Stevie Bear Strikes a Pose for Col. Potter!

Stevie Bear, a 3 year old, 15 lb. Wheaten Male

The CP family has expanded to include a sweet and frightened little boy!  Stevie Bear is a 15 lb, 3 yr old who was found as a stray in a high volume, rural shelter, and he was a mess:  His coat was overgrown, tangled, and matted.  A kind groomer offered her services to clean up this sweet boy.  Just look at what an adorable little boy emerged from all the mess!  

Despite Stevie Bear's newly emerged good looks, he was not adopted, and his time was running out, so a kind shelter representative contacted Col. Potter.  A wonderful CP volunteer was able to meet a shelter transport and whisk Stevie Bear to safety!

BooBoo Blizzard Blows into Col. Potter!

BooBoo Blizzard, a 3 year old Brindle Boy

Our furkids are spoiled, pampered, dressed in sweaters and coats to go out and play in the snow; some even wear boots to keep their paws warm and dry.  When they've had enough snow, cold, and ice, they have a nice, warm home inviting them back inside where a treat probably awaits them.  Wouldn't that be nice if all furkids had such a life and didn't have to live out in the elements anymore?

One boy found just such a life today when he became a member of the CP family.  He will no longer have to endure long, cold Winters outside.  He has found the good life!

His name comes from our Name a Rescue Cairn Program.  It is very poignant and meaningful considering where this boy came from and the season...

Please help us give a warm CP welcome to #5287 BooBoo Blizzard, reported to be 3 years old.  His name is donated by Bobbie B. in memory of her son's family dog, Blizzard, who was found as a puppy, abandoned in a snow drift on the side of a country road in AR.  Luckily, Bobbie's son was there, restoring power after an ice storm, and brought him in from the cold.  He had been a much loved family member and was grand daughter Gracie's first dog.  When Gracie was little, she called him BooBoo. 

Intakes has already brought in more furkids thus far in January than during the entire month of December.  Our once comfortable list of available Foster Homes has dwindled down to just a few remaining.  PLEASE consider becoming a Foster Home and helping a furkid like BooBoo Blizzard find a happily ever after.  If you are an approved Foster Home and have room for a foster currently, please let us know.

Mimzie Makes an Entrance!

Mimzie, Wheaten Female, about 3 years old

This past Saturday, while many of us were kicking back and enjoying a little football, the Intakes Team's own Carolynne M. was having a very busy day!   In the morning, she was the first leg of the transport to get LeeCee to her foster home.  In the afternoon, she was headed right back where she had just been on LeeCee's transport, but this time to pick-up a little Cairn girl and welcome her to Freedom!  Unfortunately, the timing of Freedom can't always be aligned to make it convenient, but runs on it's own schedule!

Carolynne reports that this little girl is very friendly and likes to play with toys.  She is reported to be about 3 years old.  Her name comes from our Name a Rescue Cairn Program and with Valentine's Day only a month away, what a GREAT, living Valentine's Day gift for a special person in your life!

Please give a BIG CP WELCOME to #6254 Mimzie, donated by Kimberly S. for our own Amy R. to choose the name.  Amy chose the name Mimzie after her very first Cairn, adopted in 1988, and it's because of her love that Amy is here today.

Welcome Hedger to CP!

Baby, it's hot outside!! Much of the U.S. is just sizzling with record, prolonged heat and very little rain. Livestock is suffering and if you are one of the unfortunate animals that has to live outside, this is just pure misery.

Hedger is a 3 year old male who has been passed around from family to family. He ended up with a family who kept him tied to the front porch--morning, noon and night--no matter what the weather. This family fell on hard times and were facing eviction from their home which meant Hedger would be passed to yet another family. Lucky for him he was passed to a neighbor who is involved with Westie Rescue and got in touch with CP immediately to help this boy. July 4 became Independence Day for Hedger. He will never again have to live tied on the front porch.

Hedger is a donated name from Pamela B. Please remember the Name a Cairn Program is a great remembrance of someone special or gift for the person who has everything. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Normally, the saying is come in out of the cold. In Hedger's case, it's come in out of the heat! Come on in Hedger, the temperature's just right in the Col. Potter family!

It is a great day when royalty graces Col. Potter! MacNaughton, a 3 year old owner surrender, is joining the CP family in search of a new castle to call his own. The MacNaugton clan is very old, perhaps the oldest in Scotland, and is full of stoic, strong individuals. This clan always stood their ground in the face of adversity.

Sir MacNaughton enjoys walks on the moors and affection from kind people with gentle hands. Our MacNaughton has faced some rough seas in his life but has risen above it all with his cairn spirit. And speaking of spirits, MacNaughton is also known for a fine whiskey. So let's raise our glasses in a toast to MacNaughton! May better times and a bright future be yours!

This adorable little 3 year old boy got dropped off by his family at an overcrowded shelter yesterday. The shelter called us with an urgent plea for help. Fortunately, we were able to get him. The shelter describes him as a happy, friendly boy that doesn’t particularly like cats (he barks at them), seems fine with other dogs and lived in a home with children.

Kashtuk joins Col. Potter

Please give a warm welcome to Col. Potter's newest addition. Kashtuk is a Chumash Native American word meaning "eyes". Could this sweet 3 year old boy's beautiful eyes have helped save him? Or maybe it is his loving personality and the many kisses he lavishes on people? Representatives at the high kill shelter held this sweet boy two weeks beyond the normal 5 day hold period. Time was running short when CP learned about his situation.

Many thanks to CP's fast acting volunteer, Charlene M., who drove 3 hours in heavy traffic to rescue Kashtuk. After a week at the spa, Kashtuk will join his foster family.

Minx is a charming 3-year-old cairn girl who is very sweet natured and playful with good energy. This beautiful little girl was in a shelter fighting off skin and ear infections when she started out on her journey towards the arms of CP.

Please help me welcome Col. Potter's new young man, Mickelson. This gorgeous gray brindle 3 year-old found himself surrendered to a shelter when his owner headed off to college. Mickelson is described as typical terrier: exuberant, vocal, full of energy.

He is heading to a foster home this weekend, and I imagine it won't be long before he is adopted!

Recently a cute, little, healthy, squirrel crazy, ball playing, cat chasing, 3 year old girl named Allyriane became the latest Col. Potter princess. Her family's situation changed due to jobs, travel and relocation. Faced with all the changes in our current economy, her family wanted to make sure this sweet cairn girl would be able to have a new home that was safe, secure and loving. Col. Potter said yes -we can help find all that and more for Allyriane.

Allyriane has unpacked her bags at her foster home and adjusting to the big change. She's already taken a nice walk and impressed everyone with her great leash skills. Allyriane is a ready to go princess and a welcome addition to the Col. Potter family. Thank you to everyone for making it possible for Allyriane to be a Col. Potter kid!

Rothko joins CP!

Rothko is a cute, dark brindle boy and estimated to be 3 years old. He has had a rough start in his life and ended up in the shelter only to be adopted and then returned. When the shelter manager contacted Intakes to help Rothko. Shelter workers knew that a cairn rescue was the place for Rothko where any family interested would be screened and understand what Rothko needs in a family. We were able to say Yes because of all the great volunteers that give of their time and funds to help cairns in need.

Rothko's future is now looking up and I’m sure it won’t be long before he has a family that truly understands him! He is having his spa treatment this week and is said to be a sweetheart by the staff. He will be headed to his foster home this next weekend and a new chance to a new beginning!

Meet Amber, CP's newest jewel

Meet Amber, a gorgeous 3 year old red wheaten girl. Amber has a little too much “terrier attitude” and her former parents didn’t quite know how to handle it, so they contacted Col. Potter for help. She’s bunking out this week in a temporary foster home, and initial reports describe her as a sweetheart, who gives exuberant kisses and rolls over for tummy rubs. Plus she’s housebroken, playful and gallops around tossing toys, chasing balls and entertaining herself. She’s heading to her foster home next weekend and will be receiving a little attitude adjustment training – along with the all love and nurturing that little cairns need.

Please help welcome Macadie. This sweet 3 year old girl is a typical owner surrender to a shelter: new baby equals dog has to go. She is a typical confident, energetic cairn. She is friendly, happy, strong. Her coat is a lovely light gray brindle. She does need to drop a few pounds, but that should come easily at her foster home.

Today we welcome CP's newest furkid Rosso. Rosso is red in Italian and that is a perfect name for this 3 yr old red wheaten boy. Big brown eyes that will melt you. Our new boy is a little round but his foster mom will take care of that.

Life changes affect everyone and Rosso was a victim of those changes. He has been well loved since a puppy and CP will find him the perfect home to continue his good life.

There is a new girl in CP town!

Meet Kamber! She is a pretty wheaten girl just short of her 3rd birthday in July. She loves to play ball, knows commands such as sit, down, give paw, speak, and gets along well with other dogs.

But she became stressed when a new baby was added to her home. As the baby became a toddler, her stress grew much worse and it became clear that this girl really needed a home without young children. Her owners really wanted to ensure that she found another loving home, but without little people and, after hearing about Col. Potter, felt we were the best organization to ask for help.

Abba says "Take a Chance on Me!"

Life is a series of circles. The circle of the seasons each year. The circle of being born, being loved and eventually passing on to a better place. This story is about the continuity of 2 circles. The first circle has been completed. A little wheaten girl by the name of Abby lived in high cotton loved totally by her mom, watching and helping many cousins make their way to happy homes. As life went on, although she had the best of care, her little body began to fail. Then one night she left her tortured body and arrived at the bridge so that she would again be a happy feisty girl free from the constraints of her earthly pain.

The next circle has a rough beginning. A little brindle girl was owned by a small town backyard breeder and was bred over and over in her short 3 yr life. Then when the litters were no longer surviving she was given away to people who really didn't care and let her run the streets. After being picked up by animal control she finally came to a kind lady who owned a small grooming shop. This tiny little girl was cleaned up, loved on and played with while they looked for an appropriate home for her. When no suitable home could be located in their area she contacted Col Potter to see if we could help.

As we always try to do, we found a way to bring her into the family. So in honor of a loved and cherished girl we will name our new girl searching for her first loving home. Please help me welcome Abba named for Carolynne McC's Abby. As usual in the summer months we are a little short on foster homes. If you could find it in your heart and home to foster Abba, Please contact Robin or Valerie or apply to become a foster home if you haven't already done so. Remember, if you have adopted a CP dog in the past, the process is much quicker! Abba is currently in Iowa receiving a much needed spa visit.

Please Welcome Col. Potter's Jacques!

Jacques came to us as an owner surrender from a family that just didn't understand the terrier personality. They had met their first Cairn while camping next to an older couple who had a well mannered older guy. Then came the visit to the backyard breeder for a puppy. Three years later they have a young male who has a high prey drive and is very energetic. He has started to become highly agitated when the teens have their friends over . How many times have we heard this same storyline?

At this point they have given up trying to work with him. Obedience school doesn't help. They don't understand why he isn't settling down like their lab. Jacques got caught up in a family that loved him but didn't understand him and they contacted CP for help. Can we please find him a home that understands his quirky behavior? Through the generous donations of our supporters we can say yes we can help. So begins Jacques new journey. Jacques name is in honor of our Canadian volunteers who stepped up to help this little guy get to his new foster home.

Welcome Oswego!

Oswego is almost 3 years old and an active wheaten boy. He came to Col. Potter as an owner surrender. Oswego's owner got him as a puppy and fell in love with him. The owners were elderly and over time caring for Oswego became difficult. Being a cairn, Oswego enjoyed the secret goodies he received from his dad - such as bagels, cold cuts & ice cream (to name a few). His mom couldn't figure out why Oswego wouldn't eat his dinner and was getting plump! With lack of exercise and the secret diet, Oswego became overweight. As it became more difficult for the owners to care for Oswego, a family member selflessly offered to became his caretaker until a rescue could be found. Oswego had a change of diet and lost 5 pounds! He received training and exercise. Oswego would run along with the children rollerblading. He also got to meet and interact with other dogs. The family dearly loved Oswego but it was so difficult for the elderly man to see Oswego without getting teary eyed when he visited his family. The family sadly said goodbye to Oswego as he headed for his new life with Col. Potter. It was the ultimate gift they could give him.

Welcome Declan the Man!

Declan is an owner surrender, that's 3 years old. This is a sad story for him as we get many owner surrenders because the owners just haven't researched the cairn breed before they get them. He just had too much energy and needs someone that is willing to take the time to train him to be all that he can be as a cairn. The family felt that they just couldn't give him what he needed. Well, we have cairn experienced homes just waiting for the right cairn to be matched with them so, Matchmakers make "Declan" a match!

Thanks to all the volunteers that helped get him to Colleen D. who was willing to take this boy to foster until he has his forever family. He is one cutie and I'm sure he will be matched in no time!!
