Delaney Dances the Two-step into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Delaney, a 5 year old Wheaten Male

For the first five years of his life, Delaney lived happily with his owners.  When his owners' situation changed, Delaney faced multiple life changes.  Ultimately, Delaney was placed with a small Rescue that wasn't well versed with the robust personality common among Cairns.  A call for help was sent out and CP was pleased to bring Delaney into the family.

While Delaney has a larger structure for a Cairn, at 27 lbs, he could also afford to lose a few pounds, and he will be working on this at his CP Foster Home.  This happy boy gets along with people and dogs, and he knows multiple commands.

Please welcome this handsome 5 year old Wheaten boy, Delaney!

Neville Learns the Magic of Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Neville, a 5 year old Wheaten Male

Everyone that has read the Harry Potter books knows of Neville Longbottom.  Poor Neville lost his parents at a young age and grew up with confidence issues.  In the end, with the love and support of his friends, Neville grew into a brave and confident young man.

CP now welcomes our own Neville!

When this 5 year old boy's owner passed away, he and four canine companions were separated and sent to a shelter.  The traumatic changes and the shelter environment were difficult for Neville.  He arrived at CP's vet in need of a good grooming and TLC.

Welcome Neville to the love and friendship of Col. Potter!

Miss Wright can do no Wrong!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Wright, a 2 year old Wheaten Female

Let’s give a big CP Welcome to Miss Wright!

This little two year old girl is an owner surrender.  Her mom and dad's life style has been changed and they found they could no longer keep her.  They decided to contact Col. Potter to see if we could help, and we were happy that we could take her in.

Wright was named by Cindy M. in memory of Bonnie B's mother, thanks to our Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  Wright is known to be very friendly and sweet, and she gets along great with other dogs!  She is now at the vet having her spa treatments.

Please join us as we open our arms and give Miss Wright a great big warm and loving Welcome!

Ingemar, 7 year old Black Brindle Male

Renate, 7 year old Wheaten Female

Vreni, 6 year old Black Brindle Female

The most successful downhill skier of all times is Ingemar Stenmark from Sweden who won 86 World Cup competitions and several gold medals in the Olympics.  Two of the top 5 female downhill skiers having the most World Cup wins are Vreni Schneider (SUI), with 55, and Renate Götschl (AUT), with 46.

Three gorgeous Cairns skied into CP's Rescue lodge, looking for a warm respite.  While they love the snow and cold, everyone needs a chance to warm up at night.

Please help us welcome CPs Skiers:

Ingemar - 7 year old Black Brindle boy with one drop ear
Renate - 7 year old Wheaten girl
Vreni - 6 year old Black Brindle girl

All three had their spa treatments and are heading to their foster homes this weekend. Safe travels for all!

Welcome, Skiers~

Introducing the Fetching Miss Violet Talullah!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Violet Talullah, a fetching 6 year old Wheaten girl

CP has a wonderful way to honor a loved one!!   "Name a Rescue Cairn" provides a thoughtful name to a rescued Cairn and contributes to future rescues!   CP's newest addition is a beautiful 6 year old Wheaten girl, named in memory of  Susan D's sweet Talullah who crossed Rainbow Bridge earlier this year.  Thank you Stacie S. for your generous contribution!

Violet Talullah is one very lucky Cairn girl!  She wandered into the home of a good Samaritan who searched for Violet Talullah's owner.  When an owner could not be located, this kind and generous person ensured that Violet Talullah's health was good and her vaccinations were brought up to date.  The next step was to ensure that Violet Talullah found a good home.  CP was happy to assist, and welcomed this happy girl into the family.  Violet Talullah enjoys people and dogs, and adores tennis balls!  She loves to play fetch and is known to trot all around with a tennis ball in her mouth.

Please welcome this adorable girl!

Tumbleweed Rolls into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Tumbleweed, 8 year old Wheaten Male

Please welcome this very handsome 17 lb, 8 year old boy!

Tumbleweed's owners surrendered him to a high intake shelter because of family issues.  Happily, Col. Potter was able to step in to help Tumbleweed find his forever home!  This boy plays well with other dogs and is good with cats!  He also, not surprisingly, enjoys exploring the great outdoors.  Tumbleweed will make his way to his foster home this weekend.

Welcome Tumbleweed!

Persimmon Spices Up Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Persimmon, 6 year old Wheaten Male in OR

Persimmon is a 6 year old male Cairn whose Owner was elderly, sick, and could not take care of him any longer.  Col. Potter was contacted, and, fortunately for him, “Percy” became one of  CP’s newest furkids!

He is reportedly good with other dogs and cats, and likes to ride in the car.  He's a good watchdog, and knows some commands.

Let’s all give this “feisty little guy” a warm CP Welcome!

Let’s Zoom in on Turbo!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Turbo, a 2 year old Wheaten Male

Please give a warm CP welcome to Turbo!

This handsome 2 year old boy is a happy and energetic little guy!  He was originally a shelter stray that got adopted from the shelter.  He lived with his new family for about a year.  When the family needed to find him a new home, a friend of the family took him in, temporarily, hoping to find the right new family.

Turbo, zooming into view!

After several months, and no good prospects coming forward, the Good Samaritan contacted us to see if we could take this little boy.  Fortunately, we could!

Welcome Turbo!

Let’s Give a Big Welcome to Madeira!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Madeira, a 12 lb. Wheaten Beauty, 1-2 years old

A gorgeous little girl has joined the CP family!  Madeira is estimated to be 1-2 years old.  She was adopted from a shelter a few weeks ago with the intention of giving her to a friend’s relative.  However, it was soon decided that she was too young and energetic for their lifestyle, so the adopter contacted us to see if we could take her rather than returning her to the shelter.  Fortunately we had room for her!

So welcome little girl!  I’m betting it won’t be long until we find just the right family for you!

A Hearty Welcome for Nikita!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Nikita, 7 year old Wheaten female

Please welcome our newest little girl to CP!  She's an owner surrender who's Mom was working too many hours and did not have the much needed time to spend with her.  She seems to be really sweet and loves attention, however she does not like the vet's office!  She is having her spa day and will be moving in with her Foster Mom on Saturday.

Let's all please give Nikita a warm welcome as she starts a new and wonderful journey in her life!

Please Give a Warm Welcome to Addy!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Addy, a 5 year old Wheaten sweetheart

Please welcome Addy to the CP family!  She came to us from a small, all-breed rescue because she was a little too active for their non-cairn experienced foster home.  She’s been bounced around a lot for a 5 year old little girl.  Her first home purchased her as a puppy from a pet store and by the time she was 8 months old she was with a rescue group.  After several months she was adopted and lived with her family for 3 years until they dropped her off at a shelter because they were moving out of the country.  The rescue group that had her earlier found her at the shelter and took her back into their rescue.

She just arrived at her CP foster home and is hoping this time around she will finally find that forever family that she deserves.

A Big Thanksgiving Welcome for Brador!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Brador, a handsome 7 year old Wheaton boy

Introducing Brador, a beautiful Wheaten boy, 7 years old, and a good 17 lbs. of solid love!  There's a bit of mystery about him -- his latest owner only had him for two months, and we don't know why his owner before that had to give him up.  But the latest said that he seemed sad, and was not very playful and didn't seem to like it where he was.  And he was a "picky eater."!!?    Ooooookay...  So Col. Potter was called in!

Getting Brador into the arms of Col. Potter proved to be a real challenge because of very unforgiving geography.  This little guy came from a fairly remote area without recourse to many volunteers at all.  And for that reason, I would especially like to thank Jennifer T. for stepping forward, not once, but twice, driving over 9 hours in two trips to get this worthy little cairn where he needed to be.  Like so many others here, she's got the stuff that volunteers are made of!

Well, since Jennifer picked him up, not-so-sad Brador has been wagging his tail and having a good time with all the attention he's getting.  He's now snuggled into his foster home and will soon be ready to share his happy life with somebody new.  By the way, Brador's birthday was Nov. 21st -- so let's welcome him to Col. Potter with Thanksgiving and some hearty Birthday Wishes!

A Warm Welcome to Little Forester!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Warning:  If you have cute-protection glasses, now would be the time to put them on!

 Forester 9 months old

Please welcome little Forester to our Col. Potter clan!  This wee Wheaten dude, all 10 lbs and 9 months of him, was just not fitting in too well with the family who brought him in to live with them.  Those humans, well they just couldn't understand that a Cairn fella’ has things he has to do and places he's gotta’ go.  So the humans thought this little adventurer might do better with somebody who understood a guy like him a little better than they did.  And they called in Col. Potter knowing that we were just the ticket for what this little dude needed.  So Forester packed his bags and came on over to be with us.

Let's all give this little big Cairn our famous CP welcome!

Honoring The Family Ties

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes
Ed J - 3 year old, Wheaten Male
Mildred - 8 year old, Red Wheaten Female
Patricia Ann - 6 year old, Wheaten Female

I'm going to start this one off with a tissue alert...  While this is a time of joy and happiness for the Family Ties Kids, it is also a time to remember and reflect back on the lives of three very special and important people in the lives of CP family members.  All three of the Family Ties were from our Name a Cairn Program.  This program is such a tremendous way to remember and cherish special lives those that have been a part of us and are now gone, the Name a Cairn Program.  So many find comfort in not only knowing that their loved ones live on in a Cairn, but also in watching that Cairn throughout their journey with CP in finding a forever home.  I know from personal experience how moving this is for those that have been the recipients of this wonderful program.

The Family Ties are enjoying their first days of freedom, complete with a spa treatment before moving to their foster homes this weekend.  Without further ado, please help me Welcome Family Ties:

#5450 Ed J - 3 year old, wheaton male - donated by the Intakes Team in loving memory of our own Sharon J's husband,  Ed, who succumbed to pancreatic cancer just a month ago

#5442 Patricia Ann - 6 year old, wheaton female - donated by Kathy T. in memory of her soulmate and Karin M's mom, Patricia, who left us earlier this year

#5444 Mildred - 8 year old, red wheaton female and mother of Patricia Ann - donated by Angela T. in memory of her grandmother who just passed away the end of October

May all three of these furkids live a long, healthy and happy life in honor of those they were named for…

Please join us in Welcoming The Family Ties!

Pippa pops into CP

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

The Col. Potter family welcomes cairns from a variety of situations. Some cairns are rescued from dire circumstances while others come from loving environments.

The newest addition to the Col. Potter family has taken all her life changes in stride. CP's Pippa stepped out of her travel crate with her tail wagging and eager to greet everyone. The name Pippa means Lover of Horses. This 6 year old girl is a lover of all: adults, children, dogs. Well, maybe not birds and squirrels which she chases with delight.

Pippa charms everyone with her happy personality and her big brown doe eyes. Her foster family was completely smitten within 24 hours of her arrival. Pippa fit in as though she had always been a part of the family.

Please give a warm welcome to dear little Pippa.

Gunn rescued by Col. Potter

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

What happens when a cairn pup decides the best pastime is to chase cars?

Leash him?
Built a secure fence?
Build a kennel run?

NOPE.

Take him to the vet to be euthanized.

Luckily for our new baby Gunn, the wonderful vet would NOT do that to him. He immediately called a cairn owner client, who he knew worked with Col. Potter, and asked for HELP!

CP jumped into action and said YES, we can help!

Today was truly Gunn's lucky day, not PTS, not left with an owner and at risk for 'catching' that car, and ending up with a group of people who will be certain he has a LONG, happy, safe life. Sweet Gunn will B&B until moving to a foster home.

Welcome, Gunn! And THANK YOU to the vet for saying NO!

Welcome Halyard!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please give a warm CP welcome to our new gentleman, Halyard. This handsome wheaten cairn is 11 years old and needed a quieter life than the one he was living. Multiple young children in the home is not always the best match for a cairn of his distinguished standing. He needed a safe haven to live out his golden years, where his only concern would be dozing in the warm sun, chasing critters, and getting tummy rubs. Lucky for him, CP was able to meet his requirements!

Welcome, Halyard!

Sela joins the CP family!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

This adorable little 3 year old girl became a Col. Potter kid recently. Early reports are that she loves everyone, gets along well with other dogs, is housebroken, crate trained, loves playing with toys and getting her belly rubbed. Her only downside is she is a relentless squirrel chaser. Of course aren’t most self-respecting cairns squirrel chasers?

Sela is at her foster home, ready to begin her new life! So welcome to the family, little Miss Sela – we’ll find you a perfect new home!

Welcome Jada!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please welcome Col. Potter's newest girl, Jada. This absolutely adorable, wheaten cairn girl is 3 years old and ready for some fun! She was dumped two years ago by her original owner, and taken in by a very caring woman. As we see happening so often lately, life threw a bunch of unexpected changes to this woman, and she could no longer give Jada the loving caring home she deserved. Ool. Potter stepped in anc came to the rescue. This little one has no reported issues, other than being too cute! She is having her spa treatment tomorrow, and then heading to her foster home.

Get a good look now, because I imagine the applications will fly in for this doll!

Ajali joins the Col. Potter family

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please welcome Col. Potter's newest girl, Ajali. This sweet 8 year old red wheaten girl was loved by her family. But changes in their living environment along with the addition of young children were not a happy thing for Ajali. She missed her fenced in yard freedom and had no way to get rid of excess energy. She loved (too much) the eye level and dropped food, courtesy of the toddlers. She was having to spend far too much time isolated for her own and the toddlers' safety.

Her family realized it was not at all fair to her, and that her past happiness was gone. So they made the heartfelt decision to find a better life for her. One where she would be the star.

Ajali will find her happiness again, thanks to the hard work of CP's volunteers.

Welcome, Ajali!
