Gecko sticks himself to Col. Potter

This handsome little, 11 pound, 3-5 year old cairn was dropped off at a shelter by his family because of an accidental bite. The story was that he and another intact male got into a squabble over a female dog in heat, all living in the same house. The owner’s teenage daughter tried to break it up and got nipped on the knee – nothing serious, just a little nip. But, the shelter had to accept him and put him in quarantine for 10 days. After his jail time was up he only had two options – find a rescue to take him or euthanization. Fortunately, Col Potter was able to say YES and once again saved the life of a little cairn who had been unfairly tried and convicted.

The shelter staff reports that he’s a great little dog, super friendly, has no issues with other dogs, he loves walks and behaved perfectly getting a bath. Our wonderful volunteer who picked him up  said “he is just precious – reminds me of the original Toto. He’s very calm and loves being held.”

This extremely handsome little 3-5 year old cairn became a Col. Potter kid this week. He was picked up by Animal Services and taken to a small urban shelter. He had no microchip or tags and the shelter was unsuccessful locating his owner. The shelter supervisor was very surprised that no one came looking for him since he’s well groomed, well fed, very sociable and may even be housebroken. The shelter does not have an adoption program and contacted us to see if we could take him, which fortunately, we could.

Volunteer Marsha picked him up from the shelter this week and said he’s a real sweetheart, albeit a little overweight. He even gave her a kiss on her cheek while she was dressing him with his harness and collar. He’ll be spending the week at the vet and heading to his foster home next weekend.

Frisbee flies into CP!

Frisbee was found as a stray and turned in to a small shelter. No one came to claim him and he was running out of time. A shelter volunteer contacted us for help. Fortunately, one of our volunteers who attended the WI cairn party was traveling in the general vicinity of the shelter on her way home and offered to pick him up and deliver him to the vet.

From all accounts, he sounds almost perfect!! “As sweet as can be”, “likes everyone”, “gives lots of kisses”, “housebroken” “walks great on a leash” “likes other dogs”. And besides all that he’s very handsome with his dark muzzle and multi-colored coat. Frisbee is estimated to be between 3 and 5 years old and weighs about 15 lbs.

Unfortunately someone gave him a very bad haircut (most likely using just scissors). But it will grow back and he’ll be even more handsome.

Welcome little guy! We’ll find the perfect home for you.

WELCOME TO THE SUMMER PRESERVES!!

It's the time of year when the luscious fruits and vegetables are all in season and those people that are talented enough will can and preserve them for future enjoyment during the long, cold winter. Much like the fruits and vegetables, it seems Cairns have also come into season and are ripe for the pickin'!

While we don't want to can or preserve them, we do want to savor and enjoy them for a long time to come! Three little Cairns found themselves at a shelter in Missouri, seized by the Dept. of Agriculture from a bad situation and then delivered to the shelter for processing. This shelter is overwhelmed from a recent Puppy Mill shutdown of more than 60 dogs and needed all the help they could get. The more that they could get adopted or to rescue, the more time the others would have before being put to sleep. We have worked with this shelter in the past and I was the first one they called asking for assistance. Please help me Welcome the Summer Preserves:

Jam: female, 3.5 years old, wheaten - she's a little timid but likes attention once you get her in your arms



Jelly: female, 2 years old, wheaten - she comes right up to you to be picked up and loved on

Chutney: male, 5 years old, red wheaten with black ears - he's a little more shy and fearful, but once in your arms,he relaxes

My THANKS once again to our volunteers for making the trip to pick-up the Summer Preserves and for the photos. They are certainly a sweet treat and will long be enjoyed and loved into the winter and far beyond!

Say Hello to our newest CP kid, Dalton!

Please give a warm welcome to a new CP kid. Dalton found himself a stray in Connecticut, where he was picked up and brought to the local shelter. He was microchipped, but as we hear all too often, his chip was not registered so his owner could not be found. The chip was traced back to the petshop where Dalton was purchased and based on this we were able to know that he is about 3.5 years old.

Dalton has some skin issues including hair loss around his tail and on his back. We suspect that it is nothing that good food, and good care won't cure. He is boarding and getting his vet care brought up to date, and will head to Chris C. for fostering. Welcome Dalton!!
