Geordi La Forge and Vana recently graced CP

Written by a CP intakes volunteer

Because of some unhappy events in their home life, these two little cairn siblings found themselves in need of a new home. And their daddy took special care to see that they were placed with the best possible people...meaning Col. Potter, of course.

Geordi La Forge is described as a sweet, somewhat shy, 11-year-old brindle gentleman.

Vana is a beautiful spirited 12-year-old wheaten lady.

These two distinguished "kids" are such a classy addition to our family--lets give them both a big CP Welcome!

Welcome Halyard!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Please give a warm CP welcome to our new gentleman, Halyard. This handsome wheaten cairn is 11 years old and needed a quieter life than the one he was living. Multiple young children in the home is not always the best match for a cairn of his distinguished standing. He needed a safe haven to live out his golden years, where his only concern would be dozing in the warm sun, chasing critters, and getting tummy rubs. Lucky for him, CP was able to meet his requirements!

Welcome, Halyard!

Introducing Megalyn!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Can you imagine the fear an 11 year old cairn felt when she was confiscated from her home by strangers, taken to a vet, shaved, poked and then back into a van and dropped off at a county animal control shelter? That’s exactly what happened to little Megalyn.

According to the shelter personnel, there was a small kitchen fire and when the fire department arrived and saw the condition of the home (feces everywhere, empty dog food bags, dirty water) and a terribly matted, filthy little dog, they contacted animal services. Someone at the shelter vet’s office cut away the mats so they could get a better assessment of her condition before taking her to the shelter. Fortunately, animal services contacted us asking if we could take her and thanks to Col Potter, we did. If we couldn’t have taken her, I doubt she would have made it out alive.

Megalyn arrived today at our vet for her spa week. She is still somewhat frightened and confused, but seems to have that wonderful cairn spirit. When she was let out of her travel crate, she looked around for a few minutes and then trotted off with the vet tech ready to begin her new life.

Welcome little girl! Your lovely coat will grow back and you’ll have plenty of good food, clean water and all the comforts of a loving home that you deserve.

Welcome Schatzi to the healing arms of CP!

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

This little girl almost didn’t make it out of the shelter in time--she was on the Put To Sleep list when Intakes was notified. But thanks to a couple of our volunteers for promptly springing into action (Michele and Monika) she’s a Col. Potter girl now.

Little Schatzi is 11 years old, 14 lbs. and just a little sweetheart. In fact Michele almost didn’t turn her over to Monika. In her own words – “She is to die for! She is beyond sweet! Almost had to keep her!”

She’s currently at the vet for evaluation, some surgery and the beginning treatment for her skin condition. It’s a real testament to her cairn spirit that despite the adversity she’s been through, she’s still a “little sweetheart”.

Schatzi could use some prayers and healing thoughts for her surgery, and hopefully will soon be heading to her foster home for some TLC and a bright future.

Welcome little one!

Welcome Pierce to CP

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Just imagine for the first 11 yrs of your life it was perfect. You had a wonderful mom who took care of you and you took care of her. You even watched out for your ornery little fur sister. Then one day mom was gone and you were put into boarding. No more cuddles. No more special walks. No more rides in the car.

This is the situation in which sweet boy Pierce found himself. Such a sad situation for such a fine looking black brindle boy with a wonderful personality!

Col. Potter not only takes in the breeding facility dogs who need to be rescued, but we also save the dogs needing a new home as a result of life changes that seem so unfair.

The A New Leash on Life raffle is one of the major fundraisers for CP. Without these funds CP wouldn't be able to help cairns in need like Pierce. Buying those squares helps the cairns and you get a chance to win some great prizes.

Please click on the link at the top of the page to check it out!

Introducing Lummi

Written by a CP Intakes volunteer

Lummi's owner had a reversal of fortune and was no longer able to care for this precious boy. On top of that, at 11 years old, he was in desperate need of a dental. Col. Potter was contacted and a foster home was found.

Lummi had a way to continue the meds he needs, and was given his dental. Last week his owner, heart broken, gave Lummi to CP.

Everyone give Lummi a big CP welcome and keep his former owner in your thoughts and prayers as this was such a selfless act of love for this cairn.

Please Welcome Col. Potter's Newest Puppy Mill Kids!

Written by a CP Intakes Volunteer

Intakes was contacted on Sunday by a woman who was rescuing three cairns from a puppymill. She could only take them if she could find a rescue group to accept them. The miller told her there were two females and one male, ages 9 and 11 YEARS old.

Col. Potter said yes!

Wednesday night, she met Kathy H. with the cairns. Kathy described these three kids as the biggest cairns she has ever seen, weighing in between 26 and 28 pounds! She doubts they have ever been groomed, and said they could only be described as yaks. They are friendly and vocal, letting Kathy and Barney know they wanted attention.

Each of these kids were named through the "Name a Mill Cairn" program, and I am proud to announce them! Please help me welcome:

Bubbles - Wheaton Female - friendly and vocal, dark tips on her ears and tail. She was named in honor of our own Sister Bubbles, Carol L. Kathy said her personality fits her name!

Shipwreck - Wheaton Male - friendly and sweet. He was named in honor of Joy W's beloved boy, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May.

Kenda - Wheaton Female - shyest of the bunch, on the quiet side. Her name means 'Child of clear, cool water'.

They will be ready to move to their foster homes the weekend of Sept 27. If you would like to foster one of these special kids and give them their first look at what life SHOULD be like, check out our Foster Facts!

If you would like to name a mill kid, you can find out more by visiting our website and clicking on the "Name a Mill Cairn" button on the home page. It’s a wonderful way to honor a loved one, and help a puppy mill survivor!

Welcome CP's B's!

Two furkids, well actually one kid and one senior, joined the CP family yesterday. They came from an auction in OK. We were alerted to this auction and when we checked the auction catalog, we knew we had to pull out all the stops to get a senior girl out of there and to safety and freedom. Then on Friday, they added a puppy to the catalog. We don't have a lot of volunteers in OK, but luckily Deb S. was helping to transport Nod and agreed to swing back by the auction to try to get the Cairns. Deb arrived just in time to get both the senior female and male puppy!

Glory Bee was born 12/30/97 - that's NOT a typo - 1997. She will be 11 years old and has spent her entire life as a breeder dog. She deserved a very special name and she has one. Glory Bee is named in honor and memory of Amy R.'s mother-in-law Gloria.

Bixby was born 2/23/08, so he's not even four months old. He's absolutely adorable!

Both Glory Bee and Bixby are being vetted and boarded this week and then will be ready for foster homes. If you are interested in fostering, check out our Foster Facts!

Please help us welcome Glory Bee and Bixby, our CP B's!!!
