bones away from him that he found on a walk! Laramie gave them up without a fowl word! He's got some interesting markings - a green spot on his left flank! Vet thinks it's tattoo dye he must have rolled in while living on the streets as a stray. He's off to MI and his foster home!

Welcome Miles

This boy put in many miles to get to Col. Potter. He was a stray that ended up on the door step of some very concerned people that wanted to make sure he was safe and found a good home. They contacted another rescue group that put them in touch with CPCRN. He is a little guy, 9 pounds, and is believed to be 4 years old. One of our rescue angels, Kathy H., picked him up and took him to the vet to be examined, neutered and boarded. His picture looks cairn, but once Kathy could check him out, well let's just say he might be a designer dog, he looks like a cairnoodle! Miles will be traveling to Michigan to be fostered by Linda R. so he will be adding a few more miles to his journey. Thanks to everyone that helped Miles! CP will find a good home for this little guy.

Meet Freeloader!

Furkids find their way to the loving arms of Col. Potter in many different ways. This little boy's journey definitely had many rescue and guardian angels watching over him to get him this far. The Rescue Team monitors Petfinder classified ads. We found one that had listed three dogs that had been found starving in an abandoned home, supposedly one was a Cairn. There was one small terrier and two Pit Bulls found. At first the rescue angel just took food and water to the dogs in the abandoned home, but after a period of time, it was apparent no one was coming back for them and she took them home with her and tried to find their owners or rescue or adoptive homes for them. You can draw your own conclusions of what a young terrier was doing with young, and apparently not vicious, Pit Bulls.

Enter Col. Potter. After having received pictures, it was obvious that the young, male terrier was indeed a Cairn. The rescue angel gave of herself once more and personally delivered him to our vet in Missouri where he will be boarded and vetted before moving to a foster home.

The famous comedienne Red Skelton had a character named Freddie the Freeloader who was a hobo but always had flowers to offer as a gift. This little boy doesn't have flowers, but does have lots and lots of love to give as his gift.

Please help me welcome Freeloader to CP!!! We believe him to be 6-8 months old and currently weighs about 10 pounds. He even seems to have a little bit of "red" in his coat.

Freeloader will be ready to move to his foster home next weekend and is in need of someone to share his love with while waiting for his forever home. If you would like to foster a rescued dog check out our foster facts.

Welcome The Two Poets!

Last Monday CPCRN was contacted by another rescue about a breeder release in AR and could Col. Potter help the Cairns. CP contacted the Rescue Angel who was working directly with the miller to get the dogs released, and we were told there were 2 females and 1 male Cairn, all around 4 yrs old. With the help of the Rescue Angel and Deb S., the release and transport to one of our rescue vets was set up for Saturday.

Sadly, one of the girls we were to pick up did not make it into CP. At the last minute the breeder realized she was pregnant and will not release her until she whelps the puppies. Please say a prayer that this girl will still find her way to freedom.

April is poet’s month, so these kids are named in honor of Robert Frost and Emily Bronte. Frost is a reddish wheaten male with dark ears and seems to be the shyer of the two. Bronte is a reddish wheaten female with dark ears and wags her tail when spoken to.

Please help me welcome Bronte and Frost.....the two lucky furkids who made it to CP!

Welcome Tusia and Howard!

There are many good, caring people in this world willing to help out the furkids. Most millers operate in rural areas, away from most of the rest of society. They basically live in a different world than we do and many times are far removed from today's society.

In the middle of the American heartland there was a miller, probably more of a backyard breeder, who had purchased a male and female breeding pair of Cairns from another miller last spring. The female had whelped a litter of puppies and the male and female slept in the garage and spent their days wandering around the yard when allowed to be out loose. Accidentally, the female's rear leg was run over. Now the amazing part to me, is the miller actually had her leg repaired by a vet with a pin put in it. They were now afraid that being pregnant and whelping puppies might be too much for her injured leg to bear and decided to try to find both of them a good home. But everyone is that area is a miller and didn't want a "useless" breeder. They were just about to give up and have both of them PTS, when they contacted a lady who helps transport for another rescue organization and lives in the area. This lady became their Rescue Angel, contacting Col. Potter to see if we could help with them. This was the Rescue Angel's first real dealings with a miller and I helped her through the fine steps of "Dancing with the Devil".

A CPCRN volunteer met the Rescue Angel and picked up:
#2961 Tusia: Female, black brindle, 4 years old
#2962 Howard: Male, black brindle, 3 years old

We've run out of foster homes, but I couldn't say NO to these two babies. They are now part of the CP family and only good things lie ahead for them! Please help me welcome Tusia and Howard!

Foster Homes are always needed. If you would like more details about fostering, please refer to our Foster Home FAQs. If you have room in your heart and in your home to foster, please consider filling out the online Foster Home Application Form!
