And the Winner is… Merryn, the Biggest Loser!

Contributed by a CP Volunteer

Merryn enjoying the Sunshine

CP Merryn is a real Sweetie Pie, and living proof that Love of Family is all that matters!

I know there is a squirrel up there…

You see, this little girl was stuck in an outdoor pen, year-round, without proper care or exercise, so she came to Col. Potter in the Spring of 2012 as a neglected, about 6 lbs. overweight, itchy, smelly, unhappy creature, suffering hair loss and dry eye to boot.  Said to not like “kids that might poke her”, it was clear from her behavior that she had had less than exemplary treatment at the hands of her former circle of humans.

Merryn and Foster Brother, ready for Trick or Treat!

Merryn’s Foster Mom and Dad went right to work, cleaning her up, putting her on a good diet, putting drops in her eyes to ease her discomfort, and teaching her how good little Cairn girls behave in a loving family. Their reward for this effort is that today, Miss Merryn is a Merry little girl, down to her perfect weight, with a beautiful new coat of hair and a more beautiful bounce in her step!  Instead of creaking and groaning with each step, Merryn can now be found frisking and frolicking, at home and out on a walk!

In addition to that, Miss Merry proved what a steady girl she was when an autistic boy grabbed her at the beach, yet she was calm and respectful throughout the encounter.  This is one smart cookie!  Smart and sweet!

Merryn loves her back rubs…

…Almost as much as she loves her belly rubs!

Merryn’s birth date is 4/16/04, she now weighs in at a healthy fifteen pounds.  She stands up, sits, or shakes hands for treats. And she sits and waits for her meal to be served – most of the time!  Her beautiful Brindle coat is getting healthier every day, and her charming eyes now sparkle all the time!

Merryn sporting her new Santa hat…

O.K., the treats do help!

She has learned to get along well with her two Cairn Foster siblings, but would probably be most happy as an only dog.  Probably, but maybe not…  Just recently, Foster Dad offered special treats, not realizing that the path was somewhat blocked, and Foster Sister came barreling in from the next room, plowing directly into little Merryn, who simply picked herself up and cheerfully joined Foster Sister for treats!  Pretty impressive for a little girl who supposedly didn’t like other dogs!  She is a sweet, sweet, sweet little girl, with Lots of love to give!  If you have some room in your heart, this Merry little girl is ready to bound into your life and snuggle in to fill all your empty spaces!

Merryn has done a wonderful job losing weight!

Well, it isn’t always so easy to stick to the diet!

Merryn wishes you a Merry Christmas!  Can you help make her Christmas Merry?

McEban joins the CP family!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please give a warm welcome to a sweet gentleman, McEban.

McEban is a darling, yet a little tubby. He's 8 years young. He needed a new home without children, so his family worked with Col. Potter to give him a chance at a good life. He is going to lose some of his extra padding and attend boot camp to modify any inappropriate behaviors.

I expect he will do very well, as initial reports are glowing! He will be ready for his new family shortly.

A New Boy Joins CP

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Sometimes life throws us a curve ball. When Baxley’s mom unexpectedly had to take in her father’s cairn, Baxley had to move. Mom lives in one of those places that has strict limits on number of pets allowed and contacted us for help. Baxley is now a Col. Potter kid enjoying his new life and waiting for a new family to welcome him into their home. The volunteers who helped with his transport all described him as a sweet, friendly, and happy boy.

Today, Baxley is celebrating his 8th birthday. Welcome birthday boy!

Bucky joins CP!

Written CP Intakes volunteer

CP welcomes Bucky, a sweet 8 year old wheaten cairn boy. He was surrendered to a vet who contacted another rescue for help. That rescue referred the vet to Col Potter. We have worked quite a bit in together the past, so they knew the level of care we provide, hoped we could help Bucky.

Bucky is reported to be very sweet and friendly, loving to follow his people around. He is heading to his foster home tomorrow, as long as the weather cooperates! He is going to make an adoptive family very happy!

Silk's video debut

Contributed by Silk's foster mom

Silk is 8 years old and she was rescued last year and had her last litter of pups in the loving arms of Col. Potter. She is currently being fostered in Virginia and you can go to our website to learn more about her and all of the wonderful cairns we have that are available for adoption.

She came to B&B with us last month and despite her fears she seemed to thrive on the change so we decided to foster her.

Silk is so sweet and is learning that humans CAN be good - especially when they give you body rubs and ear scritches. She absolutely loves Ed and the feeling is mutual. The first day we had her he was sending me pictures of her on the phone with the caption "The little princess."

But Silk is MOST happy when she can run around outside. Unfortunately we live in a townhouse and have a very small yard, but on our recent visit to West Virginia she was able to take advantage of our big fenced area there and she ran and galloped and cavoted, all the time with a big doggie smile on her face.

I managed to capture some of it on video (she's afraid of the camera) and will be sending to be added to her web listing. I really hope this touches someone willing to give this little mill mama a chance. She's the first "typical" mill mama we've fostered and I have to say that we all (including our sons) rejoice with every new brave step she takes.

Silk is the wheaten in the purple harness running around and doing a little dance. Chewy is the larger wheaten doing his Eeyore shuffle.

DISCLAIMER: It may look like the dogs are running loose in the middle of the woods, but actually we were on a "trail" right next to the cabin (the cabin was directly to the left I just never got it in the shot) and there's a wire fence through the trees on the right side of the trail and then across behind where Ed is standing in the red shirt. If we take them any further up the trail we then put a leash on them. Believe me - I would NEVER let them run loose in the woods of West Virginia!!

Riso joins CP!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Riso lived his early years with an elderly couple, who no longer had the energy for such an active pet. He found himself dumped at a Midwest Humane Society. Luckily, he was adopted by a new family who kept him for several years. Sadly, allergies developed and Riso, now 8 years old, found himself in need of a home. Riso is reportedly playful, funny, healthy, and very active.

Please give Riso a big Col. Potter welcome!

A GREAT PROPHET COMES TO CP!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

A prophet is described as a person who has been contacted by, or has encountered, the supernatural or the divine, and is often one who serves as an intermediary with humanity, delivering his or her new found knowledge from the supernatural entity to other humans.

Col. Potter's Prophet comes to us through no fault of his own, but rather is a victim of the economy and hard times. He is 8 years old, loves all he meets including adults, kids, dogs and even cats. All he wants to do is play and be loved.

I believe his prophecy is one of a happily ever after! Please help me welcome Prophet to the Col. Potter family!
