And Noooowww.....Here's CP's BIG BOY BERT!

Dictated by Col. Potter's Foster Bert to his foster mom

Derew Col Potter Fambly,

My name is Big Boy Bert! My foster mama's picked me up anna took me to her house da day after CRAP. Da first day, when mama came home, she wuz reddy to call Da Big Mama Sandy T. She sed it looked like I'd used a fire hoze in my xpen. :-) She said I wuz gonna need a bellyband, fast! She eben measured around my (ahem) YOU KNOW WHAT!

So da next day I wuz a model gentleman. It turns out dat dis izn't jes anudder vet place dat I can pee all ober. Dis is a real home, like da one I had before and you don't pee in your real home! (I figured dat out when mama put da bellyband onna me. :-)

So I dug deep down and bemembered what it wuz like to lib in a home and I been berry berry good since then. I keep my crate and xpen dry ALL da time.. When I go outside to go potty, I do my business and den come to da door to come in. I LUBS riding in da car! When mama took me to da vet, I took one look at da car anna I sed, "YeeHaw!" I jumped into da front see like I owned da place. Mama put my seatbelt on so I could see out. Dee only ting was dat da last car I rode in wuzn't a minivan. So when I tried to put my feet onna dash and see out da front window, I missed. :-p

I also likes da fambly room. Did you know dey habs a TOYBOX atta dis foster home??? WooEEEE! As soon as I laid my eyes on it, I hurried ober to check it out. (Dey got some SWEET toys here, folks!) I'm still kinda nerbous, so I DID jump onna da couch anna da fireplace hearth, but I didn't mean to. I fink I need to pwactice not jumping onna da furniture. I nebber had DAT rule before!

Mama says to tell you dat I got a cute face anna da brindling (whats dat anyway?) makes me always look likes I gots a dirty face. Anna I talk a LOT. I say, "Mumph, Mumph, Mumph.......Mumph, Mumph, Mumph" when I'm feeling friendly and "Mmmmmmmmm" when I gots to go potty and mama's not getting to da door fast enough.

I hasn't gots to meet de odder kids in da house yet. I had kennel cough when I gots here, so da vet sed I couldn't meet dem for at leest TWO weeks! I'm taking medicine (in cheeeeze - YUM) anna restin up. So I gots a liddle ober a week left before I can meet eberybuddy, iffen da vet sez it's ok. So in da mean time, I'm practicing up on sum new skills. I alreddy figgured out how to move my linoleeeum anna expen ober to da door so I can be reddy when mama cums. I bring my bed ober too, so I can be comferble while I'm waitin.

So stay tuned for da furder abentures ob BIG BOY BERT! Commin soon to a CRM near you! (As soon as dey let me outta my bedroom!)

PLEASE JOIN THE ANIMAL SHELTER CHALLENGE - VOTE DAILY AND HELP CP WIN FUNDS!!

Written by a CP Volunteer

In these weak economic times, when money becomes short, there are cairns out there who still need help. To help them, Col Potter Cairn Rescue Network needs help, too. In our quest to save as many cairns as we can, our organization feels the strain of the weak dollar and economy just like everyone else. When this happens, other means of funding must be explored more vigorously.

One way we can help--that doesn't have anything but a little time on the computer involved--is by voting everyday in the Animal Rescue Site’s Shelter Challenge contest. When we vote, we not only help Col. Potter gain a higher ranking, which may mean a "reward" of money from $1,000 weekly to $100,0000 as the overall high vote getter, but we can also click on the main web site and give .6 bowls of dog food to needy dogs. All of this is FREE and entails just spending a small amount of our time daily.

We were part of Col Potter before there was a Cairn Rescue Mentoring group. It was just a "list serve" as I recall, in the late 1990s formed by CP's founder. Since then, we have grown into an organization unparalleled in our accomplishments and devotion to helping the cairn terrier. But, in order to maintain that high standard and vision, we, quite frankly, need your help. It's just a very short time on the computer we're asking from everyone…not money.

Please help Col. Potter by voting in the Shelter Challenge Contest. Please enter Ohio for the state and Medina for the city. Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network-GL is the selection. Thank you for your assistance.

We're in the top 100, finally. Yesterday, we were ranked #96 overall and still come in #5 in the state. We actually have made significant progress over the last few weeks and should be proud of our efforts. We're that much closer to "earning" the money needed to help our cairns.

We have an address at the bottom of our personal emails that says "God has a special place in heaven for those who take care of his creatures." If you've already reserved your place in Heaven by caring for God’s creatures, make sure you go for a 50 yard line seating and get out of the end zone. Vote, and vote often.

Thanks to everyone who votes to help fund the continuing efforts of this outstanding organization.

Col. Potter had a booth at The Pet Extravaganza -Sarasota/Bradenton on Saturday 10/17

Free Samples

We had a great time hosting a Col. Potter booth at this huge dog event on Saturday at the convention center. I would guess attendance was 400-500. It was great to have help from several other Col. Potter friends. Kathy T and her friend Shondra drove about 100 miles to get here. Kathy is a Matchmaker and adopted two of Karin M’s fosters (Teacher and Fillipa), now Nealie and Kipper; Elaine C adopted my foster Pizzelle (now Zellie); and Marge & Ky who adopted Ruth Houser’s Skelly. Marge and Ky brought along a friend’s cairn (who they were dog sitting - Jimmy). All 3 dogs were great ambassadors for the cairn breed and drew a lot of attention to our booth.

There were 150-175 booths, including several other rescue groups. Most of the other rescues were very large dogs – Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Bull Mastiffs, Great Pyrennes, Greyhounds, Siberian Huskies, American Bulldogs. Almost every premium dog food company had booths here today and most were giving out free samples.

We had a lot of visitors stop by and took away informational brochures and Col. Potter business cards. There was also a Sarasota Veterinarian who is going to post our organization's information on his website.

Kayla and Sadie made the paper Saturday !!!!!!!!!!!

Contributed by Col. Potter Volunteer Lynne S., Minnesota

We are happy to share the pride of our volunteer who had her Halloween themed photo of her cairns published in the paper on Saturday. She wants everyone to know that they are former commercial breeder mamas who just love their second chance! Here is the photo that was selected and below is an image of the paper.

What's One More? Welcome Nightcap!

Written by CP's VP of Intakes

You all remember our 26 furkids - the Cheers to Col. Potter group - who reached freedom two weeks ago with the help of some special people from one of our wonderful vets. Well, when I got the call there was a little girl in the same area that was being offered her chance at freedom, they found room for one more at the vet clinic. Even though she's not part of the Cheers to Col. Potter Kids, she's been bunking with them and the vet staff thought she was a fitting ending, a finale to our Cheers and should have a name to match. So, they came up with Nightcap, the last one ... well at least for a little while.

Nightcap is a beautiful little girl estimated to be 2 years old. She's a red wheaten who is very shy and frightened, but I know with lots of love and patience in her foster home, she will soon be showing that she is a true Cairn.

And so, here's to Nightcap who made it #27 that our wonderful vet is helping us with this month ... CHEERS and WELCOME!

Welcome Jenna to CP!

Written by CP Intakes Team Coordinator

CP has a new girl! Two year old Jenna- loves to play, have her belly scratched and dig. She was sold as a 'lap dog' who would cuddle by her owner.

Well, you and I know that a lap cairn is a VERY rare, hardly seen thing- and Jenna did not fit that bill. So she joined CP so that she can find a family looking for feisty, active, typical cairn girl. Welcome Jenna!

Mojito and Singapore Sling from The Cheers to Col. Potter Group have arrived at their foster home

Written by their new foster Mom and foster fursiblings

Mojito

Singapore Sling

Fosters Mojito and Singapore Sling are here and I think "Girls Gone Wild" about sums it up. They are sisters and two years old. They are both attention starved and sweet, but VERY effervescent. They have a lot of pent up energy.

Mojito is the dominant of the two girls and poor Singapore, gives in to her demands.

Chloe and Zeus are staying away from their ex-pen for now as the energy level is a little too high for them . A little Homeopet Anxiety Relief and the house is quiet again. More to come as they settle in.

and
Zeus (dose gurls is crazee)

There's No Place like home - does your home need a cairn?

As, Dorothy, in the Wizard of Oz kept saying "There is no place like home", There is no place like home".

Well, these kids cannot wear ruby red slippers and they are not able to`click' their heels to make this wish come true. But we humans can.

Some of these cairns, have been living a life of a very bad dream, they have been caught up in that nasty old twister that took Dorothy and Toto away and they are wishing to find that wonderful forever home that just lies over the rainbow for them. Others have been pulled from a loving home that they have always known, but their past family could not continue to give them the love and housing due to many of our current economic situations. They, too, are looking for that new forever home, which waits at the end of the rainbow.

Where is this place called home? It could be at your house, your neighbor's house, a friend's house. We just need you to pass the word.

And what is a home to these kids? A home of love, food and shelter, a loving hand, a gentle touch. Just like when Dorothy awoke from her dream –her family was there to welcome her with a gentle touch and love.

That's the place called "No place like home".

Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network's purpose is to match cairns in need of homes with homes in need of cairns.

Please check our available cairns page to see if your perfect cairn is waiting for you already.

If you cannot adopt one of these loving kids, then possibly you could foster one, or become a guardian angel to one. Thank goodness Dorothy and Toto had their guardian angel, Glenda, the good witch, watching over them.

Everyone wants a home for the holidays and forever.

Let us "click" our heels.

Please welcome and watch the puppies Scorpion and Banshee from the Cheers to Col. Potter Group!

Written by Scorpion and Banshee's Foster Mom

Scorpion

Banshee

Scorpion and Banshee

These are two of the puppies from the Cheers to Colonel Potter group. These two puppies ARE from the same litter!! Amazing size difference isn't it! They are so different in personalities as well!! The boys have been here just a couple of days and are a HANDFUL!! Forgot how much laundry needs to be done when you have babies around. And the newspaper dirty pile keeps a growing.

Scorpion's just a little tike, not even two pounds!! He is active in that he is not lethargic, but not active like a 'normal' puppy his age. He really has no interest in toys, but will play some with his brother who easily kicks his little butt everytime. He is pretty vocal when he is wrestling with him. He is eating and gaining weight well but is very mellow, which as we all know, is not typical Cairn behavior!! He would really like to cuddle all the time. I have put him in his crate at times and YIKES! Hear him scream! He does have some attitude apparently so we are working on that little by little.

Big Boy Banshee on the other hand.... WOW, what a kid. His name fits him like a glove!! He is all energy and constantly moving. Especially that little tail of hi! s, always wagging. He is such a happy boy. And he does everything with GUSTO!! Talk about ATTITUDE!! This boy is going to be keeping someone else busy SOON - hopefully, for our sakes!!!! This kid is wearing me out!! He can be a little vocal in his crate as well.

What was really special is that their Blankie Auntie, Pam , helped to transport these babies to us and had their blankies all ready for them and was able to give the blankets to them herself! Just not in their crates so they didn't poop on them!!! Thank you Auntie Pam!!

They both love attention and give lots of kisses. Aren't they adorable!!!

Hope you all enjoy the pictures! As you can see Banshee Boy was hard to catch most of the time! The outdoor and indoor blanket pictures are from Thursday, all of the other pictures are from the night they arrived.

Please watch their video to "see them in action!"
