Stitch Strolls into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Stitch, 8 years old, Black Brindle Male

The CP family welcomed a sweet and very friendly Black Brindle boy this weekend. Stitch lived the entire 8 years of his life with a loving family.

This happy boy knows many tricks:  sit, sit pretty, lay, leave it, go potty, and the dreaded "bath".  During his life, Stitch has battled itchy skin and hair loss, and he has obediently, but reluctantly, endured many medicated baths.

Upon joining the CP family, Stitch was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. With medication and a good grain free diet, this little boy should soon find relief!

Welcome, Stitch!

O Canada Redux!

Contributed by CP's VP of Intakes

Banff, 8 year old Light Wheaten Female

Kootenay, 8 year old Red Wheaten Female

They say good things come to those that wait...  Some wait by choice, but others have to wait out of necessity, because they have to.  Remember back to the beginning of November when CP welcomed a group of Cairns known as the O'Canada group?  Well, there were two females missing from that group, not by choice, but out of necessity and because they had to.

Why you ask?  Because they had both just whelped a litter of puppies and they had to be good mamas to their babies.  Now those babies have been weaned and have found their own homes, and these two girls were not forgotten by CP.  By keeping in touch, we were able to arrange for them both to find their way to the loving arms of the CP family this weekend, and they have now found the good things in life!

The members of the O'Canada group were named after cities in Canada as part of the Name a Cairn Program thanks to a generous donation by our BC Canadian Volunteers, the proceeds from their labor, parking cars at a multi-day dog show event.  These two girls will remain connected to the others and are named after two Canadian National Parks.

#4359 Banff:  Female, Light Wheaten, DOB 12/20/04
#4360 Kootenay:  Female, Red Wheaten, DOB 12/13/04

Please help us welcome Banff and Kootenay to the CP family!

Tumbleweed Rolls into Col. Potter!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Tumbleweed, 8 year old Wheaten Male

Please welcome this very handsome 17 lb, 8 year old boy!

Tumbleweed's owners surrendered him to a high intake shelter because of family issues.  Happily, Col. Potter was able to step in to help Tumbleweed find his forever home!  This boy plays well with other dogs and is good with cats!  He also, not surprisingly, enjoys exploring the great outdoors.  Tumbleweed will make his way to his foster home this weekend.

Welcome Tumbleweed!

Introducing Merryn

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Merryn is a 15lb, 8 year old female cairn whose owners decided they no longer had the time or money to keep her anymore. She has skin allergies and even though she is said to be housebroken, her owners kept her outside all the time.

Fortunately for Merryn, her owners found Col. Potter. Merryn was surrendered to CP this week and taken directly to a vet clinic. She is now inside, bathed, and will spend the next week at the “spa” until she is transported to her foster home.

Let’s all give a big CP welcome to this little girl.

Please Welcome Honey Bun

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

A hundred and one pounds of fun, that’s our little Honey Bun! That's from the musical South Pacific, but our Honey Bun is actually only 15 lbs. Thank goodness!

Honey Bun had a rough start in life. She was owned by a breeder and was going to be euthanized because she wasn’t producing. A young military family rescued her and gave her a happy home for the past few years. However, as often happens in military life, another base transfer left the owners with few options for what to do with their little cairn. So they contacted Col. Potter to see if we could take her and find her the kind of home and life she deserves. Thanks to Kathy and Barney, she was delivered to CP safely and got a bath, haircut and nail trim.

Honey Bun is 8 years young and ready to start her new adventure!

Welcome little girl!

Elroy joins the CP family!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

This extremely CUTE, loving, sweet, shy, little, 8 year old, cairn boy is looking for a little stability. From what we know, he’s had at least 3 homes and for a variety of reasons (none of which were his fault) couldn’t stay in any of them. He’s been with his most recent family for about 2 years, but because of a change in family circumstances needed to move yet again. Col. Potter came to his rescue and promises to find him the perfect home where he will be loved and never have to pack his bags again.

Special thanks to the transport volunteers who literally went the extra mile to get him to his foster home. The three drivers drove a total of 1350 miles! Extra special kudos to Kirk J for driving over half of those miles AND keeping little Elroy overnight so they could get an early start on their day-long journey.

Welcome little Elroy!

Welcome Rex Lee

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Rex Lee found himself surrendered to a small country shelter. He had little to no chance of adoption from this shelter at 8 years old, and only a short time frame to find a new home given the overcrowding and new arrivals every day.

Luckily for Rex Lee, a small group of shelter volunteers works diligently to get all 'unadoptable' dogs out to rescue whenever possible. They contacted Col. Potter, helped arrange boarding, vetting and transport for him, and worked closely with Intakes until he was moved to his foster home. Without their help, CP saying YES, CP volunteers willing to meet his transport, and a foster home stepping up, Rex Lee would have never had a chance. It really does take a village!

He is described as friendly and sweet, well-adjusted and knows simple commands (sit, stay, etc.). He's very energetic and spry. He is affectionate, and likes to sit on laps! Likes both men and women, also gets along well with other dogs.

Welcome Rex Lee!

Introducing Bucky!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Col. Potter welcomes Bucky, a sweet 8 year old wheaten cairn boy. He was surrendered to a vet who contacted another rescue for help. That rescue referred the vet to Col. Potter. We have worked quite a bit together the past, so they knew the level of care we provide and hoped that we could help Bucky.

Bucky is reported to be very sweet and friendly, loving to follow his people around. He is heading to his foster home tomorrow, as long as the weather cooperates! He is going to make an adoptive family very happy!

Welcome, Bucky!

Knox joins CP!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Knox is an 8 year old, 15lb cairn whose owner died a year ago. Her husband tried to keep Knox, but he worked long hours and did not have enough time for Knox. Col. Potter was called and a foster home was found.

Knox is good with other dogs, children, cats and is housebroken.

Please give this handsome man a warm CP welcome!

Jester rescued by Col. Potter

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Jester is an 8 year old stray that came into a Midwest shelter. When his time was up CP was called to take him in.

This little guy is a tad under weight as he weighs only 14lbs. It was discovered he was in need of some long overdue dentistry. Poor little guy, wants to eat, but he just hurts! Jester will receive all the vetting he needs and be on his way to his foster home soon!

Let’s all give a big CP welcome to Jester.

Welcome Besa into CP's protecting arms

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

The land of Toto has brought us a special little brindle girl today. Her owner found herself in a situation where she could no longer care for her girl properly and thus made the hard decision to give her up to another family. Besa is an Albanian Islamic word for a custom of protection of others. Col. Potter will protect and care for this girl until her new forever family can be found.

Besa is a very sweet girl who has excellent manners and was obviously raised in a very loving home. This girl wont last long she will be a great addition to a new family. Please welcome Besa into CP's family!

Welcome Kiera to Col. Potter!!

Written by CP Intakes Coordinator

Cairns can be cute, cuddly, affectionate and fun little dogs. Just like people, some of these traits are passed down through generations. Little Miss Kiera has been a mama to some of the nicest and sweetest cairns who inherited her genes. Her gentle disposition and sweet personality shines through on a cloudy day. She was part of a breeding pair and when Kiera gave up the life of being a cairn mama a few years ago, she remained with the breeder. She did not come from a puppy mill but was part of a small breeder operation.

She's been a wife and mother. She is now looking forward to the single life! No more puppies or raising kids for her. She can't wait to live the life she's heard about from other retired working girls. Kiera is 8 years old, a cute red head weighing in at 17 pounds, just right for her build. She passed her vet visit today with flying colors and also charmed the vet with her winning ways!

Kiera has a nice full coat and a jaunty little walk. When she walks away from you with her tail held high, strutting her stuff, she looks like she has little bloomers on which has earned her the nickname of Miss Fancy Pants! This little lady is a mellow, sweet cairn with a gleam in her eye! Kiera is looking forward to learning about being a cairn princess and finding her very own forever home! Please welcome Kiera!

Once Upon a Time, there was a sweet cairn princess named Babs...

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

When Babs was 6 months old she found her happily ever after family, or so she thought. For five glorious years Babs was her mommy and daddy's sweet baby and 'only child'. She was doted on and pampered like a princess.

Then one day her mommy and daddy brought home a new bundle of joy all wrapped in blankets. Suddenly that devoted attention that she was use to diminished and Babs was perplexed by this. Over the next couple ofyears another baby was added to the family and then play dates soon followed.

Babs just couldn't adjust to all the activity so that left her to be crated when other children were around. Her mom and dad wanted more for her than they could offer and knew that she did not deserve to spend so much time in her crate. They wanted her to be happy and loved like she once was.

They made the heavy decision to contact Col Potter. Babs now begins a new chapter in her life. She is a little confused by the changes that have happened right now but there is a special family out there just waiting for her. So, please say hello to Babs!!! This sweet thing is 8 years old, spayed and housetrained and knows many commands. Many thanks to Kerry B. for volunteering her time to help bring her into CP!!

Welcome Gumdrop!

Written by a CP Intakes Coordinator

Last week Intakes was contacted by a breeder asking for help placing one of her girls. We've worked with this breeder before, and she speaks highly of the care Col Potter takes when placing cairns. She says it is the only way she can part with her dogs, knowing they will have a wonderful retirement.

Gumdrop is now a CP kid! She is eight years old, and very sweet, just like the candy she is named after. The vet staff are enjoying her, and say she is a happy girl. She is having her spay today, and will be heading to Canada for fostering this weekend.

Thanks to every CP volunteer who works hard so that Gumdrop and kids like her can have a wonderful forever!

Welcome, Gumdrop!
